12.01.2022 ANNOUNCEMENT This is me taking a leap. I love electronic music. Like really f**king love it.... From Techno to Hardstyle, Riddim to DnB, UK Bassline to G-House and everything in between it doesn’t matter what’s playing, you can always catch me losing my mind. However, having this love for many genres has put me in a weird situation as I make this transition into becoming a DJ. After sending my mixes to a range of artists/promoters/club bookers/labels etc., I’ve noticed a very common trend with the feedback coming back to me... Because my mixes vary in sound so much from each other, most people end up being a little confused as to who I am/what genre I actually play. Even with venues that I’ve been booked for, I’ve always found myself asking them what genre they actually want me to play. It’s made me realise that I’ve tried to appeal to absolutely everyone, because I’m so damn hungry to just get my name out there. Unfortunately it’s come at the cost of being just another DJ. After speaking with people within the industry, it’s opened my eyes that if I want to make it (WHICH I REALLY F**KING DO!!), I need to pick a specific sound and stick with it. So that’s exactly what I’ve been trying to figure out for the past few months. The only issue is picking a sound that I love more than the rest. How I am supposed to pick what to cut out?! Each genre is so special in it’s own right. This was never going to be an easy choice for me. But after quite a bit of time thinking about this, weighing up genres/sounds/vibes, what I want to get out of this etc.I’ve made the decision. This is me officially announcing that from here on out, FOUL PLAY will be a Bass House artist. Think JOYRYDE/ Habstrakt/ Wax Motif/ Ephwurd kind of vibes. There’s just something so so special about this sound that gets my spine tingling in ways I didn’t know possible. It’s the sound that drives my passion for music the most, and that’s what’s most important to me. Now this doesn’t mean that I’m never going to play tech house or trap etc. again, I’m just saying that I’m taking inspiration from the above artists, and will be heavily influenced by their ways. Who knows, maybe I’ll be lucky enough to produce a track with one of them one day I want people to look at that flyer and know that when they see FOUL PLAY, that they’re in for a night of that deep juicy bassy goodness The only thing is bass house isn’t exactly the biggest genre in Australian clubs at the moment; so this pathway is going to cut out so many opportunities for me...hence why I’m saying this is a leap of faith. But at the end of the day, I’m so excited to start building my name, my brand, my sound, with all of you as my day one support. If you’re still reading this, thank you for taking the time to see what’s on my mind See you on the dance floor. Much love, Tay
