15.01.2022 The Rangers team were delighted to be invited along to the NSW DPI Fisheries Research Centre in Port Stephens. Here we learnt about the processes involved in collecting, growing and replanting Posidonia australis, which is a species of seagrass which is endangered in Botany Bay. We had a site visit to where they have put in a new environmentally friendly mooring and have replanted some of the seagrass. We also looked at the collection spot where community members can deposit ...collected fragments of seagrass. The day was very helpful as we gathered some great information in how we could form our own facility here to restore the seagrass in the bay. While we were there we had the opportunity to observe some work the scientists are doing on Sydney Rock Oysters. They are working on rebuilding the reefs and improving the resilience against natural weather events and pollution of the oysters. This work is really Important to us as Sydney Rock Oysters are now extinct in Botany Bay and it would be great for the health of the bay to be able to bring them back. Thanks to the team at the NSW DPI research centre for having us along for the day. We’d like to give a special thanks to Adrianna, Kim and Laura from UNSW for the great opportunity

We are working with local business owners, Sydney Water and NBN contractors to repair the leak as soon as possible. As a precaution we’ve closed the beach until further notice. UPDATE 13/9/19 5:20PM: Sewage leak has now been repaired and cleanup is underway. Beach likely to reopen on Saturday morning for swimming. See more

03.01.2022 Discussing the devastating effect a cruise ship terminal would have on cultural fishing at Yarra Bay with Robert Cooley from @gamayrangers. The Autumn months ar...e mullet fishing season at La Perouse, and the local Aboriginal community have been fishing there providing food for the community for centuries. We must not allow the NSW Government to destroy this important cultural tradition by building a cruise terminal right where they fish. See more
