19.01.2022 The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil. When the Soviet Union collapsed in 1990, Cuba's economy went into a tailspin. With imports of oil cut by more than half and food by 80 percent people were desperate. This film tells of the hardships and struggles as well as the community and creativity of the Cuban people during this difficult time. Cubans share how they transitioned from a highly mechanized, industrial agricultural system to one using organic methods of farming and local, urban gardens. It is an unusual look into the Cuban culture during this economic crisis, which they call "The Special Period."

09.01.2022 Turmoil and uncertainty seem to abound everywhere we look as people feel increasingly insecure about their futures and grieve the loss of faith in our crumbling institutions. But what if the current disruptions to our political, economic and social systems hold the potential for the emergence of an economy that can not only provide for the wellbeing of all people, but is centred on tackling the biggest ecological challenges that threaten our very existence? What would this regenerative economy look like and where is it emerging across the world? And what would it take to tackle the political dynamics in this country that continue to relegate so many positive initiatives to the margins?

09.01.2022 Such powerful words from Sonya Renee Taylor. We are being given the opportunity to stitch a new garment.

09.01.2022 HERES A GOOD IDEA: A COMMUNITY TRADING SYSTEM LETS Local Exchange and Trading System is a cashless, community-based trading system enabling people to excha...nge goods and services. THE SYSTEM LETS improves on the simple, one-to-one, equal value exchange of barter. It requires no reciprocal, direct exchange. Instead, goods and services are provided and the value recorded as a LETS credit. LETS credits can be redeemed by receiving LETS goods and services from another. Its a form of mutual credit. LETS started in Australia in the late 1980s and was catalysed by the permaculture design movement of the time, when it was taught in permaculture design courses and when people started local LETS initiatives. Later, it took on a life of its own. Now, LETS is one of the initiatives that makes up an alternative economic system presently in gestation within the dysfunctional body of the old. THE INTERVIEW The interview in the video was made by Annette Loudon from CES Community Exchange Australia a national community exchange system, and myself. It features Josie, a Sydney woman who is a trader in SydLETS, the metropolitan LETS system. She explains why she trades in LETS
