25.01.2022 Viz and cray report. Update. Vizibilty yesterday was 5 metres in 6 metres off the hutts cray bag outs all reds. Peppi beach 15 metre viz but no crays to be found. The shallower you can get in with Viz the better you will do. The 30 metre mark had only 8 metres viz two days ago improving to 15 metres yesterday. Ground swell is dissapearing and today should be double again and back to hollywood tomorrow. Crays are definately in shallow.

25.01.2022 Taking abalone illegally off the reefs at Iluka Beach in Perths northern suburbs has led to hefty fines for four men, who will now have to shell out more than ...$40,000 in fines, sending a significant message on the consequences of fishing for abalone out of season. The men were apprehended by DPIRD officers when they returned to their vehicle in January last year, and were found to have a sports bag which contained 335 shucked Roes abalone. The bag, their fishing equipment, mobile phones and abalone were all seized on the day. The abalone were also shucked within 200 metres of the high water mark, an offence unless authorised by a managed fishery licence. Within that zone abalone should remain in their shells so that compliance officers can measure and check the size of the shell and make sure they are legal. To ensure their sustainability, no recreational fishing of abalone is allowed in WA at present, with the exception of the Southern Zone from Busselton Jetty to the South Australian border, which can continue until the Zone 3 season closes on 15 May. Make sure you familiarise yourself with the rules in the Abalone fishing guide. http://www.fish.wa.gov.au//licences/rec_licence_abalone.pdf See more

24.01.2022 One of our local boys has seen how bumper a cray season we are about to have!!! Diving mid week last week off Bunbury!

24.01.2022 Giant robber steals $6,000 thermal imaging monocular camera in daring night-time raid! My friend Annabel, whos been studying the Christmas Island Flying Fox fo...r her PhD, left the ruggedised camera filming bats overnight, firmly attached to a tripod and a huge battery. In the morning, the camera was gone. The tripod was knocked over, the battery deeply gouged with huge claw marks and the charge cable (that was physically screwed into the camera) had been completely mangled and ripped out! We spent hours searching the jungle all around the crime scene, but found nothing. We found plenty of very big robber crabs loitering around (aka coconut crabs, the worlds largest land-living invertebrate which can live about 80 years, have a leg-span of 1m and claws that match the pressure of a lions jaws), but none harbouring the camera. Judging from the claw marks and the distance it evidently dragged this chunky camera, it must have been huge!!! These robber crabs are an impressive force and stand their ground even against vehicles - drivers here often have to get out and physically push them off the road at night to drive past - and they actively hunt other crabs too, pouncing on them! But yes, if anyone sees one trying to sell a thermal camera, please let me know! Treat as eight-armed and dangerous. Bloody robbers. #OnlyOnChristmasIsland

24.01.2022 Ok viz and dive reports..... So wednesday great number quotas for most being caught in big groups in 5 metres or less of water to the south of Bunbury. Good number perhaps 30 percent of Southern Fighters as well. Interestingly like winning the lotto one good customer( u know who u r) caught a 187mm jumbo cray in less than 8 metres of water!!! Considering a jumbo looks big at 165mm on the head thats a big animal to be in so close. Vizibilty has dropped yesterday due to a big ground swell so divers will need to head further south today and perhaps avoid straight out the front of Bunbury. So south of the hutts or maybe North towards Binningup. Still only 25 percent whites so a few weeks yet to get a Christmas cray.............

23.01.2022 Now that we have finished the silly season and are moving into a nice normal pace here at the dive shop we want to take this time to clear up any confusion moving forward. Yes it is true after 21 amazing years we are closing this chapter of Coastal Water Dive down by September this year. We had intended to close down late last year but with covid and then two other dive stores closing we wanted to finish off one more year and keep divers in the water. What does this mean for... you. Well if you have gift vouchers they are vaild until September so come on in and stock up! We have students booked on dive courses up until winter arrives late May so if you want to dive with a Bunbury institution get in fast! It will also mean we will be having a massive end of financial year sale and selling off all hire gear and buying in extra stock to keep you all going for another year. Whats next for us ! No more weekend work and more quality family time. We will be moving from our current Albert road store and opening up a commercial dive centre focusing on Commercial diving and offering Airfills , nitrox fills tank testing and reg servicing to keep you all wet! Airfills on fill cards will still be current and will still be able to be used at our new store. A few sneaky snares n cray bashing gear Im sure will be still be avalaible as well. We look forward to seeing you all over the coming months and will keep you all posted through winter as to where we end up! 20.01.2022 Dolphin Survey Week 2021 We need your help. From Saturday 27 February to Friday 5 March, we would like to know the locations and behaviour of every dolphin in t...he Bunbury region, from Binningup in the North to Peppermint Grove Beach in the South, and everywhere in between. This includes sightings in the Leschenault Estuary, in the Inlet, the Collie and Preston rivers, and offshore. You can partake in the Survey on land or sea, from your boat, your home, a walking path, alone or as part of a group. Even if you don't see any dolphins we would like a survey form to know when you were looking and where you were. Knowing where the dolphins are not, is just as important as knowing where they are. All you will need is our Survey Kit, and, if possible, a camera or smartphone for a photo of the dorsal fin. (See attached example) We will be holding an information session at 6pm on February 23 rd, when you will receive your "Dolphin Dashboard Kit, learn the legal separation distances, learn some Dolphin Identifications and behaviours, and learn how to return the surveys and photos to us. RSVP's are essential. If you would like to be involved but are unable to attend please contact us. RSVP via Facebook event: https://fb.me/e/16odTSwvc Remember not to interfere with the dolphin's natural behaviours, and if you ever spot a dolphin or other marine animal in distress you can contact the Wildcare Helpline on (08) 9474 9055, the Dolphin Discovery Centre on (08) 9791 3088, or our Conservation Manager on 0407280020.

18.01.2022 Recfishwest is urging all WA fishers to take responsibility during the COVID-19 crisis and follow all the recommended precautions by the Government around socia...l distancing and non-essential travel between regions. Many in our community will want to fish for a much-needed break during these stressful times and for their health and well-being. But the Government was clear last night if: you can stay at home - stay at home, If you choose to fish you need to strictly follow Government guidance to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Find a secluded spot from which to fish - like the one pictured. You must maintain 1.5m of space (four square metres) between yourself and another person during non-essential activities. The 1.5m rule applies to boat and land-based fishing. It does not apply to members of your family or household. Fishers need to: Stay home where possible to minimise social interactions. Fish locally only, near where you live and limit your time away from home. Fish with your direct household members (no mates or extended family). Travel directly to and from your home to prevent any social interactions. Maintain spatial distancing of 1.5 metres from other people Fish alone, with family, or with household members only Do not congregate at land-based fishing locations, instead look for more secluded alternatives Stay away from popular man-made fishing structures such as jetties Do not go fishing if you are in quarantine If you are unwell, you must self-isolate, do not go fishing if self-isolating We can get through this together and on the other side fishing will have a huge part to play in the economic and social recovery of this great State of ours. Be safe - be responsible! More info here https://recfishwest.org.au//covid-19-crisis-be-safe-and-r/ Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development - DPIRDPeter Tinley AM

07.01.2022 For our Busselton crew Hi Guys n gals Torry at Coastal Water Dive in Bunbury here we are open 7 days a week now to try and maintain and fill the gap that dive shed has left at the moment. Its a sad state for a lot of businessess in this covid time and particularly for dive shops with 10 owners i personally know closing for many reasons. If you come to Bunbury for work and drop your cylanders in we will turn them over for you while you wait or while you are at work. Im servic...ing and tank testing in house generally overnight at the moment to get people ready for the season with lots of specials on our facebook page. I could potentially organise to come down and grab bulk cylanders in my trailer for filling from a central place and return them the next day.... Just throwing out some ideas? See more
