19.01.2022 Aussie consumers have been wondering when the $100-115 in bill savings that the National Energy Guarantee will likely materialise. Our current view is that they wont. The Energy Security Board's letter to Minister Frydenberg last week offered one critical sentence: ... "It is expected that following the guarantee could lead to a reduction in residential bills in the order of $100-115 per annum over the 2020-2030 period". Our observations are: 1) It is expected expectations are a strong belief that something will happenso, were seeing that the savings within the NE-Guarantee, are not guaranteed, just something that may occur.unless of course the expectations are not met. 2) .could lead to a reduction in residential bills.. could provides the caveat that we should all be fearful of. 3) .in the order of. A little like give or take and aroundabouts 4) .over the 2020-2030 period. Were assuming that the $100+ savings is not every year..over wise wed see a $1000+ energy bill reduction over 10 years (which would be fantastic but only really possible with Solar and Battery), so were saying that well see a reduction of $100+ delivered in aggregate within a 10 year time frame, which starting point is over 2 years awayhmmmmmm We appear to be left with a set of recommendations that will most likely provide a better foundation for security and reliability. In the meantime theres an price differential of over $400 between the best and worst deals available in the energy market for a residential customer. And all consumers need to do is ask for a discount or switch (https://www.energybilldoctor.com.au/) Read the letter here: http://www.coagenergycouncil.gov.au//Energy%20Security%20B

04.01.2022 After this windfall, the NSW Premier needs to match the Budget commitment to support pensioners through the unprecedented price hike this 1st July with a one-off payment of $75 for singles and $125 for couples. If you want to help ensure vulnerable pensioners can keep their lights and heating on this winter, write to the Premier on her page Gladys Berejiklian or tweet @GladysB with #MatchtheBudget.

04.01.2022 The Victorian Government has committed $8.1 million towards reducing energy bills for vulnerable Victorian households by making their homes more energy efficient. They will also spend $1 million to update the Victorian Energy Compare website. While the website needs much improvement, we believe that spending $1 million is excessive and could be better spent educating consumers. It's not enough to have these tools available if no one knows they exist. More of the Budget shoul...d be committed to informing consumers that: 1. Rates can vary wildly from year to year with a given retailer and energy companies can change the rate without consumer permission. 2. They should be checking their electricity rates every 6 months to ensure they are not paying too much. 3. Switching to a provider with a cheaper rate can help mitigate energy price rises 4. Social support such as this Home Energy Assist package are available 5. There are many things they can do themselves to make their home more energy efficient https://goo.gl/WiFPUC
