Sand can even be sometimes be too hot to walk on. These can all cause painful burns to your pet's paw pads so if it is too hot for you to walk on in bare feet, it will be too hot for your pet!

21.01.2022 What are the tell tale signs that there might be a problem with your pet's ears? 1. Discharge - often smelly and may be black, white or yellow in colour 2. Hot and red ears 3. Shaking of the head or a head tilt... 4. Rubbing ears along the floor or furniture 5. Flicking of the ears (especially cats) If you notice any of the above, it's time for a check up asap as the sooner your pet's ears are treated, the better!

21.01.2022 Our pets are super susceptible to heatstroke and it can be fatal. Keep an eye out for excessive, exaggerated or noisy panting, drooling, weakness or collapse. If you think your pet might have heatstroke, bring your pet to us immediately (or seek emergency veterinary care). It's best to place your pet in front of the air conditioner or a fan while you are in the car. You can also place wet towels on hairless parts of the body.

20.01.2022 At this point in time, we are operating business as usual here. We’ve introduced strict infection control measures for all team members to ensure the safety of everyone: We have increased our disinfection measures within the clinic.... Anyone who has symptoms of a cold, or who has been in close contact with someone who has a case of COVID-19, will not be returning to work until they are healthy. We’ll do our best to look after you and your beloved pets safely during this time! Whilst your pets are not a known risk factor, public spaces are which is why we are implementing the below to protect our team and our clients. 1. Avoid attendance if you are unwell. 2. Only one healthy adult is permitted to accompany a pet to the clinic at any time. 3. Please wait outside or in your vehicle and call the clinic on 5445 2288 on your arrival so we can advise you when to enter. 4. There will be no visiting hours for hospitalised patients. 5. If you are picking up food or medication, please phone ahead so we can organise pick up options. 6. If you have a pet emergency during this time but are unwell, please call us to discuss the best way for us to ensure your pet receives the best care available. 7. Watch the below 7 simple steps to protect yourself and others from COVID-19: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8c_UJwLq8PI All the best everyone and take care.

19.01.2022 Regular check-ups for your pet (every 6-12 months) will help us pick up on any health changes early. Occasionally we may hear a heart murmur (abnormal blood flow) or a heart arrhythmia (irregular rhythm). These may be reason for us to perform more tests such as x-rays, ultrasound or an ECG. If we can detect a problem early, we can begin treatment and inevitably improve your pet's quality of life. Ask us for more information.

18.01.2022 If your pet is diagnosed with heart disease you should know that there are some great medications available to help improve the quality of their life and help them live longer. In some diseases (mostly left sided heart failure), you can also monitor your pet at home by learning to measure their sleeping respiratory rate (SRR). Ask us for more information.

17.01.2022 Did you know that an unhealthy mouth can lead to an unhealthy heart for your pet? Plaque and tartar that build up on the teeth lead to infection of the gums. Bacteria from this infection can travel in the blood stream around the body and can cause infection in the heart (known as endocarditis). The good news is that many of these problems can be reversed if dental disease is resolved and dental hygiene is improved. Ask us for a dental check up today.

14.01.2022 When it comes to heart disease, knowing what to watch out for can really make a difference to your pet’s life. If you can recognise the signs and seek medical help from us, treatment can begin earlier, your pet will feel better and in most cases live a longer life. Look out for laboured or fast breathing, an enlarged abdomen, weight loss or poor appetite. Dogs may also have a cough and have less energy on their walk. If you are worried about your pet you should phone us for advice asap.

13.01.2022 Don't forget that heartworm is spread by mosquitoes and it is the most dangerous of all the worms for our pets. Wherever there are mosquitoes, there is the risk of heartworm. Ask us about the best heartworm prevention for your pet.

13.01.2022 As the summer grasses start to dry off, pesky grass seeds will be out and about. These can cause havoc as their needle shaped tips can burrow under your pet's skin and cause a painful abscess. Keep an eye out for a lump or swelling (particularly between the toes), excessive licking, pain or bloody discharge from a small wound and get us to check your pet asap.

12.01.2022 If you think your pet has an ear problem you should arrange a check up with us ASAP. The longer you leave an ear infection, the more painful the ear becomes and the harder (and more expensive) it is to treat.
