25.01.2022 HAPPINESS IS FREE. It is all around, hidden in the small things that surround us, but we don’t always notice. Even in the best of times, happiness can hide its face until we stop to look for it 'Where Happiness Hides' is a gift to the children of the world during social isolation for the duration of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, translated into multiple languages. Including Wiradyuri translated by Elaine Lomas (pictured with author Anthony Bertini). Available as a book now in Wiradyuri and English

25.01.2022 Ben Brooksby is a fifth-generation farmer from St Helens Plains in western Victoria. When he was younger, he struggled with anxiety and other mental health issues, as do so many others in rural communities. A simple social media post helped him to turn things around. After he shared a photo on Instagram showing himself naked in a truck full of lentils, he received a huge response, with other farmers wanting to share their own photos - and their stories. As the Naked Farmer mo...vement grew, Ben met people from all around the country who wanted to get naked for mental health. As they got their kits off, they also opened up about their struggles. This is a heartwarming, moving and candid collection of stories of the challenges our farmers are facing, and the way these communities are banding together in response. Proudly supporting the Royal Flying Doctors Mental Health Service See more

25.01.2022 To be very clear, this is not Harry Potter. The world is an entirely new invention with new characters and a mysterious myth about a fearsome monster called The Ickabog. It is set in Cornucopia, the happiest kingdom in the world, where everything is perfect. Adults tell tall tales about the mythical Ickabog to scare children into behaving. However, this myth starts to take on a life of its own "The Ickabog is a story about truth and the abuse of power. To forestall one obvious question: the idea came to me well over a decade ago, so it isn’t intended to be read as a response to anything that’s happening in the world right now. The themes are timeless and could apply to any era or any country." J K Rowling

21.01.2022 White Bird is a gorgeous graphic novel in the same genre of the best-selling Wonder where we learn the backstory of Julian (and in so-doing, grant some humanity back to this character from Wonder who was the bad guy in that story). Julian needs to do a report for school about his family and he asks his grandmother about her story. We then go back to Occupied France where she spent the war like Anne Frank in hiding. She falls in love with a polio victim who saves her life. It is a moving story using the image of a white bird as a metaphor for love and freedom. It is HIGHLY educational about the plight of Jews during WWII and the Holocaust. It is good that Julian shows himself to have a soul after all. Absolutely recommended.for +10 year olds.
