23.01.2022 The cold is here, with a further extreme temperature drop expected over the weekend. This means people sleeping rough will be struggling. Some will not make it.... If you see someone you think needs help, please text 0468 330 613 and a volunteer will head to the location with a rough-sleepers aid kit. (and yes more blankets, hats and scarves are needed!!! so please SHARE this post so we can collect as much as we can. We are doing patrols most evenings to ensure our friends on the street have as much warmth and food as possible.) See more

20.01.2022 "Freeing your spirit, spreading your intellect and sharing your ideas."

20.01.2022 "We have the freedom to believe in what we want, speak our minds, think for ourselves and love who we want, in this beautiful country."

19.01.2022 Finalist # 2 is Michelle with her wonderful entry. In Michelles words: I think freedom to me comes very much from my mind. Almost everything starts from your mind, so freedom is in what we think, and sometimes in what others think. In picturing what freedom means to me, where I grew up, the places I have lived, the people I have met, and what I have learnt are all part of what makes Freedom Freedom is in finding people you care about that make your life worth living, h...aving the opportunity to go to good schools and unis, sleeping in on the weekend, catching up with friends, taking my dogs on walks without seeing a single person, or doing nothing for a day. It is small things (that are also big things) that make up freedom (to me). My artwork shows the meaning of freedom in that moving to the city was the change that made my life be able to have all the things in it that is does today. It shows someone elses can turn into mine. Freedom is my choice to change, and it gives me reason to trust. What freedom means to me is changing, re formulating in my mind. 10 years ago freedom meant not this. Today my freedom means questioning myself, others, and the world. It is showing who I am, but not all of me. It is being ok.

19.01.2022 Great news for Sunshine, with the announcement of the Airport Rail Link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vGa3C_xHOY

17.01.2022 Finalist # 4 is Rachel with this wonderful image. In Rachels words: Well, freedom is to me many things. I love dandelions and still pick them as an adult. I recently lost both of my grandmothers but both of them struggled in their lives so that I and others could live a better life, so that I had the freedom to pick dandelions (and think they were butterflies). However, this is not an uncommon trait, both sides of my family have struggled and fought for others as well as th...eir own. Im the great grandchild of early pioneers, of light horseman and bush nurses (one who worked at Queen Victoria Hospital Melbourne, directly helping with babies from migrant families). One the first white women in the Kiewa Valley, who following the potato famine came to Australia spending six months on a bullock dray traveling from Sydney to the Victorian border. Which back then was made harder by the fact they were Irish Catholic families living under English Protestant rule. So freedom to me means following in the footprints of strong women but being equally allowed to follow my own path and about being fiercely independent and scattering dandelions to the wind. 13.01.2022 Finalist # 9 is Lola with this fascinating entry. In Lolas words: My entry depicts freedom as freedom of mind and thought. Freeing your spirit, spreading your intellect and sharing your ideas. My inspiration came from my dad. The lightbulb represents a mind, full of ideas and buzzing with intelligence while being supported with calm. The Japanese symbol "enso", depicting a sense of Zen as the mind is free to let the body create.

13.01.2022 Finalist # 10, our final top ten entrant is Tsambika with this beautiful imaging of freedom. In Tsambikas words: Gender equality gave me the inspiration for my picture. The woman represents people fighting for equality (a non-racial figure) who will eventually turn the key and let people free.

12.01.2022 Finalist # 5 is Rachel with this evoking image called Purest Form of Joy & Freedom. In Rachels words: The girl portrayed in this drawing is a member of the Maasai tribe, one of the last indigenous African tribes thriving in East Africa. What fascinated me about this culture was the preserved and conservative nature that the Maasai tribe uphold after all these years. However, it is known that in this region along with many other parts of the world, women were seen as second-...class citizens, despite being the very backbone of the Maasai society. The Maasai tribe stretches out onto the land of Samburu, a place where women were subject to little to no rights, struggling to live with what men called tradition, the Maasai women took a stand for their freedom. A group of strong women were able to come together and form the first no men village. This was a statement that marked a stand for justice towards oppression against women. They are also such a beautiful expression of art in themselves. They sell their handmade jewelry to raise funds to facilitate for women who are seeking refuge and freedom, including kids who are escaping child marriage. Its a specific example of a communitys fight for freedom, but its just a slight variation of what is happening around the world to this day. There are so many stories similar to this. I wanted to capture all the emotions I felt learning about the Maasai women and interpret that into this portrait hoping it would do justice in representing the freedom and joy they have fought to find. 07.01.2022 Finalist # 3 is Isabelle with this fabulous entry. In Isabelles words: Freedom is walking down the street and being confidently yourself. It is that special feeling, where you are connected and open to the world around you. I created this artwork to try and capture that feeling. I used the mannequin figure as an representation of all people, races, genders, sexualities and ages. The figure is walking freely down High street, Preston an exciting area full of multicultural sh...ops and restaurants. I wanted to keep the design minimal to really capture that sense of expansiveness. I want it to inspire people that when you have freedom, the world opens up to you in amazing ways.

06.01.2022 So excited to have hosted our second Sunshine Schools Circus Excursion on our Sunshine site. Big thanks to @EronisCircus and all the kids that came along.

06.01.2022 ... and the winner of the Graphite Preston Freedom Wall comp is Rachel with her stunning portrait. Congratulations Rachel; we cant wait to work with you!! Grace Art Collections

04.01.2022 Finalist #6 is Carina with this vibrant image. In Carinas words: To me, freedom is drawn from being at ease. The artwork I created was intended to depict that. Themes I wished to incorporate was being one with the natural environment and really embracing all your surroundings. The ability to create, love and share what means the most to you in your own community is truly what freedom means for me. Having opportunities and endless possibilities is what so many others miss out on and this diminished human dignity is something I could never really attempt to capture. Overall the artwork is inspired from the gratitude I have for opportunities like these.

03.01.2022 Finalist # 7 is Lizzie with these incredibly detailed images. In Lizzies words: My artwork is centred around the freedom we have to express ourselves, and be individuals. We have the freedom to believe in what we want, speak our minds, think for ourselves and love who we want, in this beautiful country. I thought using the symbols of faith, speech, thought and love would be an interesting way to portray this concept. I also drew people all of different ethnicities, all uniq...ue in their experiences, free under the Australian sun. Freedom means to me that I have the potential to achieve my aspirations, my only limit being myself. Freedom means to me that together as a nation, we can all feel at ease with who we are, and feel confident in our individuality. My artwork revolves around the concept that everyone is Free To Be Individual. I was sketching out possible concepts, and an image of myself holding my hands under my face, cupped like a love heart shape popped into my mind. Referencing a selfie I had taken earlier, I drew the image, trying to involve many colours to liven the piece. I was inspired by Australias acceptance of everyone, and wanted to depict the freedoms of our multicultural nation. The image of different people all staring towards the future is quite diverse, as I want all of my audience to relate to the theme of freedom.

03.01.2022 "The myriad of different people from all walks of life interact freely with each other amongst the trees and the animals and have a sense of truly being in the right place; for me, this is happiness and this is freedom."

02.01.2022 "Freedom is walking down the street and being confidently yourself."

01.01.2022 Congratulations to the wonderful Michelle who took out the "Peoples Choice" award on the night for her incredible image.

01.01.2022 Finalist #8 is Camilla with this wonderful entry. In Camillas words: To me, freedom means being able to be exactly who you are. It means being one with nature, and one with each other. The sketched people in the image are harmonious with the eucalyptus trees behind, symbolising the omnipotence and joyful ubiquity of the natural landscape and how we are really, simply, all part of it ourselves. ... The myriad of different people from all walks of life interact freely with each other amongst the trees and the animals and have a sense of truly being in the right place; for me, this is happiness and this is freedom.
