06.01.2022 Rigid Flat Feet? When assessing patients with flat feet, particularly the paediatric foot. If the foot, particularly the rear foot is fixed or rigid, something more complex maybe present and further in-depth investigation should be carried out in recent months I have had a few children present with markedly painful flat feet that have been treated unsuccessfully for many years solely with orthotics. When the foot is rigid and non-reducible radiographs are essential with possible MRI or CT. All these cases had undiagnosed tarsal coalitions and responded very well to excision of the coalition. If you have any queries regarding a patient this brings to mind, please feel free to contact me. #update

03.01.2022 Bunion surgery is typically carried out once the bunion becomes painful, begins to damage the rest of the foot, is painful when wearing shoes or is starting to impact on your daily activities. Bunion surgery in the past was painful and would often only produce a temporary fix. With modern bunion surgery, this is now not the case, and hence it is usually best to correct the bunion before it damages the rest of the foot.
