24.01.2022 Scottville State School visited the Coalface Experience at the Collinsville Workers Club on Tues 3rd June. The children were given a wonderful tour by Mr Doug Batchelor and Mr Brett Patteson (ex Miners) about Collinsville's rich mining history at the Coalface Experience museum. The students were able to ask lots of questions and were also given a complimentary miners morning tea which was supplied and donated to the children by the Collinsville Workers Club. The children then went to the Miners Statue to pay homage to the 27 miners who have lost their lives in mining in the district. If you'd like to organise a tour of the Coalface Experience you can contact the Workers Club: 4785 5452

23.01.2022 The Coalface Experience committee is interested in performing maintenance works on the graves of the seven miners who were killed in the 1954 disaster at the State Mine. We envisage the work entailing fixing any subsidence, paintwork and plaque cleaning. No changes would be effected to the fixtures themselves or the plaques. All costs involved in the maintenance works would be taken care of by the Coalface Experience. If any family members have concerns or queries regardin...g the proposed works we would welcome your input and encourage you to call Brett Murphy on 0418 556 560 to discuss in further detail. Thank you Coalface Experience Committee

23.01.2022 The Coalface Experience is currently planning a new display featuring the 'Last Shift' photos we have collected. As there have been several mine closures in Collinsville since coal mining began in the 1920s, we will mention all, culminating in the most recent closure in 2013. Do you have any photos from any of the mine closures in Collinsville that you would like to share? If so, you can email them to [email protected] or drop into the Collinsville Connect Telecentre so we can have them scanned. Thanks!

22.01.2022 Tomorrow, 13th October at 5:20pm we will be commemorating the lives of miners lost in Collinsville coal mines. Be a part of this online event when miners’ family, friends and colleagues unite and remember as a community online.... https://vimeo.com/event/342271

22.01.2022 After several months in development, we are now proud to announce that the Coalface Experience Audio Tour App is now feely available through the Apple App Store and Google Play store. The App is primarily designed to offer visitors to the Coalface Experience an opportunity to listen to stories about various displays in the museum via their smart phones. This technology replaces the rather outdated Dataton Pickup units previously used to deliver the audio experience. The free App can also be used away from the Coalface Experience, and we encourage everyone to download the App to their phones to share with family and friends. You can find the app by heading to your phone’s app store and searching for the Coalface Experience, or by scanning the QR code at the Workers Club.

18.01.2022 On the 13th of October every year, Collinsville commemorates the lives of miners lost in the Collinsville coal mines. This day marks the anniversary of Collinsville’s worst mining disaster where, in 1954, 7 miners lost their lives in a gas explosion at Collinsville. I am sure you can appreciate that with the ever-changing restrictions, rules and regulations around COVID this year it has been difficult to plan any length of time into the future. Because of this the committee ...has made the tough decision to have the service professionally streamed online this year so everyone, no matter where you are, can participate in this important event - without any public health risk. COVID-19 will not stop us from honouring those who have been lost. For those who are not sure how to live stream or do not have the technology, the service will be live streamed to all TV’s in the Collinsville Workers Club. All are welcome to watch the service from inside the Workers Club. We will advise more details on how to stream closer to the date. If you would like a wreath laid on your behalf you may drop it in to the Workers Club no later than 12pm on the 13th of October clearly labelled or you can order from Bowen Dial A Florist or Floral Notes in Bowen and have them delivered directly to the Workers Club. Be a part of this historical event when miners’ family, friends and colleagues can unite and remember as a community online. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the Workers Club on 07 4785 5452.

04.01.2022 Did you know Gold was discovered around the Collinsville district by Richard Daintree around the same time he examined the coal seams in the Bowen River area. Mt Wyatt was the first official gold mine in the area, opening in January, 1867. In 1883 Sunbeam mine opened, producing gold and silver. Between the years of 1883 and 1934, Sunbeam produced 21 tonnes of silver. Several other gold and mineral deposits are known around the district and there is still alluvial gold found there today. The old workings of the mines are still visible as you drive past.
