23.01.2022 In my studio last night - the Spier Secret Dinner, with Hetta van Deventer-Terblanch cooking up a storm. A chilly night turned warm with good fellowship, great food, and superb wines. You cant beat it.

22.01.2022 If ........... or Looking Forward to 2014 If you can keep your head when all bout you are losing theirs - and turning into porcelain, You'll be a Potter my son!... Apologies to Rudyard Kipling.

20.01.2022 Hilton is just north of Pietermaritzburg.

20.01.2022 Hettas beautiful meal on one of my dinner plates - just so clever!

18.01.2022 I went to Rust en Vrede Restaurant to visit my plates on Thursday, and had the most wonderful meal - a truly special, memorable succession of splendid food and wine. Bravo John, Andrea and Joakim and everybody else.

17.01.2022 Contrary to village expectations, our house remains high and dry after some devastating floods here in Franschhoek. However, our garden has sustained some damage - its all sandy after the water overflooded the river. We are pleased that our river walls kept us safe, while others in our street stepped out of bed into swirling muddy water.

16.01.2022 Our popup dinners last week were a sellout success, with outstanding piano music from Christopher Duigan, fantastic food from Chef Duncan Doherty, and excellent wines from Graham Beck and Haut Espoir - plus Rob Armstrongs beer! All good.

15.01.2022 Just 1 week to go until the start of the Legacy Exhibition at the William Humphreys Art Gallery! The exhibition will go on from Kimberley to the Witness Hilton Festival in Natal, and then I will bring it down here for the Franschhoek "Art in Clay" festival in November. It then moves back to Natal for the Juliet Armstrong retrospective in May/June 2014, then to Port Elizabeth to the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Museum of Art, and finally it will end at the Ceramics SA National Exhibition in Alphen in November 2014.

15.01.2022 I spent a good part of Thursday (known internationally as #MandelaDay) making many mugs in honour of Mr Mandela's birthday. Each mug displays his 'Spiral of Truth' on them as a stamp - the same stamp that I used when making the dinner service for the Nelson Mandela Foundation some years ago. I shall be auctioning these mugs when they are completed, and the money will be donated to Trevelyn Lodge - a home for disabled people, where my son Jamie lives. It's a very good cause ...- they have many folk there who dont have enough money to pay for the care they recieve, so this will be a help. I attended several dinners with Mr Mandela - one at Kirstenbosch for the 46664 concerts launch, one at Vergelegen for the Rhodes Mandela Trust launch, and I also went to both 46664 concerts as his guest in his private box! I owe him so much, as we all do. If you're interested in this auction, please watch this space for more information.

14.01.2022 My Heads on the Still Life Exhibition at AVA in Cape Town - making interesting shadows. Great ceramics exhibition - get along there.

13.01.2022 With this uncharacteristically warm weather that we're being treated to in the Cape, one cannot help but think of spring! A tasty salad of Marinated Mushrooms, Beans & Feta will do quite nicely today methinks, enjoyed with a glass of crisp white on the terrace. Get the recipe from Scrumptious South Africa: http://bit.ly/AlbV5k Bowl by Yours Truly

11.01.2022 Our Legacy Exhibition at the William Humphreys Art Gallery begins this evening! Here are all the details about this travelling exhibition and its journey over the next few months: http://on.fb.me/13zxXaN Piece by Juliet Armstrong

11.01.2022 The David Walters and Friends travelling Legacy Exhibition attracted so many people at the Witness Hilton Festival - Juliet Armstrongs friends and relatives, potters, students, buyers - and Mike Hart was there every day, selling Ukhamba from Juliets collection for the benefit of the original makers. It was moving and emotional, exhausting and inspirational - and many thanks to Hilton College for inviting us. I was pleased to attend the play Solomon and Marion with Janet Suzman - wonderful, and not to be missed - I was at Hilton with Janets brother Paul in 1964 - 1968 - for goodness sake! We then travelled back to Franschhoek with the Legacy Exhibition which will appear in my Ceramics Gallery for the Art in Clay Festival - 26th October - 26th November. Ever onwards!

10.01.2022 The David Walters and Friends exhibition is now on at the William Humphreys Art Gallery in Kimberley. Its a wonderful show, featuring such a variety of work by talented South African artists, and hosted by the best National Art Gallery team you could find.

09.01.2022 The next leg of the Legacy Exhibition - here in my studio in Franschhoek, 26th October 2013. NOTE - the Popup dinner/concerts/exhibition opening evenings. Book now.

06.01.2022 We are offering a cozy drawing Materclass in my studio in Franschhoek - The Ceramics Gallery - with acclaimed Natal artist Jinny Heath on Saturday 28th June. R400 pp includes lunch, wine and so on. Contact us on [email protected] for details.

05.01.2022 The opening of the DWAF exhibition at the William Humphreys Art Gallery was wonderful - touching, tearful and magnificent, with wonderful work on show! A really superb exhibition. It certainly needs to be seen, and the reasons for its existence need to be pondered by all. 04.01.2022 My Mandela day mugs are ready for sale. I have made reduction fired Tenmoku and Celadon mugs and they cost R100 each - available from my studio at 24 Dirkie Uys Street, Franschhoek. All the proceeds will go to Trevelyn Lodge, a home for folk with learning disabilities - some of whom cant afford their fees. Every little bit helps, as the disability grants in our country are disgracefully low. Your tax money gets spent on some weird and wonderful things, as you know, but helping disabled folk who cannot help themselves is not one of them

02.01.2022 For a whole year - seems like more - Hennie Meyer and his friends have been making 'Slurps' around Cape Town in the most inclusive and wonderful WDC 'event' imaginable. One of the 'squeeze' events was held in my studio in Franschhoek, during the Franschhoek Literary Festival and the Classic Music Festival weekend. One of the squeezers was my friend, musician Christopher Duigan - see photos. Today I went to the final event to pick up 'my' slurp - and guess what!?I picked up Christopher Duigans - so take a flying guess as to what he is getting from me for Christmas?
