24.01.2022 Well, this doesn’t happen every day but it has absolutely made my day! The novel this chap has written is one of the most powerfully written novels I’ve read in a long time, and it was a pleasure to work on.



14.01.2022 In between editing a variety of novels over the last few months, I’ve managed to squeeze in a bit of reading for pleasure too! Fiction round-up: City of Crows, Chris Womersley: loved this historical novel set in 17th-century France. Really atmospheric with fantastical elements that really transport you to a different time and place. Excellently written and structured with the coincidence/superstition weaved in. The Tea Planter’s Wife, Dinah Jefferies: historical fiction of a ...more contemporary, lightweight style. An interesting and thought-provoking story, although I wasn’t quite captured by the writing. Lush descriptions of Ceylon though. Plainsong, Kent Haruf: my last year’s top read was Haruf’s Our Souls at Night (don’t say that out loud too quickly ), so I was super keen to read another from the late author. I love how Haruf plays with language to create such strong voices that you just hear so clearly in your head. This is the first in a trilogy and I really enjoyed the oh-so-realistic characters so now I’m off to get stuck into number two...

07.01.2022 I was sad to have to miss Sylvia’s book launch this evening, but I’m sure the book will be a great success. Definitely one of my favourite books of this year and a pleasure to work on. Congratulations, Sylvia!
