25.01.2022 New Critter Pic!! Well with the Wet just around the corner most people need to get stuck into clearing out their Gutters... But while your ripping out all the leaves and twigs be mindful of some of the beasties that love this environment and call it home.. From Roaches, Worms(yep worms can live in your gutters!), Ants and Spiders.. I came across one of my gentle favorites when I pulled a weed from the downpipe.. My Son kept him company till the job was done and we then put him back For some reason these guys always look happy and always put a smile on your face too..

24.01.2022 It still amazes me what some people have in their backyards!. Sitting having break and a bite to eat at work with this as a backdrop. Makes me realise how grateful we should be..

23.01.2022 A quick and easy way to transform a shaded or dry dead looking area around the house is to put in some pavers and chuck rock in around them. Easy spruce up Add some long planters or pots filled with green and it'll look awesome..

21.01.2022 Every now and then, when we are doing a clean up and removing lots of leaf litter we accidentally disturb Skink eggs.. Usually we find a place to put them, in this case we couldnt so we brought this lot of 15 eggs home. We put them in wet Sphagnum Moss in a container on top of my Son's Snake Enclosure for some heat.. Few days later they hatched ready to be released..

21.01.2022 In the past month or two our weather on the Sunny Coast has been on the dry side. So in saying that, our lawns are looking a little worse than normal, a few brown patches here and there is nothing out of the ordinary.. Unless you water your lawns during these dryer days they will die back a bit. This is how lawn copes as the soil drys, within a couple of weeks after some good wets the lawn will bounce back. You can still mow during these dry times to just take the tops off th...e seed heads and keep it looking even etc ,just remember to leave the mower set to a higher setting when doing so or your grass will take a lot longer to come good after the rains and you may even permanently damage it. Some people opt to give their lawns a good soak the day prior to a mow, this can also be a great buffer during dry spells. Just remember a bit of good care and your lawns will be be fine and green once more... See more

20.01.2022 My new Critter Pic for this month...Most people know them as a Legless Lizard, its a Three Toed Burrowing Skink. Not a true legless lizard as they do have legs..you can see his tiny legs if you look closely.. They live amongst the leaf litter and fallen branches. I come across these guys occasionally when cleaning up. Awesome little guys, great to see them in a healthy garden....

18.01.2022 With all this rain we've had over the past few weeks on the Sunshine Coast, Lawn Grubs, Cutworms, Armyworm and other Lawn eating pests, have gone into a breeding frenzy. These guys will turn your once green, lush lawn into a brown, dead looking dirt patch!!. Make sure your lawns are treated with a good grub kill product. Also remember to check for Lawn Grub Moth eggs on your eaves, outdoor ceilings and any structures that are in proximity to lawn. A quick brush with a broom will get rid of them

17.01.2022 Its been a while since I posted a Critter Pic.. Here's a new one. These little guys always put a smile on my face. The cheeky Willie Wagtail is a great addition to anyones Garden.. Contantly on the move catching small bugs and chatting away. They make a small cup shaped nest from cobwebs and feathers, they usually pair for life too. In Aboriginal Folklore they are seen as the bearer of bad news and some tribes also thought they could steal a person's secrets and report back to dead relatives if someone spoke badly of them... I just reckon they're a fearless Australian

16.01.2022 Well, first day of Winter is here. If you haven't started your lawn weed spray for Bindi its time to hit em for a couple of months. They have started germinating earlier this year so time to get cracking before they set seed and leave those sharp bombs in your lawn!! I love walking bare foot through a nice lawn in Summer, but Bindis in our feet or our Pooches Paws for that matter are a nasty suprise I hate... #caloundramowing #caloundragardenmaintenance #caloundralawncare

12.01.2022 Back into the swing of things and the weather is starting to warm up....gotta love the Sunny Coast for serving up some awesome days over the past couple of weeks.. As always, there's nothing better than working outdoors, every day is different.... lovin it!! Have been doing a bit of hedging and shaping for a few customers.. Sprucing up the garden prior to the onset of the warmer months...

11.01.2022 One of the things I enjoy about this Job is meeting all the crazy pets you guys have!!! From Dogs to Parrots. All your furry, feathered and scaly family members are awesome.. I have a few that love it when I visit and they always make my day... Like the cheeky bugger here that tries to round up the mower

11.01.2022 I knew I was being watched good to see these guys in the garden..

06.01.2022 To all my Customers both new and old, here's to a great 2018. Wishing you all a safe and happy New Year.

05.01.2022 Here's a close-up pic of Armyworm..and a video of them in ridiculous numbers..

05.01.2022 Yep, Critter Pic time.. Seems that the animals are telling us the weather us definitely turning warmer. Good old Blue Tounges are up and about.. This little one was spooked by the Mower and ran in front of me....grabbed him out of the line of fire and put him somewhere safer...These guys are great at keeping Snails down in your garden but because they are slower than most they fall victim to dogs and cats... If you have plenty of hiding spots in your garden all the better, great little beasties!!

05.01.2022 To all my Clients new and old, we here at Chips'n'Dips wish you a safe and happy Christmas and New Year...

04.01.2022 Ahhh, Critter Pic time.... Haven't done one for a while... This one is a little guy found in my own Garden. Its a tiny Feathertail Glider. These hang out during the day, snuggled up in large family groups in tree hollows to keep warm. Nocturnal by nature this guy found himself stuck between our sliding door and the screen door in the morning probably chasing insects attracted to our lights, they also eat Pollen, Nectar and Seeds. We kept him safe and calm for the rest of the day tucked in a sock in a shoebox.. There he fell asleep till we let him go when it got dark and it was safer for him to venture out and find his way home..

04.01.2022 Ok all. Its that time again... Time to hit the emerging Bindii. After all this rain on the Sunny Coast they have reared their little heads.. A good Lawn Weed and feed now before they start to set seed will knock them over and lessen the Spring and Summer "Pain" ...If you are unsure of what you're looking for, I have a couple of pics to show you.. The quicker you get on top of bindii the better the outcome..

03.01.2022 New Critter Pic is another Garden Friend. Its that morning and dusk songster the Butcher Bird. These guys that are related to Currawongs, love to follow behind the Mower snatching up Skinks, Roaches and especially those big Locusts... Usually hanging in family groups of 3 or more.. They do get a bad rap as they get their name from the fact that when food is plentiful, they will store the, bugs, lizards or other baby birds they catch, in a tree fork or a thorn/spiked branch high up out of other animals reach until it's needed, like a Butcher stores meat in a coolroom.. A great bird to have around your garden and I do love their morning chorus.. #critterpic #caloundramowing #australianbirds

02.01.2022 Awesome Weather here on the Sunshine Coast.. Loving it..! Great to see beautiful lawns. Just remember that as the weather cools and the grass slows its growth its the perfect time to give it a dose of Fertilizer just before the Dormant Winter phase.. So get cracking
