24.01.2022 Down Under Rally has been putting in the hard yards and has not given up yet.

23.01.2022 Need a family project this summer? How about building one of these little cuties? BTW, being a member of Off Center Harbor is probably one of the best things you can do for your soul. OffCenterHarbor.com https://www.offcenterharbor.com/oonagh-sailing-dinghy-plan/

23.01.2022 Discover Boating Week continues ... Data shows that there are over 900,000 registered boats around Australia. If you add all the small sail and paddle craft that do not require registration, the estimate increases to close to 1.8 million craft that Aussies of all walks of life enjoy. ‘Old salts’ will tell you that owning the right boat increases your enjoyment on the water immensely. By nature, we tend to take an aspirational approach and look beyond our needs, however th...at is not always the best path for those looking to get into boating for the first time. Buying your first boat is exciting for all the family. As the skipper, knowing that you have the right boat goes a long way to ensure you enjoy the experience and that your time on the water is not hindered by having a vessel that does not suit your needs. Buying a boat is a very personal choice, so take your time and do your research. There are a lot of choices. Allow enough time to explore different types of boats and different brands within each category. This is often a big investment that will change your life. Begin by narrowing down your choices. Ask yourself the following questions: What do I want to do with the boat? Where do I want to go boating? Who is going with me? How many people should the boat carry? Will we be going offshore? If you are trailering, do you have a car that is capable of doing so? Overnighting? Entertaining? Fishing? Water skiing? How much am I willing to spend on boating? The answers to these questions will help guide your decisions. Narrow your choices to a short list of boat types or categories and make lists of features you require, features you would like, and features you want to avoid. Once you have narrowed down your category choices, the real fun begins. It’s time to go shopping. Remember, you are interviewing your dealer as well as searching for your perfect boat. You want to find the right boat-brand-dealer combination. Look for a Boating Industry Association (BIA) member. Ask similar questions to each dealer to compare ‘apples with apples’. You may not know the exact boat you want yet but you know what kind of experience and service you want to have, so don’t be afraid to ask the hard questions. The BIA has a handy web site: www.DiscoverBoating.com.au where you can start your journey. You will find topics such as Boat Types, Boat Buying Tips, New vs Used, Boat Finance, Cost of Boat Ownership and a simple Boat Buyers check list. People looking for more information about all forms of recreational boating are invited to visit DiscoverBoating.com.au or search for Discover Boating Australia on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube & Twitter.

22.01.2022 Boating without a boat in Australia has never been a problem for Aussies. The practice of boating has been long associated with the outdoor loving nature of our culture. Across our country, people of all ages and backgrounds have been drawn to the water for leisure and health. With the abundance of demand for the boating lifestyle, those wishing to get out on the water have opportunities to do so in many ways. Not having a boat has not been a problem for those new to the...Continue reading

18.01.2022 This is getting quite urgent and is the sort of outlier problem that templated rules cannot accommodate. So we need to press the people in charge (mostly this means the Qld government) to accept these people before real trouble starts. 18.01.2022 The first weekend in October, a long weekend in many parts of Australia, kicks off the summer boating season around Australia. While data shows that boating occurs all year round, it is the improving temperatures at the beginning of October that lures Aussies back onto the water in greater numbers and frequency. With more than 85 per cent of the population living within 50km of the coast, it is estimated that more than 20 per cent of all Australians engage in some form of b...oating annually and that almost 1 in 5 households have a boat or watercraft. With the span of magnificent coastline, harbours, bays, and rivers Aussies are spoilt with options for enjoying time in, on or around our waterways. For seasoned boaters, this is the time to make sure your boat is serviced and ready to go, all the right gear is on board and that if you use a vehicle to tow your vessel, the trailer is in equally good condition. Check your boat licence and make sure your vessel rego and insurance is up to date. Experienced boaters will tell you that checking the detail before you go boating will have its rewards. For those that don’t own a boat, visit your local boating club and see what they have to offer. Think about getting a boat licence or joining some boating or sailing classes. Venture out with a small-craft hire, or simply do some research into what boating may be right for you. Whether you are a seasoned boater or a novice to boating, this is the perfect time to take action in preparation for the beautiful boating summers Australia offers each year. With all the challenges associated with COVID-19, many may be surprised that outdoor activities, and in particular recreational boating is currently seeing a boom in activity. While we are happy for those that can go boating, we also respect the challenges for those who are restricted from doing so, and likewise sympathise with those who are suffering or who have lost loved ones. The boating community’s thoughts are with you and wish that everyone has an equal opportunity to be on the water as soon as possible. A lifejacket is an important piece of safety equipment on any vessel. But it can’t save your life unless you’re wearing it. Find out more at: https://www.amsa.gov.au/national-safe-boating-week Boaters are also reminded to practice safe, responsible and enjoyable boating this summer. Skippers should always ensure the weather and sea conditions are suitable, check that your boat and equipment are suitable and your safety gear is complete and in-date, tell someone where you are going and your estimated time of return. Finally, be COVID Safe and follow physical distancing, gathering and hygiene advice.

07.01.2022 National Safe Boating Week is an annual event coordinated by Australia and New Zealand Safe Boating Education Group (ANZSBEG) members. The aim of the #safeboating week is to increase safe practices and promote responsible boat ownership. This #safeboating week, members will be highlighting a different safety theme each day. Today’s theme is: Safe boating means being a responsible owner.... Vessels need regular maintenance, servicing, and safety checks to keep them ship-shape. Equipment failures or vessel breakdowns can result in marine incidents which could endanger your crew, your passengers and yourself. You should inspect, service and maintain the vessel’s structure, engine and electrical systems and safety equipment. Be systematic about your maintenance and have a written maintenance schedule. Keep proper records of what maintenance has been done. Keeping proper records ensures you can track your maintenance program and prove that your vessel and equipment are appropriately maintained. Follow manufacturer guidelines and instructions concerning maintenance requirements. When performing maintenance or repairs, ask yourselfwould I be happy for my child, parent, or spouse to sail with this repair in place? Head to the AMSA website for more information on National Safe Boating Week https://www.amsa.gov.au/national-safe-boating-week
