20.01.2022 Wishing all my customers and followers a Merry Christmas and a happy and productive New Year. I haven't posted at all this year,, so sharing a short video of this years highlights

20.01.2022 Even in cooler climates there's something you can grow year round in your veggie garden. Some of my winter veggies included cabbage, buk choy, wonbuk, kale, spring onions and broccoli. You get a steady supply of greens by picking outer leaves through the cooler months and then big harvests in early spring, as you start removing whole plants to make way for spring-summer crops. A quick, simple and tasty way to prepare, is sautee onions in butter, garlic, lemon juice, salt and pepper, then tossed through your roughly chopped greens until wilted. @ Crookwell, New South Wales

20.01.2022 I'll be running another workshop at Goulburn community garden later this month. Please come along or share if you're interested in learning about wicking beds and how to build one. We'll also be discussing the best ways to keep your veggie garden soil happy and healthy.

19.01.2022 Harvested the last of this year's garlic and "thinned" some carrots. I would normally thin rows of carrots when they're smaller, but didn't get round to it, fortunately they've managed to make their own room. With garlic I harvest when there's 2-3 green leaves left at the top, removing any seed heads if they appear.

18.01.2022 These wicking beds were designed to meet the needs of a "growing" family, perfect for mum, dad and the kids. #grow_easy #wickingbed #raisedbeds #veggiegarden #familygarden #outdoorliving #backyardfarming #veggiegrowing #growfoodnotlawns #growyourownfood #urbanhorticulture #urbanagriculture #australianhardwood #treatedpine #veggiegrowing

16.01.2022 How cool is this "fasiation" on one of my Mizuna mustard plants. Fasiation describes an unusual growth form on plants, where the normally spherical growth point takes on a flattened or ribbon like shape @ Crookwell, New South Wales

15.01.2022 Last weekend I co-hosted a workshop @canberracityfarm. Despite the cold weather we had over 30 participants enjoying a detailed discussion and demonstration of all things wicking beds, as well as an in-depth look at soil fertility and biology and other important topics for successful backyard veggie growing. The questions and conversations flowed for 4 hours and concluded with a soup and pizza lunch prepared at the garden. 3 water-up wicking beds have now been installed alo...ngside 3 standard raised beds, garden members will be monitoring water use and other variables to further evaluate the benefits of wicking beds. A massive thankyou to all involved, with special mention to Bob @water_ups , Dan @revive_landscapes_living_walls , Chris @roogullifarm and Walter and Linda from Canberra city farm @ Homegrown Me and Canberra City Farm Community Kitchen See more

04.01.2022 Amazing what can be done with recycled materials, I absolutely love this and so does the customer. The timber was recovered from their previous deck and tin was salvaged from an old roof. 2.3m x 1m wicking bed @ Narrabundah
