25.01.2022 OK, OK - time for an update! Wow it has been over 2 months since the last post! Sorry We are slowly getting started, going out for our second ride tomorrow (hopefully we are lucky with the weather, not looking great at this stage! ). The first pilot training session should be held in late August/ early September and then we will hopefully be rolling a lot more regularly. As always if anyone is interested in signing up as a volunteer pilot just private message or email [email protected] for more info. I know this is is all pretty slow moving...lucky one of Cycling Without Age's core values is "slowness" (although not quite what is intended!! hehe)

25.01.2022 I took a photo of this a few weeks back and just came across it on my phone (you may need to zoom in!). Although this article is hardly significant since it polled only 1,200 Australians, I think its point is probably still valid - we have less contact with our neighbours than a decade ago (and there is apparently a loneliness crisis). I've never had a lot of close contact with my neighbours, but it's something that I would love if I could cultivate. This is what Cycling Without Age at its heart is all about - neighbourship. Getting out in the community and providing opportunities to connect with other people

25.01.2022 Wow - we have hit $850 in a short amount of time, so close to 20% of the target which is just amazing! Thanks again to the generous donors, when we get one of these beauties out on the streets of MV, you will know that it was YOU who helped put it there! :D

24.01.2022 Further to my other post I wanted to make a non-video announcement that Cycling Without Age Moonee Valley in partnership with Wintringham was successful in our MVCC grant application!! This means we can now put in an order for the trishaw and get the program up and running at Wintringham Ron Conn (Avondale Heights) early next year!! Thanks so much again to all who donated to the go fund me page as the grant wouldn't have been successful without that kickstart so you have really helped to make this a reality

23.01.2022 A big thank you to the Lions Club of Taylors Lakes for having me present to them last night and for their kind donation! I also got to witness them present a $5,000 cheque that they raised to help research and fight childhood cancers. What a great club!!

22.01.2022 A great idea shared by my CWA colleague Matiu Bush to his One Good Street page. How awesome would it be if someone set something like this up here! https://thespinoff.co.nz//dinner-with-a-cool-granny-in-t/

21.01.2022 Just submitted our application for the MVCC biannual community grants! And now we wait...

19.01.2022 Great photos, looks like a lovely morning! Check out SBS World news tonight 6:30 for the story if you can

18.01.2022 This couple is amazing! But for those not so able, Cycling Without Age helps to still give that feeling of freedom and wellbeing just from being outdoors with the wind in your hair

18.01.2022 So, 1 day after establishing this page...it's time to talk turkey! Just kidding, but I thought I better let everyone know about the GoFundMe page I have established for this cause (you may note I established the page in December...I'm not a natural at fundraising/ marketing/ networking etc which is pretty important in the starting of this venture, so it has taken me some time to work up to this point!) The specialised trikes used for CWA are pretty pricey, so the aim is for ...the majority of the trike/s to be funded by corporate sponsors and grants, but to be able to get this funding, I need to have done a bit of the ground work first. So please check out the link, any small amount to help get started would be great, there will be updates about fundraisers to come in the future. Thank you! https://www.gofundme.com/cycling-without-age-moonee-valley

16.01.2022 They say there's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing, so out for a ride today along some local bike paths. The ducks around the Wetlands seemed to enjoy the weather but not sure this route would make it on the Cycling Without Age route list with those hills (even with e-assist)!

15.01.2022 A line at the end of this Tedx talk by founder of Cycling Without Age, Ole Kassow, really struck a chord with me, especially in light of the recent 4 Corners reports regarding aged care: "Life in a nursing home can and should be a place of joy and continued mobility". We may feel powerless to address staffing ratios and quality of care issues that very badly need to be addressed in some facilities, but we CAN give elderly residents in aged care homes a bit of joy in their day by the simple act of getting out and feeling the wind in their hair, having a tea or coffee and some good conversation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O6Ti4qUa-OU

13.01.2022 Just thought I'd share a quick video for any new visitors to the page to introduce them to the concept of CWA and how it started. Also I'm still on the look out for interested parties to help me get this initiative off the ground, so if you are in the Moonee Valley area and have any experience in fundraising/ marketing/ sales or good bicycle contacts (as in people with an interest in bicycles/ groups etc) and want to get involved I would love to hear from you! Thanks, Julia.

12.01.2022 A bit of a late update/ pic from training on the weekend. Thanks to the lovely team at Fairway Hostel in Sandringham for letting me join their training session. Just in time while we await the arrival of our trishaw any day now!

11.01.2022 Just had to share one more of the convoy in motion!

11.01.2022 Hello lovely followers and likers! Facebook keeps telling me you haven't heard from me for a while and to post something...but I have no news! We are in the world of red tape to do with OHS, risk, insurances and the like So to anyone I have gotten in contact with about volunteering more than a few weeks ago now - sorry I have not gotten in touch again about the next steps around training etc...thanks for your patience, hoping to get those wheels rolling ASAP!!

08.01.2022 Out for a ride last week which has been the best day of spring yet (possibly to be outdone by today?)

06.01.2022 Wow, what a weekend we had at the first ever Cycling Without Age Australia get together! 3 days of amazing presentations, discussions & food, capped off with a 5 trishaw convoy where I got to be a passenger! The stories were inspiring, the people were fantastic. Have returned armed with some new ideas & tools, more confident & motivated than ever! Exciting things are happening in this space which I cant wait to share with you as things progress! For now, here are a few photos...

05.01.2022 These finally arrived today! Only 7 months after the actual bike arrived, but luckily we are moving along with this at a pretty slow pace so it's all good! Training happening on 1st of October, if anyone is interested in learning how to pilot the trishaw then send us a message! Still on the hunt for more volunteers!

04.01.2022 Amazing! This sort of cycling infrastructure really encourages cycling for everyone, and it's great to see that the change is possible with real commitment and action.

04.01.2022 I have a special announcement that I decided required a video to make! (Spoiler alert: the MVCC grant application was successful yay)!!

04.01.2022 Wow. Ok so the views might not be *quite* as spectacular as this...but it will still be great in MV

04.01.2022 The trishaw has arrived!!! Had a quick look today (just a photo op really!) while some of the team at Wintringham and I had a chat about our next steps. Still a few things to cover off with OHS etc then we can start with getting volunteers on board and learning how to ride the bike! If you registered your interest as a volunteer late last year I will be getting in touch soon to confirm your interest and discuss where to from here. If you didn't register your interest but you would like to volunteer as a "pilot" then just comment here or send me a DM!

02.01.2022 Hello and welcome to the Cycling Without Age - Moonee Valley page! Below is the video that inspired many people to get involved with CWA - including me (Julia). I have signed up as an affiliate and am dedicated to getting one of these amazing trikes out on the streets of Moonee Valley to put smiles on the faces of elderly residents. At this stage I am actively on the hunt for an interested community group/ business to partner with to enable this to happen. So have a watch of the video if you haven't seen it already (or watch it again, I've watched it about 100 times!) and please contact me if you have any questions or comments. Thanks, Julia. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qzHn9jZNDc

02.01.2022 I haven't posted for a while as there's not much to report just at the moment, but here is another great feel good video reminding us of the joys of Cycling Without Age

01.01.2022 Breaking the cycle of loneliness in aged care is so important for the wellbeing of the residents, and with an ageing population it's only going to get more important. Cycling Without Age seeks to help to break this cycle and give our elders the opportunity to connect with others and share their story.

01.01.2022 Four new trikes (aka "couch on wheels" ) headed for SA! Cant wait to get just one of these on the streets of Moonee Valley (then hopefully more once everyone sees how awesome they are & how much joy they bring)!
