24.01.2022 Calling all froggers! 6-15 November is FrogID Week - Australia’s biggest frog count. Whether you visit your local creek, pond, nature reserve, or your own ba...ckyard every recording of a frog call contributes to the FrogID team’s research. The data obtained during FrogID Week allows researchers to gain an ‘audioshot’ of Australia’s frogs each year. It helps researchers measure frog health and their distribution around Australia, and how this may have changed over time. Our amphibian friends also play a key role in Australian ecosystems. Observing frog populations can give us a good indication of ecosystem health as frogs are sensitive to environmental change. It’s easy to get involved and the FrogID app is free to download. Head over to the FrogID webpage to learn more: https://portal.frogid.net.au/frog-id-week : Green and Golden Bell Frog (Litoria aurea) Stephen Mahoney (Australian Museum)

23.01.2022 Hi everyone! I am currently a grade 12 student looking at the biophysical and human impacts that affect the density and distribution of bird-life within Casuarina Coastal Reserve. As part of my investigation, I have put together a short survey. If you have the time could I please ask you to take a few minutes to submit your responses as it would help me greatly? I have attached the link below. Thank you in advance! regards Kait Flaherty https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSd4yyOB86dfnAeze/viewform

21.01.2022 Help look after our beautiful Cas Reserve.

20.01.2022 Shorebirds are site faithful - posting this to give you an idea of the journeys taken by shorebirds that fly each year to our Darwin wet season shores. Amazing birds! Give them some space as they recover condition for the return journey.

20.01.2022 Strong evidence here these birds are site faithful. They return to the same place each year. What happens to their populations when their regular sites are disturbed or destroyed?

19.01.2022 Get ready to count your local bird diversity.

17.01.2022 Casuarina with its splendid biodiversity is a really lovely place for a long nature-basking walk. Let's hope the impacts of fire, the unkempt weeds and feral animals, not to mention even more encroaching development, don't damage it too much. Where are your favourite places to see in Casuarina?

17.01.2022 The CCR Landcare group made a difference at the Moth Block this morning. We collected another ute-load of Senna (Candle Bush) seed pods before they opened and did some fine work freeing tiny self-sown paperbark seedlings and small Carallia trees from being smothered under Centro and Calopo vines. Thanks everyone. Our next working bee is likely to be a watering session on Sunday 16th August, so if you'd like to join us look out for details on this page.

17.01.2022 Thanks to the 24 people who helped clean up along Sandy Creek last Sunday. We collected 38 bags of rubbish including a pile of used oil filters, a fresh lemon and an abandoned crab trap in the creek. Thanks to the park rangers who took it all to the tip.

16.01.2022 An absolute luck! As quarantine lockdown starts again, i just found this lovely Eurasian Scop's Owl which is singing in my garden. A warm welcoming start. Watch full of it for some relaxation on youtube.

16.01.2022 A donation from Bendigo Bank for wire and star pickets and good work by Andris, Jim and Dirk has fixed the fence line at the Beach re-vegetation site. This light fence discourages people from walking through the area and unwittingly spreading caltrop, Mossman River and Khaki weed.

14.01.2022 More amazing journeys, wondering how the thousands of migratory shorebirds on Lee Pt/ Buff Ck Beach make their way here each year...

14.01.2022 This morning there were more turtle tracks near Dripstone Cliffs (the second nest so far this year). Rangers found 55 Flatback turtle eggs and will keep them safe from dogs, goannas and people until they hatch. Then they'll be released back to sea from the same beach. If you see turtle tracks call Parks and Wildlife's Wildlife Rescue 1800 453 941.

13.01.2022 The Environment Centre has a limited place private excursion fundraiser experience. Stroll the peaceful beauty of the Casuarina's beachside, mangroves and coastal monsoon rainforest, whilst learning from lovely experts about the incredible migratory birds, the elusive Atlas Moth, weeds, fire and other threats to local animals and plants. If you can't go, you can still donate to the ECNT to support their tireless efforts in environmental advocacy: https://www.ecnt.org.au/donate

12.01.2022 Help keep Casuarina beaches clean.

12.01.2022 I’m in total awe of these migratory shorebirds - would love to know the travel stories of the birds that use our Darwin beaches over the wet.

10.01.2022 Yesterday's weed expo at the Landcare Group's Moth Block was very worthwhile thanks to guest speakers Steve, Mark and Dave. Thanks also to the CDU Enviro collective for co-hosting this event with Casuarina Coastal Reserve Landcare Group. After the talks and ID walk volunteers bagged up a whole ute-load of Senna alata seed heads, well done everyone. The next Landcare working bee will be on Sunday 19th July so look out for details on this Friends of CCR site.

10.01.2022 Check out the birds flocking to Lee Pt - Buffalo Ck and see if any are wearing leg flags

09.01.2022 The new Minister for Parks and Rangers, Selena Uibo and the Local Member for Casuarina, Lauren Moss met with members of Rapid Creek and Casuarina Coastal Reserve Landcare Groups at the Beach re-vegetation site yesterday. The photo with this post is information for the Minister from volunteers at Sunday's working bee. CCR is a special place and we look forward to working with our representatives to make sure its natural values are protected.

08.01.2022 A Friend found a fresh sea turtle nest at Dripstone Cliffs this morning, Parks and Wildlife were called and retrieved 60 eggs.

08.01.2022 Keep an eye out for this plant on your walks please. We don’t need another invader.

05.01.2022 Pacific Golden Plovers also visiting Darwin and easily seen on Nightcliff Rocks around very high tides.

03.01.2022 One of the Friends of CCR supplied these amazing photos of the first Flatback Turtle eggs found on the beach this year. The rangers are keeping them safe until they hatch when they will be returned to the beach to swim into the Harbour and beyond. If you see turtle tracks call Parks and Wildlife's Wildlife Rescue 1800 453 941.

03.01.2022 Lee Pt-Buff Ck is home to resident Red-capped Plovers. These Wren-sized birds nest in the high tide debris. They lure walkers away from nests and hatchlings pretending to have a broken wing. Down south in SA and Victoria their cousins the Hooded Plover do the same. Great to see communities around Australia’s coasts looking after their shorebirds.

03.01.2022 Casuarina Coastal Reserve - such an interesting place to be!

02.01.2022 This is a great recent sighting.
