24.01.2022 Newest addition to equipment - the Epson SureColor P800 professional gallery quality photo printer. Capable of A2+ sized prints with roll support - allows a gallery quality photo image of 430mm x 15metres on the highest quality gold fibre photo stock. Although photo printing is not in our normal daily business of graphic design and studio/event/sports photography for clients such as Giant Bicycles, being able to print at the very best photo reproduction quality on fine art p...apers and metallics at A2 size or long roll feed in-house is a nice thing :) PDA offers quick turn-around for clients on SRA3 colour laser up to 350gsm in-house for urgent runs of postcards, flyers, manuals and tags including professional trimming, hole drilling and paper folding. We also have long-standing relationships with fantastic suppliers for high quality and larger quantity digital and offset printing with trade prices and now with the new Epson - highest quality photo printing capability with 9 colour pigment inks.

22.01.2022 Lots of work but finally complete and ready to use! New Studio and Cyclorama large enough for a sports-car or group of people. When the main lights are turned off it is pitch-black inside so there will be no reflections of the room onto shiny products. Looking into the cyclorama tricks your eyes into thinking it is endless! Disabled-sized bathroom and small kitchenette, two change-room areas, large mirrors. Plenty of 3-phase power sockets. Classic designer furniture also suitable for use as props in shot.

20.01.2022 ...a pic from Hosier Lane Yesterday for Giant Bikes - first bike in the country with new wireless SRAM groupset available next year - Only 3 or 4 sets of this groupset currently in Aus total but no others on a bike yet. This shot was for Giant to spread around social media and had to be out quick! Bike: The new TCR Advanced Pro.

20.01.2022 I didn't manage to get a client for the Aussie Open this year so unfortunately no accreditation - however I did manage to get on court at Kooyong - here are some snaps from the first set... Jordan Thompson (Aus) upset win over Feliciano Lopez (Spa) at the Kooyong Classic 7-6 (9-7), 6-3. A very grey and overcast day, little bit of spitting rain.

13.01.2022 Signed with Fuji-Xerox for a Phaser 7800 - oversize A3 colour laser for amazing professional print output. SRA3 largest paper size which can be cropped to A3 for colour right to the edges. Prints up to 350gsm paper-weights or auto-duplex 300gsm. PDA can print many cards, tags or smaller pages per SRA3 page and crop professionally into individuals, hole-drill or fold into booklets to tight deadlines for our clients.

13.01.2022 A recent little photoshoot and Instagram-Video for Giant South Yarra's new women's cycling clothes.

12.01.2022 PDA is proud to have been doing some work for The Australian Conservation Foundation including quite a few printing jobs of various kinds - postcards, stickers, business-cards and signs. This 2.7 metre banner enlarging an amazing watercolour of The Great Barrier Reef by my famous illustrator Uncle: Roland Harvey, is one of the jobs. It will be displayed at Federation Square in Melbourne as part of The ACF display to stop the horrible Adani Coal Mine from destroying our reef. The banner is printed in high resolution and the art is reproduced by stitching together 4 x 50 megapixel photographs to capture every bit of the watercolour paper grain and to show the amazing detail and skill of the illustration.

11.01.2022 Giant TCR Advanced SL Maglia Rosa. Limited Edition celebrating Tom Dumoulin's overall win in the Giro d'Italia 2017. These are a few of the first shots taken in the new studio!

11.01.2022 You might not guess it immediately, but the logo is actually 'p', 'd' and 'a' all combined. Also representing colour swatches and camera aperture of course (although I could be wrong but I don't think a 12 bladed aperture exists in any DSLR lens...) ;)

10.01.2022 A great day for Giant with 2nd and 3rd placings - Tim Berkel and Brad Kahlefeldt. Luke Bell was way ahead on the bike but couldn't keep it up to the end.

10.01.2022 Photoshop turns 25 today. Version 1 was released in 1990. I certainly remember purchasing Photoshop 3 and possibly learning on Photoshop 2 in about 1993. One of the features I actually asked Adobe to introduce still remains on the program today in the File/Scripts menu. I can't say it was my letter that made them include the feature of course but the very next edition of the software included exactly what I wrote to them about. When released they hoped to sell 500 copies a month!

08.01.2022 (some of) My Grandmother's art featured on the latest Australia Post stamps. She was responsible for some very famous design approximately early 1950's such as the Crown Lager bottle shape and gold label which would have been hand-painted with a single-haired paintbrush. I'm uncertain but I think she also did earlier versions of VB and Fosters labels and some others. Crown Lager, Bisleri and many other artworks of hers still survive on labels today nearly 70 years on.

07.01.2022 Almost finished... number 3 new purpose built photo studio space with cyclorama for hire for other photographers and film-makers. No skylights for complete light control. Design will remain at the current office across the road.

05.01.2022 The incredibly amazing and legendary lens - EF 200 f/1.8 - a recent addition to PDA has made it's way into nearly every photoshoot in the last 3 months. Made in 1996 at the very highest standard, this lens surpasses virtually everything made since for image quality and we never cease to be surprised at the lovely shots it can produce.

04.01.2022 Photography And Design Australia is very pleased to announce that we purchased a new studio warehouse space. Unit 44 construction will be completed by January 2017 and includes a bathroom and kitchenette/coffee area. The walls will be 7m high inside and with a 5m tall x 4m wide electric rollerdoor suitable for loading large objects. The aim will be to build a cyclorama (infinty wall) similar to the one pictured around 4m x 5m and at least 2.4m high to photograph objects as ...large as cars. The studio will also be hired out to other photographers, TV/film-crews and workshops. The cyclorama can be painted as a green-screen for video production or any other colour required for various important shoots. We also plan to have permanent other features set-up such as a black photo area, our 2m cube photo tent and a scaffold for higher camera views. See more

02.01.2022 Almost every single day for the last 16 years, we have been doing design and photography for Giant Bicycles (Aus/NZ). We are extremely proud to have Giant as a client. Some parts of the year there is extreme pressure to make deadlines and often we need to pump out 6 or 7 various advertisements such as these in a day or overnight. We are also responsible for the bicycle studio photography and occasional race/action shots used in Giant's marketing material.

02.01.2022 Cool advert shot recently for QSR Australia Luke Brinksma - with direction and video editing by Tony French. This will be played on the big screen at Melbourne Mustangs Ice-Hockey games at the Icehouse Docklands. Thanks to my kids for extremely good behaviour during Icehouse filming :)

02.01.2022 Close to the finish of the cyclorama build. A little bit more sanding. Primer/surfacer and paint. Then it's on to black carpet tiles for the rest of the studio floor (and a whole lot of cleaning-up of plaster dust). 3.6m x 3.6m x 7m.

01.01.2022 Just arrived - professional crimper for perfect folds on thick card or even folding A4 down to DL or multiple map-folds all possible - squashes the grain of the paper-stock in the perfect direction for folding and gives a beautiful finish.
