24.01.2022 Nearly 30 years ago, Australians made a decision to start implementing anti-vilification laws. They now exist federally, in every state, and in the ACT. But unl...ike many countries around the world, the focus here is on civil laws. Although many states have criminal laws prohibiting serious vilification (such as NSW and Queensland), there are no criminal hate speech laws at the federal level. In practice, the vast majority of vilification complaints in Australia are dealt with under the civil law. See more

24.01.2022 I never imagined that I would run a trial from my office due to COVID. It was a success but I’m hoping to return to the court room next year !

23.01.2022 This significant change to our legal system is most welcomed - self represented litigants who are also domestic violence offenders can no longer be allowed to cross exam their victims on family court proceedings, which ultimately causes their victim much more trauma.

23.01.2022 A Happy New Year to all our client's and friends. Thank you for your continued support . We have reopened for the year! Wishing you a successful 2020.

23.01.2022 The trials and tribulations of a criminal Barrister! In my first few years as a barrister, I realised that representing those charged with a criminal offence meant that I was more than just a mouthpiece for my clients case. I needed to be a psychiatrist, a counsellor, a social worker, a mother, and many other things besides, none of which had appeared on the pages of my law books.

22.01.2022 We think one Court to deal with Family Law matters is a sensible move !

17.01.2022 Family law matters are never straight forward in todays modern society. In this case the High Court said that the Family Law Courts pursuant to the Family Law Act Act has the power to made orders regarding taxation debts and to order the commissioner to substitute the husband for the wife in relation to a debt owed to the Commonwealth. However, the court also said that such an order should only be made if it is "just and equitable to do so" and if its likely that the debt would be paid. If you would like to discuss your family law matters please contact one of our friendly Solicitors at Calabrese Lawyers.

17.01.2022 Interesting article. The court reaffirms that Prenuptial Agreements will be overturned in circumstances which are unjust, unfair and unconscionable. If you require legal advice on your family law situation contact one of our friendly lawyers.
