25.01.2022 Hey everyone, could you please bring your kick shields to class tonight?

24.01.2022 HAPPY NEW KARATE YEAR! Wishing all of our GKR family close and far the very best for 2021 and that the coming year brings us more good things than what we... expected and less time away from the Dojo and the true friends we make there. A sincere thank you to all of our dedicated students, their supportive families and our outstanding volunteer instructors who made every class a win for us as a club in 2020. My gratitude is beyond measure for how much everyone pulled together when we really needed each other during the challenging year that it was for GKR. See you in the Dojo from this Monday the 4th onwards as your Sensei will be missing you as much as you are missing them too. Yours with much respect, Andrew Howell Regional Manager/Senior Instructor See more

22.01.2022 Good afternoon R10 Students and Parents, A recent press release went out this morning regarding some new restrictions within the Brisbane area. These restrictio...ns refer to Gatherings in private homes and public spaces, however these limits do not apply to businesses operating under a COVID Safe Plan. GKR operates under a Covid safe plan and is able to continue to operate as normal. To continue to assist us to operate within our Covid Plan a reminder of the following:- 1. Keep social distancing of 1.5m 2. If you suspect you have any symptoms stay home and get tested. 3. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water or use hand sanitizer frequently. 4. Observe all dojo rules regarding safe training practices. We appreciate your continued support that allows us to keep training and stay safe. Regards Sensei Kelvin

20.01.2022 Reminder there is no class at Loganlea tonight. Feel free to head along to one of the other dojos so you don't miss training

20.01.2022 Don't forget today is Wednesday and the Loganlea class is going to be on tonight with lots of fun and learning. See you there!

20.01.2022 Basics, or Kihon (Fundamentals) are the building blocks for all future karate. Just as a building needs a good foundation to stand the test of time, so does your karate. NEVER think you don't need to refine your kihon.

18.01.2022 Congratulations to Jeff for winning a silver medal in his kata division and a gold medal in kumite at today's tournament. Well done Jeff and many more medals as you continue your karate journey. Glad I could share this experience with you.

17.01.2022 Today is #WorldAnimalDay - a day to recognise and improve welfare standards for animals around the globe. The influence of animals in martial arts can be trace...d back many centuries. Shihan Anthony Ryan’s major passion in Karate has been studying the 5 major animal styles of the Fujian Province (the area that highly influenced the development of karate) and showing how they are still highly relevant to all Karate-ka today. Despite their differences, each animal can be successful against another, essentially giving us 5 different ways to attack and defend. In this short video, Shihan Anthony demonstrates 21 different ways to execute a leading hand straight punch based on the 5 animal styles. These five animal styles are dragon, tiger, white crane, serpent, and leopard. Each style is briefly characterised below... Dragon Fighting spirit, wisdom and flexibility Tiger Courage, tenacity and power Crane Balance, elegance and patience Serpent Precision, deception and rhythm Leopard Speed, agility and coordination

17.01.2022 Have you ever wondered what 100 kata in under 4 minutes looks like? Wonder no longer! Kudos again to our challengers!

17.01.2022 Thanks to Sensei Jess from GKR Karate Region 22 Christchurch, New Zealand for these wise words. Share your Sensei Love in the comments. What does a Sensei d...o? My Sensei doesn’t just teach me karate. My Sensei is my role model. Someone who has already walked the path I want to go. My Sensei is my motivator. They inspire me to push to points I never thought I could reach. My Sensei is my coach. They help me through the toughest times in my journey. My Sensei is my drill sergeant. They keep me in line, on task to achieve my goals. My Sensei is my biggest fan. They believe in me when I struggle to believe in myself. My Sensei teaches me integrity, discipline, and the highest standards of personal character. My Sensei teaches me to fail, and they teach me to stand back up again, to never give up. My Sensei teaches me to show respect and courtesy to all who walk this earth. My Sensei teaches me to be calm and in control, responsible always for my behaviour. My Sensei teaches me to be faithful and sincere in all that I do. My Sensei doesn’t just teach me karate. My Sensei prepares me for life.

If you don't... have much space at home to train, don't worry - Shihan says, "I've home-trained regularly for many years so I'm used to training in a confined area. I'm excited to be sharing some of my regular drills with everyone, and I hope you’ll find the class both exciting and useful for your own home-training." Don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to train with one of our foremost Instructors this Sunday. Register now at onlinedojo.gkrkarate.com/shihan-anthony-ryan-seminar A replay of the session will be made available to all participants soon after the event.

12.01.2022 Great News !!! This morning our Premier announced that the lock down for the Greater Brisbane area will end at 6pm tonight with some restrictions continuing unt...il January 22nd. This means that our classes will resume on Tuesday 12th January, operating under our COVID Safe Plan that we have had in place since the beginning of lock down! This easing comes with a mandate for the next 10 days stating that a mask needs to carried at all times and worn when out in public. What does this mean for our Dojo's:- We will require everyone (Sensei's and Spectators included) to wear a mask before and after class. You can remove your mask whilst training if you want to. Children under 12 years and people affected by a medical condition or disability are exempt. Standing Bow, No Kick Shield/Focus Mitt work, No Partner work, No Sparring and No Kiai's. We are still operating under our COVID Plan which means everybody needs to scan our Contact Tracing QR code when signing in and fill in the required details. This is a must with no exceptions as it required by law for us to operate. Continue to Sanitize as often as needed and keep safe Social distancing. If you are displaying any symptoms to please stay home and get tested as soon as possible As more details come to hand we will update you. See you back in the Dojo !! If you have any questions or queries please contact Kelvin Trembath on 0450 011 620.

11.01.2022 We had a great class last night. We had 17 students who were divided into three groups, kihon for the white belts and kata practice for the two groups of coloured belts. The kata practice included some COVID safe bunkai partner work. A short kumite session followed that and we finished off with a game of 'ships ahoy'. It was a great high energy night. I loved it and hope you all did too. Next week is our final class for the year so stay tuned for more information.

We truly appreciate all of their countless sacrifices and endless support as our Mums are our first and lifelong Sensei. See more

07.01.2022 We had a great class last night. Being the first class back we needed to brush up on some kihon (fundamentals) and get rid of some cob webs. We also spent some time brushing up our kata. We had two new students who totally smashed it. Thank you to the students who stepped up to help our new comers. We all need to remember what it is like to be a beginner. In essence we are all still beginners as we carry on with our karate journey. Well done everyone and we look forward to a great year helping you with your karate goals.

07.01.2022 Happy International Karate Day. From Sensei Jesse, "On October 25th in 1936, the senior Karate masters in Okinawa held a meeting to decide the future of Karate. Originally, the art was known as Toudi ( lit. Chinese Hand) and taught in secrecy. But on this day, it was decided to officially make it a Japanese art.... The result was a name change ( Karate, "Empty Hand"), adopting the Judo belt system (kyu/dan), creating new styles (-ryu), implementing titles (hanshi, kyoshi, shihan etc.) and introducing a competition format. If it wasn’t for this decision, maybe Karate wouldn’t exist today. That's why Oct 25 is celebrated as "World Karate Day" around the world."

04.01.2022 Tell us in one word what Karate has helped you improve #gkrkarate
