25.01.2022 Animal Welfare League NSW INSPECTOR UPDATE Four years ago, Animal Welfare League NSW was made aware of an elderly gentleman who lived in Epping and needed some ...help with caring for his faithful companion. For years, Inspector Wakefield has been visiting the frail man, providing his dog with food, flea & worming treatment, and collaborating with a local vet clinic to arrange free veterinary treatment. While the man had serious health concerns, Animal Welfare League NSW was sad to hear of his passing. Keeping true to his promise, Inspector Wakefield kept his word and collected the man's dog and brought him into the care of the AWL NSW Kemps Creek shelter where he will be rehomed.

18.01.2022 Do you have a favourite cat photo? I have a lot of photos on my phone and a healthy number of them are cat photos. You all know how it is. The cats do something... funny or look cute and...click! Do you have a favourite one? This is mine. Gino was a scared little kitten when I grabbed him and brought him home from my work. It did not take long for him to settle in (a day actually) and now he is my constant companion. He likes to sleep cuddled up to me, keeps me company in the bathroom. He is always with me. When I get home from work I always get a special greeting. A big cuddle and a belly rub are expected. This was taken when he was letting me know it was time for a cuddle. I just love it. THE COST OF 2 COFFEES A WEEK TO HELP SAVE THE KILL LISTED DOGGIES Good evening Poun...d Patrollers with all these dogs currently in our care . We are having a hard time at the moment. We need help with funds. Most people don’t realize how much is involved in rescuing a dog. By the time we get their general vetwork done and have them wormed and flead, we are up for approx $300. Generally whilst under anesthetic they need their ears flushed or teeth removed and then we are up for another $300-$400. This is per dog and keeping in mind most dogs we save need some sort of training and kennel fees, we charge $200-$250 adoption fee so you work out the down fall. There’s no profit in rescue, we don’t earn a wage, we are volunteers who do what we do to save the dogs that need us. Unfortunately we are now in dire straits. We have lots of dogs in kennels which is costing us bucket loads. We have thousands of dollars owing in vet bills so we have no choice but to stop until all our bills are paid and all our dogs are out of kennels. What we are asking is not much. We need each of our followers to donate the cost of 2 coffees a week. We also ask that every dog we post that you please share! You never know it could be your share that finds that dog a home. 15.01.2022 PLEASE HELP CRUMPET: This dear little 5 month old cat was taken into a Sydney Vet Clinic ytd, after he was found in the middle of a road. It appeared he had bee...n hit by a car. He was disorientated, walking in circles, blood from his left ear and some gurgling sounds. One of our followers asked us if we could help "Crumpet" and take him on. He was given pain relief overnight and he was collected this morning. Due to the sounds in the upper airways, it was decided to take him straight to emergency at Animal Referral Hospital Homebush. He was admitted straight away and a myriad of tests have already been started for this gorgeous kitten, including bloods and x-rays. His initial 24 hours will cost $1,900. She’s only about a year old now and came to us very sick with cat flu and with ...three way too tiny newborn kittens. Despite all our efforts, the kittens didn’t make it, but on a more positive note, Angel is now well and ready for her forever home. 07.01.2022 Our Russian Blue boy (Jagger) is now up for foster care. We were correct in the diagnosis when we saw him at the vet and he is looking 1000% times better. Biops...y has shown that the lips/mouth are not cancer and are a rodent ulcer. It is very treatable and manageable. 03.01.2022 I saw this photo of a pound cat in need and my heart instantly fell for him. He is sad and wounded from having a hard life on the street. You always have to wo...nder how he came to be where he is now...Was he adandoned? A victim of an unwanted litter? Given away for free and disregarded as easily as he came? Who knows, all we do know is he will never feel as bad as he does now ever again. He will be coming into care and will be given the time, attention, vet treatment and love that he needs. Who has a good name for this sweet-heart? Something brilliant and original to show off how much of a surviver he is.

02.01.2022 If you need a reminder about why parliamentary representation for animals is so important read on... Last night our MP Emma Hurst passed an amendment so NSW law... now recognises the link between animal abuse and domestic violence. What does this mean? Animal abuse will now be formally recognised as a form of domestic violence, and animals will be included on Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders. This is a huge win, but there is still more to be done. We will keep fighting for more changes to the law that both protect the rights of animals and recognise their sentience. Our MP Emma Hurst, 'We need laws which recognise animals as living, sentient beings instead of mere ‘property’. I support the recommendation by Domestic Violence NSW that the definition of ‘persons’ in domestic violence legislation should include animals. The fact that animals are considered property under the law is an anomaly. Nobody considers their cat or dog as a piece of property- as nothing more than a table or chair, they are members of the family, and our legislation should reflect that. The Animal Justice Party is committed to working toward long term domestic violence reform. With my tougher penalties legislation now being debated in Parliament, I’m certain we’ll have even more success in this space to share with you soon!

01.01.2022 HELLO, IT'S JD HERE!! I AM NOW READY FOR MY FUREVER HOME!! Do you remember me from last month? I was left in the pound at 12 years of age - abandoned by t...he family I thought loved me but Rescue Hub stepped in to save me. They found me a loving foster home with a beautiful mum who has being caring for me since I left the pound but I can only stay here until Christmas time so I am on the lookout for a new home. I am an older gentleman (I'll be 13 next February) who is looking for a quiet and loving home to live out my days. I only need a short walk each day and I am happy to lay by your feet, and keep you company. I havd had some lumps and bumps removed but the vet has given me the "all clear" so now I just need to find my forever home to live out my twilight years. A long term foster home is ok too and Rescue Hub will look after me financially if you can give me the love and care I need. Overall for my age, I am in good health and all my vital organs are in good working order! I am partly deaf but will follow commands. I will need to be the only pet, and can walk past other dogs fairly well, but I definitely will need a new home with no other pets. Is there anyone out there that can offer a 12 year old gentleman like me my furever home? Please share for me so my new family can find me! This poor poor dog has been sitting at Bankstown Pound in Sydney w...ith absolutely no exposure, no one has taken the time to write a nice profile about him, take some nice photos of him and help him find a home. Muss is living in a concrete kennel and absolutely miserable. All the other dogs at the pound have been adopted except him and another girl who I will also be advertising. Rockys supporters please we must help Muss, we have helped so many babies in need off death row before. Muss needs us !!!!!! Let’s get this boy out of the pound, he has now become urgent !!!! He’s been there too long and not his fault with no one helping him. Muss is young, he is playful, he loves to play fetch and loves balls. Muss will need some training with walking on a lead but being locked up in a pound doesn’t help and for so long!! He will be your best mate, he adores people and has become so sad. Muss will need to be an only dog in the home, and lap up the attention all to himself. This beautiful boy is now available for adoption.
