24.01.2022 SCAM WARNING With tax time over, be on high alert for phone calls demanding the payment of fake tax debts. Stay vigilant and warn your friends and family so they don’t get tricked. Be suspicious if someone contacts you demanding payment. Remember, we would never: Request the payment of a tax debt via prepaid gift cards (eg iTunes or Google Play) Ask for direct credit to be paid into a personal bank account or via an ATM... Demand immediate payment, use aggressive behaviour, or threaten you with arrest or deportation. These are typical scammer tactics! If you’re unsure about a call you receive, hang up immediately. Phone our scam hotline on 1800008540 to check if the call was legitimate or report the scam. Find more info at www.ato.gov.au///identity-security/verify-or-report-a-scam

19.01.2022 Is there a way of Lodging Tax Returns without Penalty???? The countdown is on! .. Your 2020 tax return needs to be lodged by 2 November 2020 (31 October falls on a Saturday this year) if you’re planning to do it by yourself. Even after the due date has passed, it is important to lodge as soon as you can because interest will be charged by the ATO after 21 November 2020. Taxpayers, who use a tax agent like us, can often lodge well beyond that deadline without penalty. Tax ...agents are given concessional extended deadlines which mean that we can lodge returns on behalf of clients up to Mid May 2021 without incurring any penalty. What are the penalties for not lodging a tax return? Firstly, the ATO will issue you a Failure To Lodge (FTL) penalty if your tax return isn’t lodged by the due date. This fine is calculated at the rate of one penalty unit for each period of 28 days or part thereof that the document is overdue, up to a maximum of five penalty units. The value of a penalty unit is currently $222, which makes the maximum penalty which can be applied for an individual $1,110. What should you do to avoid ATO penalties? If you are concerned that you can’t meet the 31 October deadline, you should now be giving serious thought & MUST be registered with us by 31 October in order to benefit from the extended deadline. If you have any query, feel free to contact us. Dev Accounting & Financial Solutions Pty Ltd 0430582430 [email protected]

11.01.2022 Covid-19 early release of super extended to 31 December 2020. Pursuant to recent legislative amendments, individuals now have until 31 December 2020 (extended from 24 September) to access up to $10,000 of their superannuation under the compassionate ground of release that was introduced in response to the Coronavirus in April this year. You need to check the eligibility criteria carefully before you apply for COVID-19 early release of super and keep records that demonstrate ...your eligibility. Temporary residents were only entitled to make a single application for $10,000 to be released during the 2019/20 financial year (I.e., by 30 June 2020), and so this extension is not relevant to temporary residents. Eligible individuals who are looking to access their superannuation entitlements under the above new ground of release will be able to apply directly to the ATO through the myGov website (at www.my.gov.au) and certify that the eligibility criteria’s are satisfied. If you are unable to demonstrate your eligibility when ATO ask for evidence, ATO may revoke the determination issued in respect to your application. This means the amount paid to you under COVID-19 early release of super will: become assessable income need to be included in your tax return and you will pay tax on the released amount. If you provide false or misleading information to meet the eligibility criteria for early access to your super, you could face hefty fines of up to $12,000. Stay safe and well & please do not hesitate to contact us if you require further advice or assistance on 0430582430. PS: Please consider to take independent financial advice or contact to ATO before withdrawing of super annuation.
