24.01.2022 We maxed out our credit card. You pay $30 a day just for parking, I had to ask family to help with bills, every time we would go, at least $700 just like for petrol, food, recites Courtney Ryder, PhD student at The George Institute for Global Health and CRE REACH trainee. These are just a few of the examples she provides of how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families are being impacted by healthcare costs for their child’s treatment. Known as out-of-pocket healthcare... expenditure (OOPHE), these costs are not covered by Medicare or government initiatives, and can include medications, transport, wages, and educational loss. OOPHE are very real and is a significant burden on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families. Courtney is currently recruiting parents of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children to assess the first OOPHE tool to capture this impact. If you think you can help or participate, please follow this link: https://is.gd/oophe1 Participants will receive a voucher for participating.
