25.01.2022 It's baby bird season! Have you seen any nests around? This baby bar-shouldered dove is being cared for by Darwin Wildlife Sanctuary. At this time of year, t...his species along with double-barred finches and dollar birds are starting to nest. We'd love to hear if you have any nests in your backyard

24.01.2022 We will be back again bigger and better next Sunday 18th at the Botanic Gardens Open Day!

24.01.2022 Needed: 30 of these concrete bollards for a big new enclosure for parrot species.......... Any suggestions on where we could find some would be greatly appreciated.....

22.01.2022 UPDATE: better xray of fracture in comments.... This big Frilled neck lizard was unfortunately hit by a car. He has a broken tibia but fingers crossed, now it has a splint, it will calcify enough to get him back home (away from the road) in a few weeks!

22.01.2022 These Bush Stone Curlews needed our help getting their newly hatched chicks up a roadside curb when they got stuck out in the heat of the day. Here they are showing us just how dedicated they are as parents and how they scare away preditors! If you didn't know they were harmless they would do a good job getting you to stay away! Within minutes the family was reunited and headed off into the protection of the scrub. (We also left a big bowl of water for them!)

21.01.2022 Stay as still as a tree and safe you will be.

20.01.2022 Its definitely baby bird season! As a general rule chirpy babies should just go back up in the nearest most covered branch, anything that doesn't chirp should be dropped at your nearest vet or call us for pick up!

20.01.2022 Competition time! We have 4 microbat nesting boxes to give away..... The first 4 people to answer this question correctly will recieve 1 of the boxes! How many mosquitos can an insect bat eat in 1 night??... Please post your answer in the comments..... See more

20.01.2022 This darling Northern Brush-tail possum joey was found abandoned in a back yard, currently she is being fussy but is loving or at least willing to try Syzygium fruit, the one in the video is suborbiculare, As well as Maranthes corymbosa, Terminalia microcarpa, Celtis phillippinensis, Planchonia, careya, Albyzia lebeck, Eucalyptus sp Acacia seed umbulata and limbata are favourites as well as the foliage of all these trees and flowers. When we care for different species it makes us realise how important our diversity of flora is in urban environments

20.01.2022 Our Pied Cormorant is doing so well having recovered from a crocodile bite and major surgery to clean up his wounds. He was found in Shoal Bay coastal reserve and bought to us barely clinging to life. He loves his pilchards and is slowly gaining weight getting ready for a lovely wet season release!! Save a life, save our number! We are 24/7

19.01.2022 We are down at the Botanical Gardens with our new stall! We are selling earings, tote bags, sonic animal deterrents, paintings, soft toys (see comments for pics) and 100% of sales goes directly to the rescue and care of our native wildlife......

18.01.2022 Looking for a project for the kids over the holidays? Many of our bird species are nesting at the moment and they love something soft to finish them off! These seed pods have dog hair in them and if you hang them around your yard they provide great nesting material AND you could even paint them with a water based paint to spruike up the garden!

18.01.2022 Plovers may be a bit dramatic at this time of year, but this is why, they are amazing and protective parents. So, when these 3 chicks became stuck in a drain in the middle of an apartment complex they didn't leave them, thats when we received the call. One of our amazing rescue team members was on-site quickly and managed to get them out and back with their parents before the next dump of rain!!! (And not even a scratch on him!)

18.01.2022 This is fantastic! Well Done City of Darwin, a great precedent to set!

17.01.2022 We reeeeeaaally need towels and baby blankets. If you have towels to donate please message us on the page or call us for drop off location details.

17.01.2022 The first of our Firewalks. A fire walk is where a group of volunteers walks through burnt bushland checking for injured wildlife. Sadly a male and a female possum did not make it but a few healthy wallabys were spotted darting off and a young Roufus Owl was spotted fledging between high branches so we will keep checking on that to make sure the parents are still coming back to feed it. Fire is a natural and important part of our ecosystem but unnecessary suffering is not. Safety is paramount for our volunteers and making sure a site is cleared by NT Fire first is a must. Even days later there is still active flames and smouldering logs......

15.01.2022 NEEDED URGENTLY! New carers, rescuers and transport team members for the Northern Suburbs of Darwin!!!! Please leave a comment if you love wildlife and would like to be able to care!

14.01.2022 Pheasant couccals are amazing prehistoric looking birds. This one flew into a car. Luckily it only had concussion and after 24hrs it was rearing to go! See its release in comments....

14.01.2022 This little spotted tree monitor got itself into to trouble on the end of a chainsaw. After some emergency surgery and 8 weeks in care it was able go home!

12.01.2022 Big shout out to Tiger Contracting team for yet another emergency wildlife rescue. After losing their mother, these orphans are now in expert care with one of our specialist carers.

12.01.2022 Love our Bats, turn the volume on.

11.01.2022 This darling little nightjar owlet was handed into Humpty Doo Vets after being found in molasses! Luckily it is now with a great carer who also has another one this age so they can grow up and be released together!

10.01.2022 UPDATE: We won!!! We now have the funds to send our donated anaesthetic machine away for a service and repair!!!! Thank you so much to Darwin Kind and everyone who came and supported us and the other amazing pitches!!!! Please support us! I have a chance to give a 4 minute pitch as to why DWS deserves the door takings at this great event! Please come along to the Lucky Bat on Thursday evening to support DWS. If we win the money will go towards our anaesthetic machine to finally get our wildlife clinic up and running!!

09.01.2022 Super education page right here. Jump on and have a squizz.

09.01.2022 A huge thank you to this amazing local business!!!! They have donated 3 water coolers for our volunteers!! At this time of year its exactly what we needed!!!

09.01.2022 When babies come into care it is up to us to try to teach them things their parents would have. Obviously we as humans could never do the same job as mum and dad but we make do! This little curlew was found on a road, dehydrated, disorientated and with a little cold..... Doing much better now thanks to his dedicated carer!

08.01.2022 Update: please email contact details to [email protected] URGENTLY NEEDED! Carers, rescuers and transport team members are needed for the Northern Suburbs and City of Darwin. If you love wildlife and are keen to learn how to care please leave us a comment.....

06.01.2022 This young Black Cormorant came into care exhausted and starving. A couple weeks of good nutrition and she was ready to go. This was a very happy ending for this beautiful green eyed bird!

06.01.2022 These 2 little Antilopine Wallaroo joeys were handed in from members of the public who had held onto them longer than they should have. Both joeys had injuries and health concerns and suffered unnecessarily being raised by someone not trained in macropod care. If you find wildlife, please do the right thing and get it into care with an experienced and licensed person. We are 24hours!! If you are interested in learning wildlife care, rescue or want to volunteer at the sanctuary PM us

06.01.2022 DWS has an amazing team of presenters and critters that can visits schools, community groups and organisations for educational and engagement sessions. Email us to organise a visit!

05.01.2022 We are in need of a working metal hills hoist washing line. Does anyone have one they’d like to rehome? Please PM us!

05.01.2022 Big thankyou to the incredible team at Howard Springs Vet!! This lovely Water Python mistook a golf ball for an egg in a chook coop this morning. The golf ball was extracted and the python is recovering well.

03.01.2022 One of THE best ways to look after our wildlife is to protect, support and grow their habitats! All the gang at the Top End Native Plant sale have fantastic knowledge and advice about the perfect native plants for your place to help support your native wildlife.

03.01.2022 Come on down to nightcliff markets this morning for your breakfast laksa and purchase a Christmas gift that gives twice!

03.01.2022 Are you a fisherman? Do you cast net??? We have 3 Seabirds in care at the moment and they love their fish. If you ever have left over fresh caught bait or even feel like throwing the net out just for these guys they would love it! Call our rescue hotline for the closest drop off points......

03.01.2022 Another little black flying fox had to be rescued from barbed wire this morning. We cannot express enough just how much time matters for injured and orphaned wildlife, the quicker we can get to critters the better their chance of survival. This little boy is thankfully still viable and will join the rest of the crew after 10 days of quarantine....

01.01.2022 The footage is a bit rough (filming after sunset is always a bit dodgy!) These 4 black flying foxes had all been rescued off barbed wire fences but they have an amazing capacity to heal the membrane in their wings if they are given veterinary care, time and good husbandry while they heal. They all came in at different times but all from this colony, fly free little pollinators and stay away from fences!!!
