24.01.2022 Everyday we deal with things that most people never have to. Sometimes we need to check in on each other and ask, RUOK?

23.01.2022 Today as part of volunteers week , the TFS held a presentation day at Penguin, this morning 6 members were presented with a certificate and cap from the NSW Government , to say thanks for their work during the bushfires early this year, Then this afternoon 2nd Officer Sam Fittkau was presented with the National Medal for 15 years service and Leading Fire Fighter David Ryan was presented with the first clasp on his Nation Medal for 25 years service. Congratulation to them all

22.01.2022 Many bushfires TFS crews have responded to already this season have started by out-of-control burn-offs conducted by landholders on private property, or previou...s burns that have flared up in windy, dry conditions. Rather than burning cubic metre piles at this time of year, TFS is encouraging people to consider other methods for disposing vegetation waste. It is too dry, the risk is too great and the consequences too high. Landowners who have recently had fires on their property must keep checking them to ensure they are completely extinguished. If a fire escapes your property, you will be liable for any damage caused.

22.01.2022 A big thank you to all our members at Devonport Fire Brigade, #ThankAFirstResponder

17.01.2022 Cleaning the lint filter on your clothes dryer every time you use it is a small act, but lint is flammable and a fire can start easily in a dryer if it isn’t cleaned.

16.01.2022 Some important things to remember if you're planning to burn on your property. Remember if you are in the Sorell, Glamorgan-Spring Bay and Break O'Day municipalities you will need a permit to burn from this Saturday 28 September.

14.01.2022 It's R U OK? Day, a reminder that every day is a day to start a conversation that could change a life. Today we're calling on Australians to learn what to say a...fter R U OK? so they can keep the conversation going when someone says they're not OK. There's more to say after R U OK? Learn what to say when listening with an open mind Learn what to say when encouraging action Learn what to say when checking in Learn how to continue a conversation that could change a life. When we know what to say next we can help someone open up and find pathways to support long before they're in crisis. 14.01.2022 Hi Folks It's that time of year again. We are looking for nominations for the 2020 Tasmanian Broadcasters VESA Volunteer Emergency Service Awards. We all know someone who deserves the recognition so let's start nominating now.

14.01.2022 From 2am Thursday 31 October fire permits are required statewide for anyone wishing to burn on their property. TFS permit officers issue permits with clear con...ditions that will ensure any burn is conducted as safely as possible. Fire permits offer a certain level of protection when landowners adhere to the fire permit's conditions. For information on how to obtain a fire permit free call 1800 000 699 or visit www.fire.tas.gov.au

13.01.2022 If an emergency vehicle with flashing lights appears in your rear view mirror you know to safely get out of its way. Now, to help protect our emergency workers,... a new road rule now applies when approaching any stationary or slow moving emergency vehicle with lights flashing (including the magenta lights of the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator). It means you must safely slow to 40km/h as you pass the emergency vehicle. This applies whatever direction you are travelling in, unless there is a dividing barrier. Take care when slowing and avoid braking suddenly. See more

10.01.2022 A house fire in Glenorchy last night was caused by a clothes dryer, destroying a garage, and $100,000 damage. Some tips for safe clothes dryer use: clean the ...lint filter after each use - lint is highly flammable and is the cause of many dryer-related fires. make sure your dryer is well ventilated. always run the dryer to the end of the cool down cycle - fires have been caused when the dryer has been stopped before the end of the cycle, causing the items to keep heating up and combusting while they are in a pile. For more information about how to stay stafe this winter visit www.fire.tas.gov.au

10.01.2022 11 days into the Melbourne Fire Fighter Stair climb , our members have collectively climbed 45136 stairs , please jump onboard at www.firefighter.org.au and throw a few sponsor dollars

09.01.2022 Winter is almost upon us. The likelihood of accidental house fires increases with people spending more time at home. Some tips to keep you and your family safe:... Install smoke alarms in every bedroom and hallway. Have a home fire escape plan that you practice with your whole family. Dust and test your smoke alarm once a month. Clean your clothes dryer filter after each use and always run it until the end of the cool down cycle. Keep everything two metres from the heater. Have your chimney and flue professionally cleaned annually. Never leave cooking unattended. Turn your electric blanket off when you get into bed. Use your wheat bag according to manufacturer’s instructions and never overheat in the microwave. Stay safe and visit www.fire.tas.gov.au for more information on how to stay fire safe.

08.01.2022 Keeping Tasmanians safe and secure is everyone's responsibility. By staying home, you dramatically reduce the risk of catching the virus, and you dramatically r...educe the risk of spreading it. Do your part to protect yourself and others, especially those who are in higher-risk categories, like the immunocompromised or older Tasmanians (think your parents/grandparents). For more information, visit www.coronavirus.tas.gov.au

08.01.2022 Today is R U OK Day - the day we are reminded to check in on people no matter what the day. When you notice the signs, no matter how small, trust the signs, trust your gut and ask "r u ok?" Not sure how to do that? Here are some tips.

07.01.2022 If you’re asleep during a house fire, the smell of smoke won’t wake you up. Have a working smoke alarm in every sleeping area, in hallways, and at the top of stair cases so you’re warned early if a fire starts in your home. Be fire safe this winter.

Fires in these windy conditions will be difficult to control. Fires that have been lit in the past fortnight should be patrolled as the wind increases, even if they are believed to be extinguished.

01.01.2022 Do you use a wheat bag? Hobart Fire Brigade attended an incident last night where a wheat bag caught fire in a microwave. Fortunately on this occassion the dam...age from the fire was limited to the microwave. However, there have been instances in Tasmania where wheat bags have caused house fires and a death. Tips for using wheat bags: only use in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions don't overheat in the microwave dispose of them when they get old and the contents dry out don't use them to warm bedding - use a hot water bottle instead More information is available here: http://www.fire.tas.gov.au//200053-TFS-Wheat-filled-hea-pa
