24.01.2022 This past week, the Church celebrated great saints, most of whom were martyred. Among these were two Conventual Franciscan friars: Blessed Fr. Micha Tomaszek a...nd Fr. Zbigniew Strzakowski (martyred in Pariacoto, Peru, on August 9, 1991 and beatified on December 5, 2015). The week ended with the celebration of Saint Clare, disciple of St. Francis of Assisi and founder of the Poor Clares (the first woman in the history of the Church to write a Rule for women). Blessed Fr. Miguel and Fr. Zbigniew, pray for us! St. Clare of Assisi, pray for us!

23.01.2022 Recently at our Inter-Provincial Novitiate in Arroyo Grande, California, five men were invested with the Holy Habit of the Order of Friars Minor Conventual. They will spend this next 'year and a day' undergoing in-house classes on Franciscan life, spirituality, and history, as well as deepening their relationship with God and their brothers through a horarium of prayer, and ministry in and out of house. The outgoing Novices were farewelled, and each have now professed their Simple Vows in their home Provinces. Our St. Bonaventure Province warmly welcomes two new brothers, who will now undergo university studies.

15.01.2022 Friends, our Gospel today calls us to entrust our lives completely to God. How often the Bible compels us to meditate on the meaning of faith! We might say that... the Scriptures rest upon faith, and that they remain inspired at every turn by the spirit of faith. Paul Tillich said that faith is the most misunderstood word in the religious vocabulary, and I’ve always felt that he’s right about that. What is faith? Faith is an attitude of trust in the presence of God. Faith is openness to what God will reveal, do, and invite. It should be obvious that in dealing with the infinite, all-powerful person who is God, we are never in control. This is precisely what we see in the lives of the saints: in Mother Teresa moving into the worst slum in the world in an attitude of trust; in Francis of Assisi just abandoning everything and living for God; in Rose Hawthorne deciding to take cancer sufferers into her own home; in Antony leaving everything behind and going into the desert; in Maximilian Kolbe saying, I’m a Catholic priest; take me in his place. Milton de Jesus of the Custody of Our Lady of Coromoto (Venezuela), by Our Lady of the Angels Province friar and Bishop of Savannah, The Most Reverend Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv., at Saint Louis Roman Catholic Church, in Buffalo, NY. From our Immaculate Conception Custody in Brazil, the Most Rev. Elias Manning, OFM Conv. (Bishop Emeritus of Valença) also served as Bishop in Attendance. See more
