19.01.2022 Long story alert! Today I launched my new Facebook and Instagram page Grumpy Seagull. It's primarily a place to sell my beach art but I'd love for people just to have an occasional browse too. As most of you know I already have a FB artist page and a real website also. But I find that things get a bit jumbled when my paintings tend to be about issues and causes I feel strongly about, and then there's the bread and butter and simply fun stuff which couldn't be more different.... May not seem too complicated to you but to me it is. I stopped painting pictures of the beaches, sea and Islands because my heart’s not in it, or rather my heart is more often elsewhere. Unfortunately those are the paintings that have sold most frequently, and kept my art practice going. From here on I only intend to paint what's important to me (the important things that don't get me accepted into art awards anymore!). And in between that and public art submissions there will be time for my beach junk art, Grumpy Seagull... which hopefully will provide me with some coin to get by. I don't like admitting that the past year has been pretty disastrous for me. No public art commissions, no exhibition acceptances and no major painting sales so I really need to pull my finger out. So do me a favour and pop in to Grumpy Seagull every so often. And suggest it to your friends if they are looking for unique gifts with a local flavour. I'll be forever thankful x See more

09.01.2022 'Stolen Boat' 67 x 61 cm, acrylic on board, framed in old recycled window and ready to hang. On a sunny day in 2013, a Sri Lankan fishing boat quietly putted into Champion Bay with 66 passengers (men, women and children) onboard. They had completed a 44 day sea-crossing, on their way to NZ, but had a problem with their prop that required attention. All onboard were quickly detained, some were ‘screened out’ and returned to Sri Lanka within the week, the rest detained as ‘illegal asylum seekers’. Their beautiful boat has been acquired by the Museum of WA. There were no people smugglers involved, the boat was owned by the travellers and well equipped for their long journey to New Zealand. https://www.roseholdaway.com/paintings.htm
