22.01.2022 Congratulations Pippi! Today on 21 May 2020, the most famous creation of Astrid Lindgren will celebrate her 75th birthday. This artwork is made by the Australia...n picture book artist Shaun Tan who received the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in 2011. With pencil and color chalk, he puts Astrid Lindgren's internationally known character Pippi Longstocking on the head of a water buffalo (included in a short novel in his anthology Tales from Outer Suburbia). He created the illustration for his visit to Sweden in 2011 and later choosed to donate it to the Nationalmuseum. See more

20.01.2022 Wouldn’t this be lovely? It’s an old one of my Moleskines pictures, capturing that way we fall so completely into another private world when we read. Totally tr...ansported. I wonder - is she reading aloud to the birds, or are they just fascinated? #mondoodle #elisehurst #moleskineart #ink #lovebooks

19.01.2022 . . . SHAUN TAN!

19.01.2022 Hey lovely people. Tangential art... same characters - new medium. So far to go with this, so much to puzzle out, so early in this particular journey. I’ve been... accused of finding this too easy, but of course they don’t watch me sitting for hours after everyone is in bed, making a tiny pile of sawdust while I consider every minuscule detail. While I think about a curl of hair, notice how flat it is, how little I planned, worry about the wood splintering if I twist my fingers too much, ignoring the tiny cuts on my fingers as I focus on the tip of the knife... it’s not easy! I’m a baby taking its first shaky steps. But I love it. Same story, new language. Xx See more

04.01.2022 Playing with an idea... wondering if the rabbit is very very small, or the mushrooms are very very big. Important questions. #tinyrabbit #elisehurst #sporesorstars #illustratorsoninstagram

01.01.2022 Today Lorena Carrington and Kate Forsyth have launched the latest in their beautiful series of fairy tale retellings with Serenity Press, "Snow White, Rose Red ...and Other Tales of Kind Young Women" and it is, as their other books have been, absolutely stunning in word and image. Buy yourself a copy now! Lorena Carrington has been nominated for the Australian Fairy Tale Society 2020 Award for her artistic contributions to the field of fairy tales in Australia. As part of her nomination said: "Lorena is a photographic artist and illustrator. Publishing with Serenity Press (a West Australian firm), Lorena illustrates books by Australia’s leading fairytale authors such as Kate Forsyth and Sophie Masson, along with her own book of illustrated fairytale quotations, 'Wiser than Evening'. "As a founding member of the Australian Fairy Tale Society, Lorena has made valuable contributions: - Frequent Ezine contributor - Frequent AFTS Conference presenter & some programme or flier design - Regular Fairy Tale Ring attendee - Anthology subcommittee member." She also presents workshops and has created several major exhibitions. "Of particular note is her series of acclaimed fairytale books with internationally celebrated New South Wales author/scholar/storyteller Kate Forsyth (an earlier AFTS awardee) on the West Australian publisher Serenity Press. "Lorena's reputation has sprung from her unique way of engendering new life from decay - moss, twigs, bones, insect wings, shells, bark, fallen leaves and other detritus, mingled with spider webs, steam, mist and coiling ferns - stemming from a combined love of nature, photography and fairy tales. "Her true achievement, therefore, transcends professional accolades; it speaks to an eco-spiritual aspect of fairy tales that many of us hold dear: an ability to approach life and death with childlike wonder, and to let the world enchant us."
