01.01.2022 Cairns projects share in arts funding Seven arts projects in the Cairns region will share in $61,328 in funding under Round One of Regional Arts Develop...ment Fund (RADF) 2019/20 grants. Among the successful projects is the creative development and presentation of electronic duo The Ironing Maidens serial piece called 'A Soap Opera'. This new show will premiere at Adelaide Fringe Festival and Tanks Arts Centre in Cairns in early 2020. Mayor Bob Manning said the latest round of funding will assist a broad array of creative projects from performing arts, film and dance to public art and cultural material conservation. Hundreds of local projects have over the years been assisted by RADF grants, which deliver positive outcomes for communities across the region, Cr Manning said. These successful projects represent a chance for people to engage with the vibrancy and depth of our arts community. The latest round of funding will deliver a range of creative opportunities to the community, including a suite of workshops delivering training in best practise in caring for heritage material, by conservator Melanie Sorenson. The grants will also assist UMI Arts in the creation of a DVD on the life of renowned artist, indigenous role model and wood carver Kel Williams.
