22.01.2022 Does your dog display anxious behaviours or over react to certain people, dogs, noises, objects or environments? I have a special talk for owners of anxious or reactive dogs and have scheduled one for Thursday 1 October 2020 at Billy's Day-Care for Dogs, 106 Robinson Ave, Belmont from 6:30pm to 8:00 pm. In this information session we will learn how to keep your dog feeling safe and then look at ways to change their emotional reaction to those big scary monsters. It includes... practical tips to help you in real life scenarios. We will also look at some simple ways you can help them improve body confidence - as we all know, when you feel confident in your body it helps you move through the world with more confidence. Cost is $35 each (Significant discount available for rescue volunteers - please have your rescue email [email protected]) Some reviews from the last one - Rating: 5 stars Brilliant Talk! Really enjoyed it and I took away some new ideas and strategies to help my anxious dog. Was also really great to meet people in the same boat and it was a really supportive environment. Fiona covered a lot of information in the talk which was easy to understand and not overwhelming. Lisa QS Rating: 5 stars A really informative and well-presented workshop including a step by step "how to" deal with and manage reactivity. Fiona has an amazing ability to foster a sense of community during her workshops and talks, and this session is no exception. As Fiona points out in the talk, having a reactive dog can be a very isolating experience and being in a non-judgemental space with like-minded people experiencing similar issues brings with it a sense of relief for dog owners. Great if you're just getting started on some counter conditioning as a pet dog owner, if you're looking to tweak your current strategy or learn more about working with reactive dogs. Highly recommend Book online at https://www.thedoggylady.com.au//helping-your-anxious-or-/

19.01.2022 A little funny to help you start your week with a smile... Im not sure they get all the science correct but the gist of it is right! And... if you have been to my sniffer dog classes we have even discussed the last question!

19.01.2022 Ollie made us giggle today - he loves climbing on stuff ... but then... how do you sit when you find your target odour? Problem solving 101 with Ollie BC :)

18.01.2022 Check out Maggie finding the teeny weeny target hidden deep in the corner of the search area past a Doggy couch distraction - enjoy watching her read the scent plume .... ensuring she knows exactly where it is before she indicates.

17.01.2022 More Angus action!

17.01.2022 I had the pleasure of revisiting some favourite clients last night. I love proactive clients who understand that training is a lifelong commitment for dogs and that each of their pups is a unique individual with unique needs. Managing a multi dog household is no easy feat. Not only do you need to meet each dogs individual needs, you also have a group dynamic to manage. These guys do AMAZINGLY. If I was a beagle, Id be knocking on their door! Each of these dogs has their o...wn homework, including special alone time with their humans. For Algy, chilling out with a chew while his human unwinds with a beverage of their choice, for Ginger, special snuggle time with no competition from the others and for wee Lissie, going out with just her favourite human for some fun and learning that the world is safe. If you have more than one dog, consider a special alone session with each, it doesnt have to be every day (and you can pair it with your own relax time, be it snuggling in front of a movie or watching the world over a glass of wine). For more tips, check out my blog on multi-dog households - https://www.thedoggylady.com.au/blog-/multi-dog-households/ Great for singletons too... what activity will you do with your dog today? And omg, are they not the best looking dogs?

12.01.2022 Video 3 As mentioned in my previous post - Today we started conditioning the scent of Vegemite to mean awesome stuff (ie carrot) to Lady, who is such an incredible learner. Trainer Isla demonstrated excellent timing and mechanical skills in delivering carrot to Lady every time Lady smelt the Vegemite. By the end of our session, Lady was VERY eager to follow her Vegemite odour! ... Isla and a Lady have some homework to do, but watch this space to see some awesome Sniffer Pony developments! Thank you to Isla for her excellent training skills and lovely relationship she has with Lady.

09.01.2022 Who wants to learn a new target odour? Have you passed a minimum of beginners level with The Doggy Lady? Thinking of competing in Scent Work Trials? Or simply want a new challenge? ... Come join us at 2pm on Sunday 27 September for a fun 90 minute workshop with a maximum of six dogs. You will learn: - how to classically condition the new odour - how to teach a new indication (if you wish) - how to ensure the new odour is under stimulus control - how to prepare for scentwork trials This course is only available for those who have completed the foundations of Beginner Class. This class is also available as in-home training (including for those who are not current students) I will provide Cypress Oil - if you have already learnt Cypress, let me know and we can use either birch, anise or clove oils. Book online at https://www.thedoggylady.com.au//new-odour-beginner-gradu/

09.01.2022 You g Seamus almost forgot his sit when he got a taste of Vegemite!

09.01.2022 The theme of Master Class today was big, small, where. - where the dogs had to find both teeeny odours and big whopping ones - culminating in a final search with three targets - one which was a very small odour - also wrapped in cling film layers- then a larger target odour and a VERY stinky target. It was interesting to see which dogs found it easier to find the tiny amount of odour easiest and which found the larger quantity easiest. You may be surprised to know that most... dogs found searching for smaller quantity of odour easiest. Their noses are really underestimated. Plus, it really depends on what you train on. For best results, train with a variety of odour quantities and ages of odour (once the dog has their basics down). You may also need to change your search style to help your dog. Great training today by some awesome teams - we had our oldest (in experience!) team with Jasmine who was in my first ever sniffer dog school class through to Ada and Misty who graduated to a Masters last term. Plus Maggie and Angus - two of our most talented sniffer dogs. Phew! Great afternoon :)

08.01.2022 Advanced class had their first session on On-Body Detection today. Xena loved this new challenge and adapted beautifully.

04.01.2022 We also trained dogs! I love this video of Lando, who hasnt had the pleasure of working vehicles before. Vehicles are unique in that you have a distinct air flow under the vehicle. Watch here how he has a change of behaviour on the opposite side of the horse float - all valuable information to us handlers. He is such an incredible wee searcher - would you believe we havent trained on any vehicles before?!

04.01.2022 And it was Rustys first scent work lesson (his humans had done some preliminary conditioning). Such a clever boy!
