20.01.2022 Hi, Im Carissa! I left behind my own health blocks surrounding fertility and complications of a connective tissue disorder because I wanted better, and more from my life. I saw and lived how mainstream medicine didn’t have all the answers to help me fall pregnant or live a life diagnosed with a genetic disorder. ... Although it appeared I was already living healthy, I wanted to know more, I knew something had to change if I wanted change. I started eating food as medicine rather than by habit or for taste, and turned to some odd formulas, soups and concoctions for extra help. 15.01.2022 Bbq burgers on a plate. (No buns required.) Yum! Yum! The family was a bit confused not see buns, but loved all the flavours like a burger and agreed the buns werent needed. The juices, egg and cheese all ran together just like they should. Being a coeliac myself, and my boys being gluten free with the coeliac gene, takes a lot of the fun out of eating out. Not being able to order what you feel like everyone else, having the one or two options to choose from (and sometimes no...thing at all) and then the awkard conversations when you order, or with the kitchen and even with those in your company about how a speck of gluten triggers your autoimmune disease and can make the lining in your digestive tract diminish so you cannot abosorb the vital nutrients to you survive and thrive ... and yes it is actually important. It can be not fun at all and ... exhausting. So pretty much everything we end up eating comes from my kitchen. The upside is.. we know what is put into everything we put in our mouth, and my boys love to help and they learn about food as being our fuel as we go. These were homemade turkey mince burgers put into the food processor with canneloni beans, bean sprouts, teriyaki sauce, herbs, egg and a crust of gluten free bread. Also on the plate was rocket, spinach, a colesaw mix, grated beetroot, saurkraut, egg, goats cheese for the adults and cheddar for the boys, avocado, relish and mayo. www.carissamcallister.com.au

13.01.2022 Where do you get your lettuce or leafy greens from? I tottle off into the backyard with my scissors twice a week and come back with a colander of fresh, yummy mixed greens. I heard you then...I dont have time...I cant keep anything alive...Ive always wanted to...... Ive never been great at keeping things alive. But these are from only four plants in 2 kmart pots that my 7 year old has the unofficial job of watering. He doesnt mind watering them and I can see the pride on his face for his effort when he sets off to water them a couple of times a week. (Even though he still tears our hair out trying to unravel and ravel the hose everytime...another skill we are currently always working on.) And of course he knows technology time isnt allowed until youve done what you need to do for the day. The plants cost me $6 from bunnings and save me approximately $6 a week. Best of all they are fresh, in season and organic!! Ready to provide your body with nutrients and not to accumulate any unnecessary toxins we all are exposed to with modern day living. Add lettuce daily to your sandwiches, wraps, salads and juices. The large leaves are also a wrap themself to place your protein and additional salad into! 07.01.2022 I hate the taste of sauerkraut! My boys also hate sauerkraut!! But we all still eat sauerkraut...... Why? Sauerkraut a fermented food and a probiotic. Easy to add to a meal once a day and is one of the economic ways to increase the beneficial bacteria instead of purhasing probiotics. If your whole family needs probiotics this can add up to be quite expensive. One organic jar is around $10 and can last a month. Its also easy to make yourself for next to nothing. Sauerkraut is also rich in potassium and vitamins A, C and K. I have a small tablespoon a day and my boys have small teaspoon added to one of our meals, once a day and you can hardly notice its there. 07.01.2022 Today I did nothing! I brushed my teeth and drove the kids to school, one load of washing...but all in all I did nothing. Why? Why not? It's not in my nature and it is really hard for me to do nothing. But today, I needed it.... I sat with the battle in my body of my TPD, I walked on my dirty floors, I minded my past trauma that sits in my mind. I looked at my piled washing to be put away, I dreamt about where I want to be in the next 12 months, I rested my muscles which work way too hard for me to just be upright at times...and I did nothing. Oprah once said " A queen is not afraid to fail. Failure is another stepping stone to greatness". You will fail with your health at some point. Some people will help you, others will hinder you. You'll make mistakes like going through the drive through one more time, having that block of chocolate, relying on too many pharmaceuticals or downing that whole bottle of wine. You'll stuff up all the time in big and little ways. Accept it, don't fear it and you won't have the surprise or disappointment that follows. There is something you can do, you can plan for it and get back up again. You won't lose your health, until your time is up....either you win, or you will learn.
