25.01.2022 Kimberley Carnage. Just returned back into Darwin after 8 weeks straight in the mighty Western Australian Kimberley region. Here is a quick glimpse of some of the remaining soldiers that returned home. ... Untouched fishery that is home to big, angry fish! All of the guides got well and truly brought back to ground at times when you are looking at lures heading for the horizon or the depths behind unstoppable monsters. But we put the brakes on plenty! Stay tuned for trip report before we head off this afternoon to Arnhem Land and new grounds!

25.01.2022 COLD WEATHER, HOT FISHING!!! (End of season wrap up) Well, the stats are in, as are our lines for the 2017 run-off season, and what a year we have had on The Cannon so far! Our last couple of trips experienced some rather chilly NT weather, but this did nothing to slow the Big Barra from biting. ... Some fantastic new clients were lucky enough to enjoy their best charter in 15 years of guided Barra trips around Australia, and our repeat customers reminded themselves why they continue to choose us. This years stats are quite staggering, and this is put down, in part, to a very welcome wet season. Over our four boats, and eleven weeks of chartering over the 2017 run off, our clients landed a staggering 11,019 barramundi!!! That averages at (now bare with me here), 1001 Barra per charter, 167 Barra per day (for the group), or 20.86 Barra, per person, per day. Now I think that nearly any fisher-person would be happy with 20 Barra a day,not to mention the myriad of other species caught, including: Threadfin salmon Mangrove jack Golden snapper Black jewfish Spanish mackerel Long tail tuna Coral trout Queenfish Trevally Qld groper Blue salmon Tarpon And endless others Anyhow, those interested for 2018 should get in quick, as half of our run off season is already booked up! As for us, we have a small drinks break, then it's off to the majestic Kimberly for screaming drags and spectacular scenery. Stay tuned.

22.01.2022 Bring on the Build Up!!!

21.01.2022 Eggy's new venture up and running "Your Wurst Friend"

19.01.2022 TRIP REPORT: Another day another cricket-score catch of Barramundi. Just another standard trip for us on the Cannon, with huge numbers of barra and a vast array of hard pulling bluewater species. Our regular client Jeff Manson is no stranger to big barramundi, and managed to pull a ripper 102cm chromie following it up shortly after with a 94cm fish.... This was commonplace for all our clients, including some far travelling American boys had an absolute blast catching species they had never seen, or caught before on conventional baitcast tackle and on the fly. All our regularly visited river systems are looking great for oncoming trips, and still producing A LOT of fish! Dont be surprised if you see us posting some proper monster Barra in the weeks to come. Out again tomorrow for another two weeks with some regulars, as well as a surprise crew. STAY TUNED

18.01.2022 New website has gone live: www.cannoncharters.com.au

18.01.2022 A nice big bus on light spin tackle. Bring on the big GTs this year in the Kimberley, only weeks away!

16.01.2022 A quick, unedited clip of a nice little Berkeley river Barra from this years Kimberley trips... and my giant trevally!!!

15.01.2022 First trip of the year and a great start for the 2018 run off season. Father and sons caught a staggering number of 80cm+ Barra including two at $1.13 Back out for another two weeks today so stay tuned!

15.01.2022 And that's what $8000 of wine looks like. Part of one order, from 8 we have to find room for in the boat for our Kimberley trips. Not to mention the mountains of groceries, fresh produce, meat, water, soft drinks, and everything else that takes up room. But, it's a small amount of work, for a huge amount of fun to be had! Bring on Friday!

11.01.2022 KIMBERLEY GT's- An untouched fishery. Every year that we get to travel to the Kimberley, there is generally one fish that gets us (the guides) more excited than anything else, and that is when we get to chase BIG Giant trevally on top water. Anyone who knows about GT fishing is aware of just how physically demanding this style of fishing is, and it's not often we get clients that can, or want, to put themselves through the hard work that's involved. But, after three years wo...rking specific areas of the Kimberley Coast, we can safely say that there is a very real and untouched GT fishery that can rival a lot of places around Australia! We regularly tangle with fish in the 40-60lb range, and have had encounters with fish much, much larger! With most of the fishing taking place in less than 6m of water, any fish over 15kg will give you a good account for itself, and many are simply "unstoppable" without correct gear and angler ability. With only one week still available for our 2018 Kimberley charters (22-29/09/18), please express your interest now or get in quick to secure your chance to fish an untouched reef thug fishery! Check out our website: http://www.cannoncharters.com.au for more details.

11.01.2022 Trip Report: Well, its coming up to our final block of trips for the start of the year, and what a fantastic run-off season we have experienced. Fishing along our usual stretch of coastline at this time of year, temperature fluctuations are expected, both in the ambient air temp, and the water temperature. Half way though our first week in this past two week block, we experienced a significant drop in water temp, and with that came a significant change in the barras feeding b...ehaviour. While the numbers of barra were still there, for the first few days, it was imperative to change tactics when chasing these "shut down" fish. Downsizing lures, small plastics, vibes and utilizing our electronics all helped to keep our clients catching good numbers of fish, and therefore happy! After a few days of lower temps, the barra seemed to be adjusting and getting back into feeding mode, along with some fabulous threadfin salmon, and big Jacks. Strong, consistent offshore winds have hampered our offshore pelagic and reef fishing exploits, but we hope to change that during this next, final installment of Cannon Charters 2017 run-off season.

11.01.2022 KIMBERLEY SEASON 2017 WRAP UP. Our annual Kimberley season is always one that gets both our clients and us excited. It is a true adventure, with unlimited fishing opportunities and breathtaking scenery around every corner. This year, once again, did not disappoint. With a plethora of big game species caught each and every week, from metre barra and threadfin in the gorge country, to jacks everywhere from the back creeks to offshore reefs, and huge, hard pulling denizens of th...e deep out among the islands, shoals and reefs. Sailfish, monster mackerel, Bus sized GT's that continually proved to be a handful for nearly all of our clients, as well as tastier species such as Coral trout, Bluebone, red emperor, huge Golden snapper and cobia popping up sporadically. The Kimberley is a gem in the crown of the North of Australia, and it is going to be a long year before we get to travel back and see what we can tangle with next. Check out our website for your chance to join next years adventure! Below is a very small sample of some of the fish landed.

10.01.2022 Looking forward to the 2020 season!

09.01.2022 We have been busy getting the boat ready for this season! Excited to have our beloved MV Cannon back in the water and looking refreshed for our VIP's (Very Important Pirates). If you haven't booked already for 2020 there are only a few spots left for the year!

09.01.2022 Some tasty numbers from our last North Coast exploratory trip. Trout, Nannys and Red Emperor are always a welcome sight on the line!

06.01.2022 Well, as you have been informed, our stalwart chef, Eggy has moved on to other endeavours. But do not fret, our new chef Darius has already impressed the last two groups of guests, serving up sumptuous, delicious and eye catching meals. It seems he has happily accepted the challenge of filling Eggys boots, and is continuing the high standard that is always maintained on The Cannon!

04.01.2022 It's time to farewell our good mate and five star Cannon chef, Stephen "Eggy" Mulholland. He has single handedly dished up equisite, top shelf, restaurant quality meals for the past four years, and the time has come for him to move onto his own endeavours. He will be missed by many of our clients. We take our hats off to you mate, all the best!!!
