My name is John Henderson, the owner of Caloundra Surf School (which has the Council permits to conduct lessons at Happy Valley, Dicky Beach and Currimundi). I am thrilled to have been invited to join Caloundra Surfing Mums! Thank you! ... And I’m delighted to offer my support and help to all at Caloundra Surfing Mums. Surfing Mums recommends that all beginners should have a few lessons from qualified instructors, before actively surfing with the group. As an experienced, qualified surf coach and the owner of a Surfing Australia affiliated surf school, I’d be pleased to offer my services, to help new members get a solid start to their surfing journey. So, I’d be pleased to offer a 50% discount for lessons to all members of Caloundra Surfing Mums! So a 90 min group lesson is reduced to $25 (usually $50). This offer is available to both new members who want to learn the basics, and to existing members who want to improve their skills. I’ve been a professional surf coach for over 20 years, and have all the necessary qualifications including a Level 1 coaching certificate from Surfing Australia, a Blue Card to work with children, and certificates in Child Protection, First Aid, Surf Rescue and Advanced Resuscitation. All my coaches also possess all these qualifications. Caloundra Surf School is an affiliated surf school with Surfing Queensland & Surfing Australia (our official, national industry organisation), and has a $20m public liability insurance coverage (as does Caloundra Surfing Mums). Learning to surf is a fun, safe and healthy activity, undertaken in the beautiful clean ocean around Caloundra. It’s a wonderful, constructive activity that has positive benefits for promoting a healthy mind, body and soul. I describe the surfing experience as fantastic salt water therapy. Over the years, I’ve taught surfing to thousands of people of all ages, shapes and sizes. But interestingly, most of my students are women. It’s always a good idea to get lessons to learn the right techniques from the beginning. And don't worry - most of my students have never surfed before! It’s Beach Access 256, and is about 300m south of Currimundi Lake. (Robe Street runs off Currimundi Road.) NOTE: The carpark can get busy on a nice day, so we might have to find a park on the street.
