23.01.2022 PLANT OF THE WEEK : Lavandula angustifolia - English lavender DESCRIPTION: Scented flowering shrub, woody at the base, with slender grey-green foliage and slim stems of purple flowers during spring. This variety is much hardier in cold temperatures than the Italian or French lavender. USE IN: Perfect for cottage gardens and hedging. Suited to rockeries and pots. Right at home in cool dry climates. Cut flowers may be dried and used in flower arrangements or potpourri. LOCATIO...N: Plant in a sunny location and free-draining soil. Will tolerate lower light levels but flowering will be affected. CARE: Mulch and water regularly for the first 12 weeks until the plant establishes. Prune twice yearly (taking care to remove only 1/3 of the foliage while avoiding cutting into old wood) and fertilise yearly using a slow release fertiliser after flowering maintain compact growth. Avoid wet feet. Tolerates frost once established, if drainage is good. HEIGHT: 0.6m H x 0.6m W. See more
