22.01.2022 Our friendly team at Compass would like to wish all our clients, associates and Facebook friends a wonderful Christmas and good health and happiness for 2020. Please see our after hours numbers below should you require assistance while our office is closed between the Christmas/New Year period.

22.01.2022 I heard it once said that we should attempt to learn a new word every day so with that in mind I found one that seemed relevant: NUMINOUS - which means to be both fearful and awed by what is before you. And from what I am seeing lately in regards to our weather nationally I can truly say I feel numinous.... We have fires burning millions of hectares of land, we have property and lives being lost. We have hailstorms that within seconds have caused millions of dollars worth of damage. I am fearful of what these events mean to peoples lives and how it impacts upon them but I am also in awe that Mother Nature can turn on a coin and have such an impact to so many.

16.01.2022 IMPORTANT TIME TO RETHINK YOUR INSURANCES ---------------------------------------------- If any of you were unaware, we seem to be spiralling uncontrollably towards a severe summer. Here we are in October and we have already seen:... OUT OF CONTROL FIRES 40 (NSW) and 30 (QLD) LOSS OF HOMES/PROPERTY 55 (NSW) and 30+ (QLD) DEATHS 2 (NSW) It may seem like a lifetime ago but it was only 5 years ago in January 2013 that we saw bushfires rip through the Tasman Peninsula destroying 203 houses. Experts say that this season could be worse. So outside of doing all the physical things needed such as clearing debris around your property, cleaning out your gutters, getting an emergency grab bag together etc., now is the time to review your insurance cover. ARE YOUR SUMS INSURED ADEQUATE? Do they represent the cost to have the building totally re-built in the event of a total loss and the contents replaced in total on a new for old basis? NOW IS THE TIME TO CONSIDER THIS because after a loss you do not have the opportunity to make changes to your coverage. 10 minutes now reviewing the current covers could save you more heartache than you could ever imagine. 04.01.2022 COVID-19 vs BUSINESS INSURANCE How much has our world changed in such a short period of time?! And realistically, I feel, more change is to follow. Understandably, we are fielding many calls from business owners wanting to know what happens with insurance if:... 1. There is an outbreak of COVID19 at your place of business 2. There is Govt instructions that a mass quarantine happen. Prior to answering I should point out that every insurance policy is different, but looking at the biggest ones in this country (QBE, Allianz, VERO, CGU, Zurich, etc) here is an overview of their cover. Under either of the two scenarios noted there is no cover under the "Property" section of the policy because there is no property damage. Under the "Business Interruption" section of the policy there is capacity to cover losses due to infectious diseases, however it specifically excludes highly pathogenic avian influenza or any diseases listed in the Quarantine Act of 1908 (now repealed and replaced with the Biosecurity Act of 2015) and in late January COVID-19 was listed. So in short, no, unfortunately there is no cover and outside of the insurance companies previously mentioned I am yet to find an insurer that will give this cover. As always we are happy to discuss further with either clients or non-clients. Ph: (03) 6234 2088 if you have any questions.
