15.01.2022 The Psalms is a wonderful book to meditate and understand particularly in the first Psalm as it opens up the themes of the whole book, in fact the whole of the bible story. It tackles the fundamental question: How can I be happy? Psalm 1 1 Blessed is the one... who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither whatever they do prospers. 4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. 6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction. (NIV Bible)

13.01.2022 Managing congregational anxiety in the post COVID-19 reboot We are addressing how we care for and lead our congregations on the way back. We are seeing states q...uickly move through the different stages of opening up. How do we handle the fear of change, and navigate the decisions of starting to meet again. How do we help our members flourish in community while keeping a physical distance? How can we come through this stronger? What about the feelings that they and we are experiencing, and how can we support them through the next few months? The best advice for Australian churches is still to expect a protracted period with congregations limited to 100 people, with one person per four square metres, for many Churches, this necessitates change, with congregations to be divided or planted. Jenny Brown heads The Family Systems Practice, is an experienced family systems therapist and the author of Growing Yourself Up. Nigel Fortescue is the senior minister of Christ Church St Ives. 11.01.2022 NEWMARCH HOUSE PRAYER (post from Sydney Anglicans) O Lord, we grieve and lament with the loss of residents of Newmarch House to the Corona Virus. Each one is precious and known to you. Please be with the families and comfort those who have lost their loved ones and the residents and staff who are dealing with the devastating impact of this virus.... We give thanks for the dedicated and compassionate team of staff who continue to provide care, love and support to the residents, while working under very challenging conditions. We give thanks for providing a full complement of staff and for the support of the NSW and Commonwealth governments, the expertise of the Nepean Hospital, and Baptist Care as we all work together to ensure residents receive the best medical care possible. We pray for the chaplaincy teams and counselors that they will be given wisdom to support people through this time. Please let your light shine in the darkness and let your love be known to all. Amen. Thank you Lower Mountains Anglican Parish for sharing this prayer.

07.01.2022 Do black lives matter? Of course! So surely a movement called Black Lives Matter (BLM) would be a force for good, wouldnt it? African Americans and in our context, Aboriginal Australians, have no doubt suffered historic injustices and even today have higher rates of incarceration and poverty as well as lower average life expectancy. I can understand why Aboriginal Australians may feel as if they are not valued and how a movement like BLM would be appealing... Even for Christians... https://ap.org.au/2020/07/28/black-lives-matter-dont-they/

02.01.2022 As the school term restarts, join us in prayer for our teachers, students and parents Heavenly Father, You are worthy of all praise as the one who created all things, sustains all things and is moving all things towards the glorious conclusion you have planned for them. We thank you especially for sending your Son, that through him we have forgiveness and life and hope. Thank you for your wonderful plan of redemption and for fellowship we now have with you through your Son a...nd in your Spirit. Father, our world is broken and we are more aware of that than ever as a result of this COVID pandemic. We long for that day when every tear will be wiped away, when death will be no more, and there will be no more grief or pain. But we know we are not there yet and we pray that you might enable us to live as your light in the midst of this darkness, testifying to your continued goodness and the hope that has been secured for all your people through the death and resurrection of Jesus. We pray that you might sustain us in all that you have given us to do in this moment. Especially we pray for those involved in education and training. As our schools seek to continue their important work in stressful and difficult circumstances, would you please keep teachers and students safe, and help them to care for each other. We pray for those who are facing critical points in their education, particularly those preparing for their final exams and assessments towards the HSC, and ask for a diligence in study that is surrounded at every point by a calm confidence in you and your provision. We pray for those training for Christian ministry in this context. Please enable them to grow in faith and love and in the knowledge of your word. May they be shaped by you in ways which will prepare them well for what lies ahead on the other side of this pandemic. Would you pour out your Spirit and enable a new season of evangelism, Christian growth and healthy church life to emerge in the months ahead. Father, all our hope is in you. We trust your promises and look forward to the day to come when the Lord Jesus will return to bring all your purposes to their fulfilment. It is in his name that we pray. Amen Thanks to Dr Mark Thompson from Moore Theological College for sharing this prayer. https://sydneyanglicans.net/covid19prayers#foreducation
