25.01.2022 Recently acquired : An Original one owner 1960 Framus Star Bass. ( Made in Germany ), These instruments made famous by Bill Wyman of the Rolling Stones. This remarkable bass had not been played since approximately 1964. Along with the information offered by the seller, another indication of this time period was that due to these instruments requiring neck adjustments or neck angle correction/professional resets, The owner had placed a penny and a half penny under each end of... the bridge in an effort to raise the string height away form touching the strings. That didn't actually assist playability and was most likely the cause of the bass being placed into early retirement and much like the time capsule, saving the instrument in fantastic condition and revived again in 2020. Just an added not on the old Pennies and halfpennies, the halfpennies dates at 1951 and 1961 and the two Pennies at 1964, still bright and coppery and in almost uncirculated condition. I have given the bass a full service and neck reset, made all the adjustments and detailed where necessary. Prior to even making it onto the Great Guitars website, it has already been SOLD but I wanted to still be able to share photos and the story of this fantastic original vintage instrument. 23.01.2022 1964 GOLDENTONE Bassmaster 20... Made in Australia RM (Rose Morris) Bassmaster 20 combo amplifier. Model 1755 Collectable. INFORMATION: This is a single Rola speaker combo amplifier RARELY FOUND. Rose Morris show this model in the 1963/64 catalogue and the earliest date found so far is June of 1964. The gold cabinet and the gold straight pattern grill cloth mark it as probably the second or third version. This amp was manufactured around the 18th September 1964 ( Date on the speaker choke) Bassmasters are always better as guitar amps. SPECIFICATIONS: These amps used 6DQ6A valves, giving them a unique tone. These valves were commonly available in Australia than valves used in imported amps as they were used in black and white tv sets. Rola supplied the single 12" speaker. They were specially made for bass use and are 12" diameter and 7.5" deep. Almost twice the depth of a 12P and weighed around 4Kg. 23.01.2022 I haven't posted anything for several months now due to the incredible amount of guitar service and restoration work which has come in during the 'not so mysterious' world wide viral disease. First, I'd like to wish everyone well, good health and staying positive . Enjoying the break time on all things you enjoy....which of course includes catching up on playing as much guitar as you can. Second, I'd really like to thank all those who have made contact with me for guitar te...ch requirements, service , repairs, restorations and trading, selling. The amount has been surprising and inspiring to know there are so many people who have been able to rejuvenate the interest in having time to play guitar again and getting their gear in order. 12.01.2022 1961 Vintage HOFNER CLUB 60 Cherry burst finish 2 Diamond logo pickups Hollowbody guitar... This guitar is from my own collection and where my interest began with Hofner guitars, basses and many years of restoration work for the famous instrument maker. Hofner ~ Germany. I have been the caretaker of this particular guitar for over 25 years. A terrific original example and fresh vibrant colour in the guitar that is now just approaching 60 years old. The top shows typical age checking. The back and sides are in really very nice clean and shiny order. The neck angle is correct, bright nickel finish to the hardware parts , pickups etc. The neck is straight, ebony fingerboard and fancy pearl inlays all in great order. Note that one tuner head , 'B' position had been cracked and reglued prior to my purchasing this guitar. Original German made hard case VGC A rare model, rarely seen in such great condition and even rarer to have one in the original German made hardcase. Great condition, great playing condition. Transparent cherry finish. Pearl dot fingerboard inlays. Medium thick neck profile. Straight medium thick profile neck Tun-o-matic bridge Used but well cared for, minor marks, no chips or knocks. Some slight lacquer checking on the top under close inspection, not easily seen. and a little lacquer line along the fingerboard edge. I've been giving this a good run testing through vintage Fender and Mesa amps and it sounds really good, it's hard to put down and get back to work. I'm doing my best Angus tribute riffs. 06.01.2022 1959 HOFNER Archtop Jazz guitar Model 462 3 pick-up version UPCOMING RESTORATION REBUILD PROJECT. Occasionally a job will come along that you know you just HAVE to do. This dismantled project has most likely been sitting around in boxes and sheds for decades, being shipped from pillar to post and stored, ignored. It is a massive job for an experienced guitar-tech or luthier let alone some one who may have originally thought this would be a terrific project to do as a hobby o...ver the holidays. There is indeed a great deal of work to be done and I expect this project to be completed over the coming 6-8 months. Originally this RARE 3 WHITE pick-up 1959 jazz guitar was an ornate. high-end, flame maple back and sides with spruce top, finished in a natural clear gloss finish. Unfortunately the work done previously in dismantling and sanding has slightly damaged the flame maple in some areas. This means the guitar will need to be done in a solid colour rather than a clear gloss. I have decided on Black nitrocellulose lacquer with clear nitro top coat. Other work to be done, replace pearl celluloid fingerboard markers. Full re-fret. Neck reset. Replicate an original style celluloid faceplate with tortoise and cream pearl celluloid material. Make replica pick-up bases with adjustable thumb-wheels as original style. Make replica clear guard with gold edge engraving and Hofner signature logo. Full assembly and set-up will then make this special and beautiful instrument very much a playable and desirable playing instrument for many decades to come. I intend this guitar to be a stunner ! I look forward to showing the before, during and completed photos for all interested sometime in the latter part of 2020. I am posting the original 1959 Hofner photo that displays this 3 pick-up model 462 along with a few photos of how I received this guitar as a collection of bits.

05.01.2022 Many months ago, I posted a few photos of a restoration project that had come my way .I was eager to get into this major job, a rare 1959 German made Hofner triple pickup Jazz guitar , model 462 SE3. But what a task in front of me. The project required just about every skill needed The box of parts ( and many missing parts ) that I started with was something that required significant planning. The body and neck was sanded back, headstock reshaped, no frets and I had no id...ea of how the wiring, switching and pickups were originally intended to have been. I'm proud and pleased with the result and hope to have many more photo's of the completed project up on the GreatGuitars.com.au website in the near future. The photo's I am posting here today are one from the Hofner collectors and identification book which shows a version of this 462 model ( late 1950's) in natural finish. This range of models around that number would also have been made in black finish and some in a deep wine red colour. I've included a just few photos of the restoration progression and a few of the finished project. Not only is this instrument a fine and stunning guitar as a piece of guitar art, but it also now plays beautifully and sounds fantastic when amplified. It's back and ready to be played for another life time.

Mustangs aren't commonly seen about, especially of the vintage kind. If you haven't ever had the opportunity to play one I highly recommend searching through some youtube clips of Fender Mustangs and their fans, players and collectors. They are so much fun and very much worthwhile having one in the guitar arsenal. Playability and tone, Excellent. Originality, Mostly orig. New 'Genuine Fender bridge saddles just fitted. Full detail, pro set-up and adjustments. Original tuners, pickups, pots , guard, controls, trem assembly, all original. New Genuine Fender stainless steel Mustang trem arm. and of course as mentioned, a fresh long lasting pro refret. The guitar has had a previous life and being a great guitar it does show signs of having a genuine play history of gigging. Rear buckle rash and lacquer chipping and edge wear on the neck.
