11.01.2022 A WARNING FROM CENTRAL COAST OUTRIGGERS for Brisbane Water Hi everyone We had an incident this morning after our paddling session. While walking around the canoe, a paddler unknowingly picked up a small speckled brown octopus swimming in the shallows, showing it to others. I looked at it and immediately recognised the traits of a Blue ringed octopus as it started to turn electric blue in spots VERY quickly and told our paddler to get rid of it pronto which he did, thankfu...lly !! It was only because I recently listened to a radio program talking about the fact that there is quite a high volume of blue ringed octopus in the Brisbane Waters area more than people realise. Our paddler narrowly avoided a life threatening outcome PLEASE BE AWARE and try not to pick up any ‘interesting’ fauna out of the water unless you have good reason to do so.
