14.01.2022 A new disease has been found in dogs in the Kimberley and Pilbara called ehrlichiosis. Dogs become infected when an infected brown dog tick bites them. These ti...cks are common in northern WA. How do I know if my dog has ehrlichiosis? The signs of ehrlichiosis vary. Some dogs dont look very sick while in severe cases dogs may: have a high temperature not move much be off their food lose weight have a runny eyes or nose have unusual bleeding or bruising. You can reduce the risk of your dogs getting sick and ehrlichiosis spreading by following the steps below: 1. Know the signs of ehrlichiosis 2. Contact a vet or 1800 675 888 if your dog has signs of ehrlichiosis. 3. Treat your dog for ticks regularly, as well as their bedding and the yard. 4. Here are some tips and hints about how to prepare and what is open to explore! * From ...the Great Northern Hwy turn off there is a 53km drive on a 4WD (only) track which takes 1-2hrs. Take the track slowly, dual axle caravans and trailers are not permitted, however can be left at Bungle Bungle Caravan Park 1km from the highway turnoff. * Upon arrival into the park, please stop at the Visitor Information Centre for Park updates and information, brochures and campground maps. This is where self-registration is required. Park entry and camping fees apply and is cash only. No EFTPOS facilities available. * Head north to walk the Mini Palms trail and see the spectacular Echidna Chasm. * Set up Camp at Kurrajong Campground and visit Kungkalanayi Lookout for sunset before settling in for the night. *Travel to the southern end of the park to camp at Walardi Campground. * Experience a short walk to Cathedral Gorge and The Domes Loop Trail. * Whipsnake Gorge Trail offers a 10km return walk into the gorge leading to a shaded amphitheatre with rock figs, ferns and mosses. * Piccaninny Gorge overnight hike is currently closed for safety reasons * If the Visitor Information Centre is not open, please follow self-registration instructions so we can account for all visitors to the park. * Enjoy the fresh air, adventure and beauty of this special place.
