Yesterday was a magnificent day for Gothic Zen as we got to work with a respected #GoldCoast accountant who also happens to be a great abstract painter. This creative genuis (who has chosen to remain nameless for now) has been hand-selected to appear in the well-known Art/Edit magazine. Her artworks will be on display for all to admire, which surely must feel a world away fro...m the taxation world she usually works in. Being able to get her on-screen ready with imagery is a joy we will remember. 19.01.2022 SCREENWRITING TIP Writing a screenplay? Awesome! We applaud your vision and commitment, because we know it's an arduous journey. But, before you write one more word, have you considered - Who is your target audience? People write for different reasons. And although it's healthy and rewarding to write for your own pleasure, imagine how gratifying it would be to write for an audience who appreciates your work.... In other words, if you want people to read your screenplay and connect with your vision, then you need to know who your target audience is and cater to their likes, wants, desires and psychological quirks. Research is valuable here and you may need to Google, watch videos, read books and talk to specific types of people to get a grasp of what connects with your target audience (as opposed to what you assume they connect with). Write with your target audience in mind and your screenwriting will instantly improve. Last night, the government showed a lack of respect and faith in the film, television, theatre, dance, visual arts and events sectors by making crew, performers and freelancers in these areas ineligible for COVID-19 relief payments. This puts many artists - the very people that are being turned to for relief during these tim...es - in an unnecessarily stressful and less supported position than many others at this time. For those of you who don't know, both of us, Goran and Clare, are successful published authors - but in immensely different genres. Goran writes psychological fiction with the intention of encouraging his readers to expand their mindset. We're sure this will be no surprise to his screenwriting students. Clare draws upon her health background and writes ...kid's nutrition books. The landscape of filmmaking is changing constantly and although we've worked with many amazing clients who received funding from Screen Australia and other GOVERNMENT FUNDED (actually from our pockets, mine and yours) agencies, I think it's time to take a good hard look at the results. We meet many talented people in the industry whose concepts and abilities have potential to be lucrative and conversation starters; however, they don't seem to even... get a look in because they don't meet some of the funding criteria, such as sexual identity or other preferences etc.. I can't help but feel that there are elements of nepotism in this industry this is how it reveals itself sometimes. 15.01.2022 Gothic Zen Studios is proud to have been selected to participate in the Gold Coast City Council's study into independent screen production on the Gold Coast. All voices in the industry are valid and we thank the people behind the scenes. Special thanks to Dr Mark Ryan from QUT who interviewed Goran yesterday afternoon and made the experience positive and memorable. Also credit to Josh Hale from Hale Storm Productions, Nicole Leo, Patrick Ryan and the input from some of the fi...lmmaking and acting students at NYFA. The conversation raised many interesting factors regarding the health and direction of the sector, and where councils can improve to meet the growing diversity of the industry and keep the Gold Coast a key player for film production. Participating reminded us of all the wonderful clients we've had, those who seek us out to help them on their creative journey. It also reminded us of the endless list of personal creative goals we have ourselves. Although clients hire us for various reasons, over the years we've seen an increase in more sophisticated and creative expression. 10.01.2022 'Patience is a virtue', but it's also a necessity when you're in film. Working on videos for this corporate giant was super satisfying; but, it required a bunch of patience in the editing suite. Commissioned to translate 3x US originals for the Australian market, the issue was that we only only had access to an old SD motion graphics logo that looked beyond tired. Obviously we couldn't use it, so we committed to hours of After Effects work to recreate it frame by frame so it ...looked practically identical in every way. As a viewer, their moving logo isn't something you pay attention to (even in their more involved videos, unlike this one)... but that's because it's supposed to look effortless. Today he is reconsidering the Protagonist's character arc, which he says isn't transforming enough and lacks audience empathy. 07.01.2022 Our hearts go out to all the people and stores in Venice, Italy affected by the recent floods. It was only 4 1/2 years ago that we were there, excitedly standing in this very gluten-free store. To us, it was a little slice of heaven amongst heaven, as it meant we could stock up on supplies before moving onto our next destination. We were so impressed we even ended up doing a promo video for them. This video, taken by the owners, was a couple of days ago and now the store is a complete write-off. So sad

The lyrics are dreary, many uninviting visuals (did you see some of the outfit choices!?), and there's a bunch of corny lines too. Basically, it's got a bad-dad-joke-vibe throughout. Just like in other fictional films where political and historical themes are the offenders.
