25.01.2022 Did you know Brotherhood Books was Australia's very first non-profit online bookstore? From humble beginnings in 2009 when we were founded to make use of the many books donated to BSL Op Shops to the tens of thousands of books in our treasure-trove now we sure have come a long way! Of course, we couldn't have done it without the generosity of our donors, the passion and dedication of volunteers, and the ongoing support of our customers. From Brotherhood Books to you, thank you!

24.01.2022 This friendly face belongs to our Warehouse and Site Manager, Kevin. You can’t see his warm smile from behind the mask but if you’ve ever met him, you’ll know what a positive *force* he brings to our team. Speaking of The Force, here he is holding two of his favourite books, Ted Whitten’s autobiography and Star Wars. I enjoy reading autobiographies and also science fiction. When I was growing up, Ted Whitten was a legend of the VFL. I was involved in a footy club in my (ver...y) young days that Ted’s son played for, and Ted Senior would always come to watch him and always say hello to me, which was great for a young lad. And Star Wars? Well, I’m a huge fan. I first saw Star Wars when I was 15, a long time ago" Onya, Kevin! Our Brotherhood Books family are lucky to have you.

23.01.2022 Have we got a story for you! A super-rare first edition of Ian Fleming's 'The Man With The Golden Gun' featuring an embossed golden gun on the cover was donated to Brotherhood Books and recently auctioned in New York and sold for $6,500 USD. Of the 82,000 copies printed, fewer than 1,000 feature the golden emboss as pictured, making this donation a scarce find! The twelfth and final novel from the James Bond series was published after Fleming's death, and our Brother...hood Books manager Greg Simpson said, "This is by far the most valuable book we've come across." Proceeds from the auction will support community programs run by the Brotherhood of St Laurence that support people experiencing disadvantage and poverty. "Our book sorters are keeping an extra vigilant eye out for any more Golden Guns!" said Simpson. If you have books you'd like to donate, we're happy to take them! 10.01.2022 Meet Bob, one of our wonderful volunteers We thought it would be nice to introduce him to you so you could get a feel for the fantastic team we have here at Brotherhood Books! We played the classic 21 questions game with him so you could get to know him a bit better and we've added our favourite answers below. How incredible is number 5?!... 1 What's your favourite book of all time? One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Even though I last read it in the eighties, it still resonates with me as a powerful story of life and struggle and the images drawn still bounce in my memory. 2 If you could meet any author who would you choose? Franz Kafka. I feel he would have a wicked sense of humour. 3 What's your favourite thing about working at Brotherhood Books? Discovering and learning about authors and genres I have not been exposed to before. Also the camaraderie among the volunteers and staff. A genial workplace. 4 Which fictional character are you most like? Mole from Wind in the Willows. I just love tootling about in books. 5 What's the most interesting thing that has happened at work? Handling rare books such as the handwritten World War 1 diary of a stretcher bearer. An astonishing find.

07.01.2022 When Brotherhood Books' fan Emily* ordered "Ticky" by Stella Gibbons from our site, little did she know she'd be taking a step back in time. Upon unpacking the book, Emily discovered a signature dated February 1944 written by her partner's late mother! The book was clearly meant to find its way to Emily and we're so glad it did....
