24.01.2022 One of the few industry practitioners in the conference.

24.01.2022 GCS together with The RIX Group recently completed a rockfall protection solution for a school in Brisbane. 5.0m to 6.3m high rock cuts were in close proximity to the playground and it was decided to protect the rock cutting with rockfall netting. Should rock dislodgements occur, the rockfall netting guides the rock to the base of the slope in a safe controlled manner.

22.01.2022 Geoinventions completes another successful design for a large Stone Strong wall at Seventeen Mile Rocks. The Stone Strong walls were designed as a mass gravity structure and had to accomodate 20kPa live loads for the widening of the Seventeen Mile Rocks road. A great installation by Concrib and Doval Constructions. Photos courtesy of Doval Constructions.

22.01.2022 The project involved upgrading Chambers Flat Rd from Entrance Street to School Road into a four lane Urban Arterial Road. Logan City Council requested BMD to provide an economical, constructible and efficient detailed design in accordance with the councils project requirements and specifications. Geoinventions were engaged by Empower Engineers and BMD to provide an alternative pavement design option for pavements constructed over soft subgrades (CBRs of 2% and 3%). This was... based on Geoinventions extensive experience with this application and having assisted DTMR with the development of the MRTS 58 specification for subgrade reinforcement using pavement geosynthetics. The alternative pavement design incorporated the RSi woven geosynthetic reinforcement which was selected as the preferred method of construction as it provided significant cost savings on the subbase materials by reducing this layer thickness by approximately 20%. Rsi woven geosynthetic was also placed on the soft subgrades below the culvert extensions to minimize differential settlements between the culvert and the new road embankments. #geotechnical #softsubgrade #subgradereinforcement #lowCBR #MirafiRSi380 #wovengeotextile See more

20.01.2022 DTMR and Geoinventions will be presenting a joint technical paper titled Design and Remediation of the Mt. Morgan Range Section of the Burnett Highway following Cyclone Oswald. The paper will be presented at the 27th ARRB Conference 2016 which will be held in Melbourne between the 16th and 18th of November 2016. A 2.3km long section of Mt. Morgan Range area of the Burnett Highway located 20 km south west of Rockhampton between chainages 7.6km and 9.9km was severely damaged... in the Ex Tropical Cyclone Oswald declared event between 24th and 27th January 2013. A total of 40 failures were recorded at the site. The failures consisted of 10 major failures on the down-slope fill side, 12 minor failures on the down-slope fill side and 18 failures on the up-slope cut side. Steep batters, poor compaction and excessive pore pressure development due to high levels of saturation of the materials were considered to be the major factors that may have triggered the failures. The technical paper covers the remediation methods adopted and below are some images a reinforced soil structure designed by Geoinventions for the down-slope fill side. We look forward to seeing you at this exciting Conference. #geoinventions #27th ARRB Conference #Mt Morgan Range #Reinforced Soil Structures #road stabilisation

20.01.2022 Geoinventions were appointed by Concrib to design a Geogrid Reinforced Stone Strong Retaining Wall to a height of 4.5m. Where the walls reduced in height, a mass gravity wall was adopted. Referencing the soil profile from extensive borehole investigations, a layer of loose clayey silty sand up to 3.8m deep was encountered. This necessitated a need for ground improvement which consisted of a reinforced fill mattress. The total wall area was approx 175 m2.

17.01.2022 Geoinventions Consulting Services (GCS) were engaged by Concrib Pty Ltd to design a 7.4m high Crib wall which was to support a large road reserve at Varsity Heights on the southern Gold Coast. Geotechnical investigations revealed a 3.5m deep layer of soft clay overlaying competent Argilite material and the original design done by others consisted of 450 dia. bored piles along the length of the wall. GCS with some innovative thinking, offered a hybrid-crib/geogrid reinforced ...soil wall design which was to be constructed on some foundation improvement. The foundation improvement was achieved by a geotextile wrapped rock mattress block beneath the crib section as well as a 750mm deep rock-mattress reinforced at the base with geogrid installed in the reinforced soil zone. The main challenges in the design were the improvement of the foundation, wall height and the long term performance of the wall. See more

05.01.2022 Geoinventions were engaged by BMD Constructions to optimize the pavement design for the site access road at the Combabula Gas Processing Facility owned by Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG). One of the major geotechnical risk is the potential large deformation of the pavement due to presence of reactive clay. GCS reviewed the geotechnical information provided by the client and conducted additional site investigations with the presence of a qualified Geotechnical Engineer. Based on... the additional and existing investigations, GCS reinterpreted the information to establish the longitudinal soil profiles, CBR long section profiles and Atterberg Limit charts. This clearly demonstrated that the subgrade strength interpreted by the principal pavement designer was conservative. GCS characterized the subgrade into four categories based on CBR strengths. GCS were able to offer a cost effective alternative pavement design based on the four categories and through the management of won insitu materials, resulted in significant cost savings for our client. 01.01.2022 Detention basins are storm water management structures that provide general flood protection and can also control extreme floods such as a 1 in 100-year storm event. The basins are typically built during the construction of new land development projects including residential subdivisions or shopping centres. The ponds help manage the excess runoff generated by newly constructed impervious surfaces such as roads, parking lots and rooftops. A detention basin functions by allo...wing large flows of water to enter but limits the outflow by having a small opening at the lowest point of the structure. The size of this opening is determined by the capacity of underground and downstream culverts and washes to handle the release of the contained water. Geoinventions assisted the principal consultants Cardno (Rockhampton) with the design of the gabion retaining walls. See more
