25.01.2022 September is #ChildhoodCancerAwarenessMonth. Every year, 950 Aussie kids are diagnosed with cancer. Ella is one of those kids. First diagnosed with blood cancer when she was almost two years old, Ella has been fighting this insidious disease for more than a decade. Ella has suffered through four relapses and a horror list of treatment including chemo, radiation, a bone marrow transplant and Car T Cell therapy. Through it all Ella has shown strength and courage far beyo...nd her years. We are delighted to share Ella is slowly but surely winning her fight against cancer. After relapsing in February, and receiving intensive treatment for the last four months, Ellas 90 day test results are perfect. Zero B cells in her body. No leukaemia in her spinal fluid. No leukaemia in her bone marrow. We cant think of a better way to mark the first day of Childhood Cancer Awareness month than to celebrate Ellas latest victory. #CCAM2020 #childhoodcancer #GoGold #GoGoldforKids See more

24.01.2022 We need you to fight for families, like the Stuarts, this Christmas. After a four year battle with leukaemia, Will’s last chance was experimental treatment. The Stuarts waited 3 months to find out if Will got into the trial, and when they received the call right before Christmas, they had about 12 hours to get on a plane to Melbourne. When the family had to scramble to Melbourne, any chance they had of a ‘normal’ Christmas at home was dashed. Plans were cancelled, Christ...mas presents were left under the tree. Thankfully, the Stuarts could stay at one of our accommodation centres during Will’s lifesaving treatment...and importantly, stay together at Christmas. 23.01.2022 Antoinette has been volunteering with Fight Cancer Foundation for the last few months, providing support to our Communications and Campaigns team. Having the opportunity to volunteer my spare time with Fight Cancer Foundation in a marketing communications context has been such a privilege, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. I wanted the chance to give back and continue supporting people living with cancer and their families in any way possible since experiencing ...loved ones go through the process themselves. 22.01.2022 Fight Cancer Foundations Board of Directors, staff and volunteers are deeply saddened by the passing of Mrs Elizabeth (Betty) Benson. Betty, always accompanied by her husband Cliff, was an integral and much-loved member of the Fight Cancer Foundation family. As Fight Cancer Foundations longest serving volunteer, Betty was involved in a variety of Foundation activities including our Geelong and Drysdale recycle shops, community fundraising and relief after-hours caretaker of our North Melbourne accommodation centre. Betty was also a founding member of our Leukaemia Family Support Group. Bettys passion, kindness and wicked sense of humour will be sorely missed. Our heartfelt condolences to Cliff and the entire Benson family.

21.01.2022 When he was diagnosed, they told us Will had a 78% chance of survival. That would drop to 30% if he had a relapse, and 12% on a second. If you relapse a third time, the chances of survival are zero. When Will relapsed the third time, they told us we had a choice... focus on his quality of life and see him out. Or do another fight. We chose to fight. The Stuarts called one of our accommodation centres home while Will was fighting for his life. Fight Cancer Foundation and their supporters gave us the ability to stay together right where we needed to be something we couldn’t have otherwise done. Please fight alongside other families like the Stuarts this Christmas by donating today: http://bit.ly/FCFDonate

20.01.2022 Meet Leni, a proud Hawthorn Football Club fan and the newest addition to our #FootyColoursDay ambassador lineup! Leni was diagnosed with cancer when she was eight years old, and endured nine months of aggressive chemotherapy, lumbar punctures, blood transfusions and more. During this time Leni was absent from her regular school. To ensure she didnt fall behind she was enrolled in our education support program at The Royal Childrens Hospital, Melbourne.... The teacher support was amazing. It allowed Leni to still be involved with school and not fall too far behind her peers. They kept her brain from being lazy and the program educators made it fun. 17.01.2022 Keeping kids with cancer engaged with their education during their treatment and recovery is no small feat. Luckily, our education support program is staffed with some incredible and supportive educators, like Trisha. Trisha began working as a fulltime educator at the Sydney Childrens Hospital Randwick in September 2015. Fight Cancer Foundations education support program makes a real difference to the lives of children with cancer by keeping them educationally connec...ted with their learning and socially connected with their school and peers whilst they are undergoing treatment. My favourite part of this job is the connection with patients and their families. Having an impact on someones future is very rewarding Trisha told us. 16.01.2022 It’s not too late to donate to our Christmas appeal to fight alongside children living with cancer, like Will. This time last year Will was receiving life-saving, experimental treatment thousands of kilometers from home. Thankfully, he and his family were able to call one of our accommodation centres home during this time. Will’s dad Marcus told us how much having a safe, comfortable place to live meant to his family.... It was such a relief. It was amazing. Vicky, the manager, was just salt of the earth. A heart of gold. It was private, spacious and gave us the security and the comfort we needed. And it was in a brilliant location. Please help other children living with cancer, like Will by donating today: http://bit.ly/FCFDonate

16.01.2022 Part 1 of Eleanor's story, as told by her mum Meredith. We first started to feel something was wrong with Eleanor when it seemed she was losing her sparkle.... Shed always been a bright, bubbly girl, but that seemed to be slipping away. When Eleanor woke screaming from strong tummy pains two nights in a row, we knew something was seriously wrong, and immediately took her to Emergency. It was cancer. When you receive the diagnosis, its all a complete shock. You are not prepared to hear those words especially about your child. From that moment, youre on a bullet train, straight into intense chemotherapy treatment. There is no time to think. Theres no time to process it. Read more: bit.ly/EleanorsStory See more

15.01.2022 Kat is a volunteer member of our Red Ball Melbourne event committee, and her connection with Fight Cancer Foundation goes back to the late 80s. When they were unsuccessful, her family helped establish the BMDI Cord Blood Bank in Australia to make finding a donor easier for future transplant patients. Im involved with Fight Cancer Foundation for pe...rsonal reasons, given what my family and I went through with my brothers battleI know what its like, how hard it can getLives can be turned upside down, but there doesnt always have to have a sad ending.
