21.01.2022 Early Morning Swim at Dee Why #wellbeing Steve Dubé

21.01.2022 Congratulations to Kristin Cihoski for taking Gold and breaking the national record for the over 30 age group 50 m freestyle in the Australian Winter Swimming Champs at North Sydney Olympic Pool last Sunday morning as reported in the Manly Daily on Wednesday. Congrats also to Judy Saunders fortaking silver in her age group 50m freestyle and to Mick Samuels and Greg Slater for making the finals in their age group 50m events. Well done and the Ice Picks will certainly celebrate the success of our new recruits at the final day of the season tomorrow morning Sunday 23 Sept at the Dee Why pool. Well done to all!

21.01.2022 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of long term Ice Picks member and stalwart Dave 'Sinkers' Sinclair. Over many years Sinkers fulfilled key executive roles at the Icepicks including President and Secretary, he will be sadly missed. Details of Sinkers' funeral are not yet known. We will publish them here as soon as they are known.

20.01.2022 SWIMMING RETURNS THIS SUNDAY -5th JULY We have our first swim this Sunday which has been approved by Northern Beaches Council following the submission of our C...OVID-19 Safety plan and as such it is important that all members follow the following guidelines on Sunday. We ask that everyone has a read of the plan prior to turning up on Sunday. The following issues are vital to keep our members, families and the public safe: If you are unwell please do not attend the event and get tested. Each member or visitor must provide their names and contact details for possible contact tracing, this will be done at the sign-in room. All members are encourage to download the COVIDSafe App prior to attending. When attending please follow the 1.5 metre rule, we will have markers showing where you can sit or stand inside the change rooms, the sign-in room and around the pool. The preference is for members to change at home prior to the races and shower at home after the races however the change rooms will be open under the limited numbers rule and only one person can shower at a time. The limits on how many people can use the change rooms at any one time will be 13 in the mens, 16 in the womens and 10 in the sign-in area. There will be signage displaying these numbers and a person keeping count at the mens change room so please follow these instructions. The change rooms will be cleaned under the guidelines and soap and paper will be provided in the toilet areas, please wash hands as per the instructions. A safety talk will be provided prior to our first swim which will enforce the conditions required and provide information on distancing and cleanliness rules. While this will be a bit different to our normal procedures this shouldnt stop us from enjoying the day, initially there will be both the 30 m and 50 m events, with further discussion on how to proceed with competition for the rest of the season in the following weeks. All members attending are encourage to wear club uniform so we can distinguish you form the public, its been so long we may have forgotten what you look like. The Surf Club is not open yet so no official after swim events or meal will be happening however members are welcome to go back to the Dee Why RSL after the races. See more

17.01.2022 Another MAGNIFICENT day down at Dee Why pool for the Ice Picks last Sunday, with water temperature of 16c courtesy of the surf coming in again. There were quite a few events on the day including 2x Knockout Semi Finals. Denis Lewis and Russell Parkes narrowly defeated Peter Sheehan and Greg Candrick.... Whilst Paul Candrick and Martin Lyall BLITZED their race to convincingly overpower Alex Grant and Michael (Mothers) Berridge. This sets up for what should be an easy Grand Final victory for Paul and Martin on the last day of the last day of the 2016 Season. Whilst on the subject of stella performances, Martin Lyall also took out the coveted 3rd round of the Dash 4 Cash pocketing a much needed (for beer) $50 for his efforts. 14.01.2022 Great to see one of our regular Dee Why RSL ice Picks Barry (Cholly) Cardiff bestowed Life Membership of Dee Why Surf Life Saving Club. Cholly joined the surf club as a cadet back in 1951 and is still going strong. Apart from his Life Membership badge, presented to him by the Hon Bronwyn Bishop, he also received the 60-year Long Service badge. In his younger days, Cholly was a big wave rider and also a beach inspector before he became a very popular teacher at St Augustine's ...College at Brookvale. These days Cholly jokes about how slow he is in the pool. And his style is something to be seen. Picture: Cholly with the Hon Bronwyn Bishop and Dee Why Surf Club President Allen Lakeman. See more
