15.01.2022 Hey, could everybody just share this post about Windows 7 please. We're getting an alarming number of people asking us for quotes for new computers this week wh...o when asked why they want one the response is a variant of, "Because mine only runs Windows 7". Just because your computer is on Windows 7 doesn't mean you HAVE to replace it or even upgrade it (depending on what you're using it for) and even if you DO have to upgrade, your Windows 7 computer is almost certainly quite capable of being upgraded to Windows 10. I know there have been (I've seen heaps of) advertising campaigns run through various channels to sell new machines to those of us who use Windows 7 still, but we must learn to question the motivation of the people behind advertisements. I understand of course that if all a retail outlet can do is sell new things, they aren't going to mention that the old one can often be upgraded, repaired, improved or just plain tolerated (with some awareness of the dangers). That's not why they're there. They just want sales. Simple sales without hassle for them. But automatic replacement is no stance for evolved humans to take, especially in light of the damage we've already done to the environment and climate by following this greed-driven sales feed. This is 2020 - surely a year for a clearer vision? Please, if you have Windows 7, take the time to contact a computer REPAIR person you trust (us if you don't have one) and just talk it through. Anyone good isn't going to charge you for a conversation. It will almost certainly save you many hundreds of dollars and stop yet another pointless waste of a good machine going into the ground. I'm not saying we don't want to make you a new thing if you want one (I love making new computers) but I don't want anyone thinking they HAVE to get a new one just because of a bunch of sales people lying to us all for their own ends.

02.01.2022 Malware vs. viruses: what's the difference? Malware is an umbrella term for any malicious software written specifically to infect and harm the host system or it...s user. A computer virus is just one type of malware. Just as all squares are rectangles (but not all rectangles are squares), all viruses are malware, but not all malware is a virus. Malware can harm any kind of deviceWindows PCs are the most popular target. A computer virus is designed to copy itself and spread to other devices as widely as possible, just as a biological virus infects its host, self-replicates, and spreads to new hosts. Computer viruses proliferate by infecting applications and email, and they can be transmitted by infected websites and email attachments. "The first malware in the 1970s were dubbed 'viruses.' The first antimalware programs published in the 1980s and 1990s were called 'antivirus,' because that was the primary problem at the time; many such tools today continue to use that nameeven though they protect against far more than viruses." That's true for Avast Free Antivirus, too! Protect against everything https://ava.st/3avovym Check out other kinds of malware https://ava.st/2sLpPMM
