24.01.2022 There are calls for a consistent framework across government agencies in assisting traumatised people. Ensuring government services support people affected by trauma requires those agencies to be adequately staffed by well trained workers in secure jobs.

21.01.2022 It’s been a distressing week for so many women and workers. Today we’re standing in support of the CPSU - Community and Public Sector Union's campaign for the G...overnment to #AdoptThe55 recommendations of the Sex Discrimination Commissioners’ report into sexual harassment in workplaces. I want to make it very clear though. This isn’t just an issue that has suddenly appeared out of thin air. The Government has had this report for over a year and done nothing with it. Speak to any union organiser across the country. Chances are they have dealt with some form of sexual harassment or gendered violence with their members. It’s a national disgrace. So finding out that this has been happening at the highest levels of our society makes me angry and sad - but it does not surprise me. The issue has only been invisible because men in power want it to be. Voices have been suppressed. Women have been put down. Survivors silenced. But know this. When you’re in a union, you are never alone, and you’re never just one voice. We’ll continue our work in bringing this behaviour into the light, and we’ll always - and I mean always - stand with survivors.

21.01.2022 Today national secretary Steve Murphy was with delegates in Launceston. Power does not lie in the hands of union officials, but power is organised by workers ta...king collective action. We're support the CPSU's urgent call to adopt the 55 recommendations made in the report after the national inquiry into sexual harassment at work. Every woman has a right to be safe at work. Today it’s 12 months since the report was handed down. The Morrison Government has failed to implement one of the 55 recommendations. #AdoptThe55 #IWD2021

14.01.2022 We are supporting our union friends at the CPSU - Community and Public Sector Union in their campaign today calling on the Morrison Government to act on the Res...pect@WorkReport Women must be safe at work. The recent weeks have been distressing for many. We know sexual harassment and gendered violence are rife across all industries, and our current laws are failing to keep workers safe. Today marks one year since the release of the Sex Discrimination Commissioner’s Respect@Work Report into how we achieve safe and harassment-free workplaces. We call on the Morrison Government to act immediately to #AdoptThe55 recommendations of the Respect@Work Report. #AdoptThe55 Photos of The Services Union - Brisbane Office staff - solidarity!

04.01.2022 These past few weeks have been so hard, traumatic and infuriating, for women across the country. We saw Brittany Higgins stand up and tell her shocking, heartbr...eaking story. We watched the Prime Minister deny any prior knowledge of an alleged rape that happened just metres from his own office. And we were all left stunned as he had to be instructed by his wife to care about it. This week, we saw Australian of the Year and sexual assault survivor Grace Tame take the stage at the National Press Club a breathtaking, powerful speech excoriating the culture of silence and cover-ups that this Government perpetuates. And, just minutes afterwards, we watched as the top legal officer of the land refused to step aside and allow an independent investigation into an alleged historical rape. We know sexual harassment and gendered violence are rife across all industries, and our current laws are failing to keep workers safe. Despite this, today marks one year since the Government received the Sex Discrimination Commissioner’s report into sexual harassment at work, and the 55 recommendations it contains. One year of ignoring all the work that needs to be done, so urgently, to make our workplaces safe for everyone. So today, in the wake of these hard, infuriating, painful past few weeks, I’m joining with the CPSU - Community and Public Sector Union and union members across the country to once again call on the Government to immediately #AdoptThe55 recommendations. No more inaction, no more delays. #AdoptThe55. Now.

01.01.2022 "In reality, the story was far more complex, involving a public sector that has been turned inside out and in ways no one could have reasonably expected when the reform caravan started rolling down the hill."
