24.01.2022 Has Someone Setup The AED??? Having a AED at your workplace is one of the greatest investments, but have you opened it and set it up? Yesterday during an onsite class we went searching for the it’s somewhere here defib to allow all students to know how to check it is working and that the pads are not expired. After assuming it was not working due to the indicator light not flashing we discovered that no one had actually turned it on and activated the device since they ...had it.....the pads had also expired 4 years ago! Please make sure that staff are aware of: 1) The location of the AED 2) How to tell if it is working 3) How to check the expiry dates on the pads

19.01.2022 There has been some concerns about the ongoing delivery of First Aid training during COVID-19. Specific concerns have also been raised about the transmission of the virus while performing ventilations on mannikins. The potential for transmission of the virus is significantly reduced if proper infection control procedures are followed, which involves excluding anyone who shows symptoms of the virus. F.A.S.T VIC complies with the Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare (2019) and support the use of resuscitation barriers and other PPEs as required. Additional precautions will also be taken including social distancing requirements and no equipment sharing.

08.01.2022 Frequently asked question: Do you do those quick 20 minute assessments that other providers do? Frequently provided answer: Is 20 minutes enough time for you to gain the skills and knowledge to be able to save a life? Don’t get me wrong - we have gone above and beyond to keep our students and staff safe. We have massively reduced our class sizes, there is absolutely no sharing of equipment, we follow all of the COVID-19 safe workplace recommendations AND we have reduced... our class time..just not to 20 minutes! Every class I take I ask one important question - has anyone ever had to do CPR in real life? It surprises me how many students say yes. When I ask who to, the most common answer is someone they knew or loved. So again, is 20 minutes justifiable? Or would you prefer to leave knowing you know how to help someone in need?
