23.01.2022 Hey Canberra This weekend we've changed some of our #COVID19 restrictions. With no active COVID-19 cases in the ACT right now, were in a good position. But i...ts not a race to lift restrictions and were not going to move too early or take unnecessary risks. We know the essential public health measures over the past few weeks have put a strain on the wellbeing of many Canberrans. We're ensuring that as we respond to the pandemic, restrictions are sustainable for the long term. With this in mind, we've made some small low risk changes to support Canberra families and our economy. From today 2 May 2020, the following is allowed: You can leave your home for non-essential shopping purposes to support retail stores Members of one household can visit another household (where there are no other visitors present) just in time for Mothers Day! You can travel to NSW to visit family and friends, but not for holiday or recreational purposes this means no surfing on the south coast. Physical distancing and good hand and respiratory hygiene must always be practised. Further work is continuing at the National Cabinet. More information is expected next Friday 8 May 2020. Got a question on the changes? Visit our 'FAQs on Easing Restrictions' page https://bit.ly/COVID-19-FAQs-Restrictions

22.01.2022 To keep our FAA page going, past photos of FAA family/friends will be put up...lets reminisce.

17.01.2022 Special Message to Fijian workers in Australia under the Seasonal Workers Program and Pacific Labour Scheme: Ni sa bula vinaka! As we take time over this Easter... holiday weekend to reflect on the liberating spiritual power of the crucifixion, death, burial and resurrection of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, we are doing so under the heavy burden of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, COVID-19. All of you would be spending this Easter away from the familiar surroundings of your immediate families, friends and communities in Fiji. It is especially trying times for all of us as this crisis has imposed unprecedented travel and movement restrictions on all countries and people everywhere. In particular, our thoughts are with those of you who may have been looking forward to returning home to be with your families in Fiji at the end of your work arrangement but are now prevented from doing so anytime soon due to the current restrictions. To assist all Pacific workers who are affected by the ongoing travel restrictions, we are sharing with you the following information and advice from the Australian Government. This is applicable to those currently in Australia under the Seasonal Worker Program (SWP) and Pacific Labour Scheme (PLS), whose visas are expiring and who are unable to return home. You can apply for new subclass 408 and 403 visas respectively. This will enable you to remain lawfully in Australia and to continue working here for up to 12 months. Workers seeking further information are encouraged to speak with your Approved Employer in the first instance. You can also: call the SWP hotline on 02 6240 5234 or email [email protected], or call the Pacific Labour Facility on 07 3557 7750 or email [email protected] Further information is available on the Department of Home Affairs website at https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/staying-australia#13 and https://covid19.homeaffairs.gov.au/frequently-asked-questio. 11.01.2022 Friends of the FAA Latest update. Please stay safe!... There have been 3 new cases of COVID-19 recorded in the ACT in the past 24 hours. This brings the ACTs total to 111. The three individuals are one female and two males aged in their 20s. Two of the individuals arrived in the ACT from a Melbourne hotspot on Thursday 2 July 2020 and the other is a household contact. A small number of close contacts have been identified and are being managed in accordance with the National Guidelines. Prior to being tested, the three individuals had visited the Fyshwick Markets on Saturday 4 July between 3pm and 4pm and Westfield Belconnen on Monday 6 July between 12pm and 12:30pm. ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Kerryn Coleman said the risk to the broader community was low, however anyone who attended these locations during these times should be vigilant and monitor themselves for symptoms. We are confident the risk to the broader ACT community is low, Dr Coleman said. However this is a very important reminder of the ongoing pandemic and the risk posed by the outbreak currently evolving in Melbourne. Anyone who has been in Melbourne in the past two weeks should monitor themselves for symptoms and be vigilant. From 12.01am today, the ACT has closed its borders for anyone travelling into the ACT from Victoria, unless you have an exemption to enter. ACT residents are approved to return to their home, subject to entering quarantine for a period of 14 days, from the day after leaving Victoria. ACT residents must notify ACT Health of their intention to enter the ACT. Details on how to this are available on the COVID-19 website. We will be checking compliance in partnership with ACT Policing. Anyone with COVID-19 symptoms should attend one of our testing centres to be tested. This is why we have implemented new Public Health Directions that restrict travel to the ACT from Victoria. It is also a critical reminder that no one should be travelling to Victoria except for absolutely essential reasons, said Dr Coleman. Do not travel to Victoria for any reason other than absolutely essential purposes. Once you return to the ACT, you will be required to quarantine for 14 days. We again ask Canberrans to remember four requirements in any situation they face in the coming weeks: 1. Avoid large crowds; 2. Keep 1.5 metres apart whenever possible; 3. Continue good hand and respiratory hygiene; and 4. Stay home if you are unwell and get tested if you are experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms. The ACT Government also has a helpline to assist Canberrans through the challenges of COVID-19. The COVID-19 Helpline is 02 6207 7244 and open between 8am and 8pm daily. People who are concerned and want further information on the virus, can also call the Australian Governments Coronavirus Health Information Line on 1800 020 080. The line operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. www.covid19.act.gov.au

11.01.2022 Were not afraid to keep saying this over and over againwe need your help to stop the spread of disease! As were seeing in New South Wales and Victoria, the ...COVID-19 pandemic is far from over. Its as important as ever to do your bit to protect yourself and others. Wash your hands regularly (use hand sanitiser if soap and water is not available and your hands arent visibly dirty). Cover your cough with a tissue or the inside of your elbow. Stay 1.5 metres apart from others. No hugging, no kissing, no shaking hands with people outside your household. Avoid close contact with sick people. Stay home if you're unwell. Try not to touch your face. Clean frequently touched surfaces. Continue to work from home if possible. Get tested if you have COVID-19 symptoms no matter how mild. Download the COVIDSafe app to help with contact tracing www.covidsafe.gov.au. covid19.act.gov.au | 02 6207 7244 | #COVID19

11.01.2022 Bula everyone. Hope you having a lovely weekend. Photos from Fiji Day 2012 shared by the Irava family. 10.01.2022 Vinaka Vakalevu Dr Simone Nalatu for your Amazing service Mo ni kalougata ka tu dei.

09.01.2022 Important notice for all who live in Australia. From the Department of Health, Australian Government

09.01.2022 ACT COVID-19 update (20 July 2020) Cases today: 0 (3 active cases) Test results (past 24 hours): 501 Negative tests: 42,391 Total cases: 113... Recovered: 107 Lives lost: 3 ACT Chief Health Officer Dr Kerryn Coleman has advised that from 12 noon today, 20 July 2020 anyone who attended the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club on Monday 13 July, Wednesday 15 July, Thursday 16 July and Friday 17 July will be legally required to self-quarantine immediately for 14 days from the date of their visit. We also strongly recommend anybody who visited Batemans Bay Soldiers Club on the above dates get tested for COVID-19, and contact ACT Health for advice so they can be supported in their quarantine. Even if you test negative you are still required to self-quarantine until 14 days from the date of your visit at the Soldiers Club. With many Canberrans returning from the south coast after the school holidays we are keen to ensure anyone who has been in this location on the dates specified by NSW Health follows the advice to self-quarantine and get tested. Contact the COVID-19 Helpline on (02) 6207 7244 if you have attended the Soldiers Club last week. ACT Health is working closely with its NSW counterparts to contact trace anyone in the club over those days but I would urge anyone who has not yet been contacted and was in the Club to follow this advice. Anyone who was not at the club but holidaying in Batemans Bay is asked to be vigilant with their health and to get tested if they have any symptoms of COVID-19, no matter how mild. A reminder that symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, sore throat and shortness of breath. Less common symptoms are loss of smell, loss of taste, runny nose, muscle pain, joint pain, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and loss of appetite. We are in a strong position in the ACT at the moment but we all need to work together as a community to ensure it stays that way, Dr Coleman said. The situation is rapidly evolving so it is important any Canberrans who have been travelling in New South Wales recently to monitor the latest NSW Health advice. Even for those people who have stayed in the ACT during this holiday period, I remind you to stay vigilant, practice physical distancing and good hygiene practices, and get tested if you have any symptoms. Canberrans are reminded that a Public Health Direction is in place for a number of locations in NSW. This Direction legally requires anyone who has been in some of the affected locations identified by NSW Health, to self-quarantine for 14 days from the date they were there, even if they do not have any symptoms. At this time, these locations are: Batemans Bay Soldiers Club Monday 13 July, Wednesday 15 July to Friday 17 July Crossroads Hotel in Casula between Friday 3 July to Friday 10 July. Planet Fitness in Casula between Saturday 4 July and Friday 10 July. Picton Hotel in Picton on Saturday 4 July, Sunday 5 July, Thursday 9 July or Friday 10 July. People who visited these locations on the specified dates are asked to get in contact with ACT Health through the COVID-19 Helpline on 02 6207 7244 so we can support individuals through their quarantine. These people are also encouraged to get tested for COVID-19 even if they have no symptoms. This Public Health Direction is available here https://bit.ly/3he1UJm In addition to the above legal direction, the ACT Government also strongly advises anyone who has visited locations identified by NSW Health to follow the advice being provided by the New South Wales authorities. The situation is rapidly evolving, so keep up to date the latest NSW Health Advice. ACT residents are reminded not to travel to areas where COVID-19 outbreaks are occurring in NSW. covid19.act.gov.au | 02 6207 7244 | #COVID19

02.01.2022 Bula vinaka friends of the FAA, In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the FAA has made a decision to cancel all events planned for 2020. This includes the FAA annual flagship event- the Island Night and Fiji Day 2020. ... The Executive FAA team and Fijian Community leaders of Canberra met yesterday. The team strongly agreed that this decision is duty of care to our community. Based on information provided by the Australian Government, it is not prudent to continue with planning the events as all our energies currently needs to be diverted to keeping our family and loved ones safe, working alongside all other Australians to help bring control to the virus. The FAA will keep you informed should we be blessed with the oportunity towards the end of the year to catch up. In the meantime lets uplift and remember each other in prayer.
