25.01.2022 PEPPER Such a pleasure to meet Pepper today! This lucky lady is 14 years young and looking so great for that age! She did have some matting on her coat though which is where I come in!... We did a clean up shave today, as well as a pedicure! As cats get older it gets harder for them to groom because they get stiff and sore and those hard to reach areas like their bottom and legs start to become matted. This is easily fixed with a hygiene groom which cleans up these areas and slows down the matting cycle. Hygiene grooms only need to be done once or twice a year to ensure your older kitty is comfortable and clean! So lovely to meet you Pepper

23.01.2022 I have the best clients I am unable to run my business at the moment due to covid but Im trying to do what I can. I leant some equipment to my client Lucas today to give his beautiful boy Onyx a well needed haircut. As a thank you he dropped off this box full of home grown goodies I would happily get paid in food for every job ... #pascoevale #ladole #furrandpurrvetnurse #vetnurse #adoptdontshop #veggies #homegrown

22.01.2022 I volunteered as a nurse for this wonderful organisation back in Feb! Such a great group people who work tirelessly to provide the best for these koalas. The bushfires arent on the news anymore but the effects are still present and will be for a long time yet!

22.01.2022 Bonnie This sweet girl had a nail trim and hair cut with us recently. I say haircut as she wasn't too keen on the electronic clippers so we went old school and used my trusty scissors With lots of treats and pats and encouragement from her brother Fergus, Bonnie was rid of her mats and oily coat in no time.... She was so sweet and still came over for pats and purrs after her salon finish Bonnie is excited that since our appointment I have invested in the quietest electronic clippers I can find on the market and am keen to try them out on patients like Bonnie to see if we can have the most pleasant consult possible! See you again soon Bonnie

22.01.2022 I think I own the most photogenic dragon in the world! #peneloperuth #beardeddragon #ladole #reptiles #vetnurse

22.01.2022 Ginge Ginge was just petsitting heaven, such a good girl! So timid around new people but she warmed up to me after just one day and we were soon watching the Dolly Parton tribute show together ... See you again soon Ginge ( affectionately known as Winge)!!

21.01.2022 Major Look at this Aristocat! Major is a beautiful Maine Coon, which is the largest domestic cat breed. He had a few mats which needed to be removed as well as a good brush and a nail trim. Major wasn't too keen on a brush but we did some positive reinforcement with some treats and a brush and he sat there very happily while he was treated to a nice massage.... Such a good boy and he will be much happier in the heat now. What a pleasure to meet such a beauty! #furr'n'purr #ladole #furrandpurrvetnurse #vetnurse #adoptdontshop #kitten#kittensofinstagram

21.01.2022 Working in a veterinary clinic means I get to make the most special bonds with others that love & care for animals as much as I do. It also brings with it heartache & sadness when animals pass and families lose their best friends. This song is called Rainbow Bridge.

21.01.2022 When Im not looking after your beautiful pets Im looking after these ones. Anyone with kids at home this junior zookeeper program is pretty fun and has lots of great content!

19.01.2022 August is DENTAL month for all our pets! Dental disease is a big issue for all pets, some of it is diet based, some is genetics and some is just bad luck. Fortunately there are little things you can do each day to help prevent the big procedure your pet will need to get rid of it. Dental diets, teeth brushing, even a tasteless liquid that is added to your pets water! Some of these you can buy from your vet , some you can do yourself at home and i can come and help you with all of these and do a full dental check and chart for your pet so you know which option is best for you. Send me a message today and we can fight dental disease together.

17.01.2022 My foster kitty is up for adoption!

17.01.2022 Welcome to the foster family, Sweetie! Sweetie is our new foster baby, she is an ex stray who has already had a litter of babies herself. She's really only a kitten herself and luckily was rescued by a lovely lady who has handed her into @second.chance.animal.rescue, where she has been desexed, wormed, flea'd and now fostered to us to get her used to a home environment.... Her name doesn't do her justice, she is such a sweet girl! It won't take her long to be ready for her furever home! For now I'm enjoying the cuddles and playtime! #secondchanceanimalrescue #adoptdontshop #ladole #furrandpurrvetnurse #vetnurse #foster #catsofinstagram

15.01.2022 Winnie had her full vet check and first lot of vaccinations today. A clean bill of health she is not officially a foster kitty and will be up for adoption soon! 15.01.2022 LOVE LOVE LOVE this representation!

15.01.2022 KAHLIA What a stunner! When this beautiful girl was adopted by her parents as a kitten, they were told she was a domestic short hair ... She is absolutely not a short hair and her wild maine was becoming a hygiene issue when Kahlia was trying to groom herself, she also had some mats in her armpits and around her back legs so her parents wanted to try their first Lion clip! She was an amazing patient, enjoyed some treats and some cuddles! We're hopeful this haircut will elimate her need for frequent hygiene trims for a good 6 months! Can't wait to see her progress P. S have you ever seen a more beautiful tail?

14.01.2022 Spring is just around the corner! This means lots of babies are being born :) Kittens , Possums , Birds you name it! This also means more wildlife is coming into care at shelters and carers homes. Lauren is not only a vet nurse and zookeeper but also a wildlife rescuer and carer. If you find a baby possum in your backyard or perhaps you dog or cat has found a helpless baby bird, you can always call Lauren for advice. Sometimes its better to leave the fury baby for its parents to handle, other times they will need instant help. All local vets can take wildlife for assessments so if ever unsure you can drop into your local vet for help. Lets help our local wildlife and keep an eye out for all the spring babies!

14.01.2022 Why Use a Vet Nurse? A vet nurse consultation is not an alternative to vet treatment. However sometimes you need that caring , nurturing attention that only a nurse can provide. A vet nurse will work along side your vet and vet instructions to provide care in your own home for all your pets needs. A pets new diagnosis can sometimes be complicated and scary , and vet dont always have the time to explain fully in a kind manner , thats where a nurse can help. A nurs...e can take the time to talk to you thoroughly about your new situation and help you manage the condition at home. Sometimes you need something done that doesnt warrant a car ride and a wait time such as a nail clip , hygienic groom or gland expression. Perhaps youre struggling to medicate your pet and need some guidance , short term or long term medications we can work together to make the experience quick and stress free for your pet. Nurses are all rounders we also do pet sitting and dog walking , knowing your pet is in the hands of a professional is a great feeling !

14.01.2022 Pet Names! This last week of so I have met so many pets with the most amazing names! Faerie dust... Yum Yum Noodle Franc Just to name a few! What's you're incredible pet name?

14.01.2022 Such an important story to tell!

13.01.2022 "We are not just Veterinary Nurses. We are educators, cleaners, consulting nurses, surgical nurses, medical nurses, anaesthesia nurses and emergency nurses. We are skilled and trained professionals!" - Leanne Prices #VNAM2020 poster #VetNurses #whatVNsdo http://ow.ly/jNRd50zMK32

13.01.2022 "Your stethoscope smells like other pets, nurse Lauren?!" FurrnPurr regular, Rocket, is very suspicious that he isnt the only kitty I have been visiting lately I dont have the heart to tell him hes right! My heart is big enough for all the pets of Melbourne Rocket, dont worry!

13.01.2022 HELP I'VE BEEN BIRD - NAPPED This beautiful juvenile currawong was dropped off at my clinic this morning. A concerned member of the public described him as an injured bird and swiftly threw her jumper over him, put him in a box and brought him into the vets. Now while the thought and quick action of this person is very caring, the problem is there is nothing wrong with this bird This is what a baby bird looks like... Some adult feathers, some fluffy down fea...thers. He was on the ground because he is learning to fly. I know it doesn't seem safe, but this is what they have to do to learn to become a big bird! We took the young currawong back to where he was found after a quick check over and some yummy insectivore mix, and to our delight his parents immediately flew down from their tree and fed him! Did you know that the parents are always watching over the youngens, feeding them and protecting them until they can fly? If you see a baby bird on the ground and are concerned, call wildlife Vic or your local vet for advice but unless it is obviously injured ( blood, bones or feathers around it) leave it alone.... It the natural progression of their life cycle. Another handy tip is to recreate a nesting environment for them off the ground, you can make a nest with hanging basket from. Bunnings or an ice cream tub filled with twigs and leaves. STOP BIRD-NAPPING

13.01.2022 Love seeing these two every fortnight for their ringworm bath! Combined with an antifungal medication, medicated shampoo baths can help soothe and reduce the presents of spores for animals with ringworm. I get to see these boys once a week/fortnight to give them a bath, and theyre such good boys! #lathahegde #adoptdontshop #ladole #furrandpurrvetnurse #vetnurse #adoptdontshop#kitten

12.01.2022 MARLOW What a beautiful girl! Maine Coons just have an energy about them.... Marlow had some mats under her arms we got rid of for her which should help keep her cooler and more comfortable over summer. Does your cat need some mats trimmed or nails done? Get in touch today

10.01.2022 Were so sorry to announce that we have been given some more information about the welfare grooming and it is a definite grey area. We risk a $20,000 fine if we are stopped and the person we speak to doesnt believe that trip is warranted. Very confusing and heart breaking as so many of you have reached out with valid welfare concerns. I would recommend calling your local vets and seeing who is available for a hygiene trim. Sorry for the inconvenience, we were trying to do the right thing but we will not be offering this service at this present time.

10.01.2022 This is whats happening during curbside vet visits. This is what happens when you leave your fur baby with the vet techs. We hold your babies. We baby talk the...m. We know they are scared without you. We comfort them Pets dont understand COVID restrictions, but they know you arent with them, so we step in to make the normally scary experience not be quite as traumatizing. Just know that when you drop them off at the door there is someone inside to love on them, hug them, and tell them that everythings going to be alright **this big boy is Axle and he was terrified of the clinic cats. While he was waiting patiently for his nails to be trimmed a kitty walked by and scared him. He climbed in my lap and asked me to hold him, I of course was happy to help** *Edit: WOAH! I had no idea this would be such a big deal. Thank you all for the sweet word. I hope that I have given you all some comfort**

09.01.2022 I just wanted to let you all know that I am aware of the practices going on at a Melbourne pound. In fact, I have been for some time now, and its something my... team and I have been working hard on, alongside representatives of the rescue community. The reality is - this is a sector-wide problem. While there are some shelters doing the right thing by their animals, many are still killing healthy, treatable animals. Even when rescue groups are ready and able to take them. Anxiety or behavioral problems should never, ever be a death sentence. And every animal should be given a chance of adoption, yet many are being killed immediately upon intake. Inside the halls of the Victorian Parliament, there are a range of things I am calling for. I am calling for mandatory reporting of kill statistics (with detailed reasons why) - pound management should never be able to hide this from the public, and transparency is one of the best ways to bring about change. I am calling for the law to be changed to make it illegal to kill an animal that a rescue group is willing to take. I am calling for low cost, subsidised and free desexing initiatives to reduce the amount of animals, particularly kittens, being surrendered in droves. Some like to say that no kill, or close to no kill, is a pipe dream. But there is precedent. The governments overseas who have enacted these rules have seen an enormous decrease in the amount of animals killed in shelters and pounds. Killing should be seen as the last option, rather than the easy option. The most important thing you can do right now is sign this e-petition, which I will be tabling in the Legislative Council in August: https://www.parliament.vic.gov.au//view-e-p/details/12/192

09.01.2022 Happy Sunday everyone! The very fashionable Coco and I hope you have a relaxing day and a great start to the week tomorrow! 07.01.2022 Missing my favourite animals in the whole world ! This time of year im usually getting prepared to spend a week or two at Tree Roo Rescue and Conservation Centre Ltd up in FNQ. Due to COVID im unable to travel up there this year and its breaking my heart. Lumholtz Tree Kangaroos are amazing , their cathemeral , they walk bipedally and they have a neurological blindness that is sweeping through their population. That is a lot of complicated words for one species ! Jump over ...to their website to learn more about these incredible creatures and hopefully i will see you all soon! * Cathemeral - Awake for burst during the day and at night , will move around and nap both during the day and at night. * Bipedal - Will walk forward and backwards ( Not just hop like kangaroos and wallabies) * Neurological blindness - A blindness that is caused from inside the brain. Dr. Karen Coombes PhD , is working hard to find the cause however its an ongoing battle. Almost all adults coming into care at TRRACC are blind and are getting hit by cars of attacked by dogs , however the joeys coming into care have their full sight. The rate of blind animals has dramatically increased over the last couple of years. To learn more about the blindness send me a message and i can point you towards the website or Facebook page.

07.01.2022 Look at that face! Coco was such a good girl for her bath, Clip, pedicure and flea treatment! She is definitely one of my favourite patients!... See you again soon Coco

06.01.2022 What did I do today??? I searched though a dogs vomit for the poo bag he had swollowed Not always a glamorous job but this could have turned into a foreign body and surgery in a couple of days if we hadnt had made the beautiful hound "Perry" vomit this afternoon. Notice the other plastic and bit of yarn he threw up as well..... Luckily his owner asked for advice after he saw him doggo eat the plastic bag and we instructed him to come in straight away!... I also answered the phone 100000 times, gave out hundreds of treats and pats, apologised 20 times for the wait and held the had of one lady who was saying goodbye to her friend of 15 years The days I spend back in a clinic are always full on and eventful..... Time for a cuppa and some kitty cuddles!

06.01.2022 Such a beautiful furry family! Had a lot of fun with these fluff balls, will be so happy to see them again

06.01.2022 The newest addition to the family! Everyone meet, Penelope Ruth the bearded dragon! We adopted Penelope ( Penny) after she was seized by DEWLP, she has a number of injuries including a missing leg, multiple missing toes and a missing tall tip, most likely bitten off by a territorial male.... Shes a very gentle soul and were so happy shes now a part of our household See more

05.01.2022 Does your kitty hate having their nails trimmed? Play with their little toe beans while they sleep, especially if you have a new kitten! This will desensitise them to having their feet touched and make trimming their nails so much easier! As you can see, Winnie doesnt mind at all ... #LashD #ladole #furrandpurrvetnurse #vetnurse #adoptdontshop #kitten #kittensofinstagram #winniechurchill

05.01.2022 Today is Ginger Cat Appreciation day! Here are some of my favourite ginger clients Did you know that 75% of ginger cats are males?... If you have a ginger cat at home give them some extra treats of cuddles today #ladole #furrandpurrvetnurse #vetnurse #adoptdontshop #kitten #kittensofinstagram #catsofinstagram #gingercatappreciationday #ginger

04.01.2022 We have new fosters!! Not being able to do appointments and only being able to work one job at a time ( Melbourne restrictions) means Im not at my clinic at the moment but still with my beloved Penguins part time. So I have a lot of time on my hands..... Which means one thing.... more foster kittens!!... This is Michelle ( black and white) and Rupert ( Grey and White) they are 9 weeks old, found abandoned in an industrial area when they were just 5 weeks old. Unfortunately their sister, died after only a couple of days in foster care. These guys have been through a tough road but are hitting all their milestones now and are so fun and playful. More kittens posts to follow #kitten #kittensofinstagram #catsofinstagram #furrandpurrvetnurse #vetnurse #adoptdontshop #ladole #manekineko

03.01.2022 Storm Oh this girl was just precious! I've never met such a playful, trusting greyhound!... Storm has black nails which gives most people a heart attach during nail clips.... I must admit that they're not the easiest to trim but there are some tips and tricks for making sure you don't cut them back too far! Lucky for me Storm was a star patient and her nails were done in a flash! ( Pardon all the storm jokes ) See you in March lovely girl!

03.01.2022 ITS TREE ROO AWARENESS WEEK! I have been lucky enough to do some nursing and a whole lot of zookeeping with these incredible animals, take 5 mins out of your day to learn some facts about Lumholtz Tree Kangaroos!

03.01.2022 My little foster girl, Winnie, was speyed yesterday. Shes doing really well, if it werent for her shaved belly you would have no idea she had surgery 24 hours ago!! A female pet is speyed while a male pet is castrated. For a spey it involves removing the ovaries and the uterus which enables her to come on heat or get pregnant. This is so important with cats as they are Polyoestrus, this means they can come on heat multiple times in a year, and will continue to come on ...heat until they become pregnant. This whole process can start from as young as 4 months old!! A female cat can give birth to anywhere from 1-8 kittens per litter..... You do the maths! Desex your pets people! Its the responsible thing to do. There are so many pets out there looking for homes, lets not create more! #ladole #furrandpurrvetnurse #vetnurse #adoptdontshop #kitten #kittensofinstagram #straykitten #desex

02.01.2022 This is so amazing!

01.01.2022 Our new fosters Possum and Chester. These poor boys are very timid and unsure of their surroundings, but after 2 weeks at home they are finally coming out to look around and receive pats! Slowly but surely they will be on their way to their furever homes
