25.01.2022 We just did our first socially-distant, limited-to-10-outdoor but IN PERSON drum circle in months. : : It felt amazing to play with these gorgeous humans - all of whom have learnt the different rhythmical parts in their own homes, over recent Zoom classes. Amazing to get together, put it all together, and make music! :... : They also bought me this amazing periodic table of elements puzzle! (...because we have been learning a drum solo phrase based on the periodic table of elements). I love it so much. 25.01.2022 Weve been making a Digital Winter Magic with Hands Heart & Feet this week. Needless to say, it is not possible for that beautiful festival to go ahead this year, however, that doesnt mean its not Winter in the Blue Mountains, & it certainly doesnt mean we cant create Magic. : : This week, dancers & drummers came together on Zoom for one last time, in full costume, performing together from home... As restrictions continue to lift, drummers got together yeste...rday at this beautiful lookout - & for some, this was the first time playing drums together in person. 20.01.2022 Yesterday I had the pleasure of teaching a womens drum circle, around a fire by a creek. There is just something about drumming outside, on the earth, with women. It felt so good and right and fun. Thank you so much to Sharon from #gangganggallery for hosting me on your stunningly beautiful land. And also to @ngairehoward for introducing us. : : For me, this was an absolutely wonderful first face-to-face workshop in over 2 months. 18.01.2022 DANCERS DIGITAL WINTER MAGIC! This project was proudly supported by Blue Mountains City Council. This spectacular and amazing Digital Community Dance Performance was created as a lockdown adaption. The beloved Winter Magic Festival that Hands Heart & Feet ordinarily would have been a part of could not go ahead, due to COVID-19, so... We all came to our final dance class in full costume, and dancers had the option to film their fabulous selves doing the choreography. Dancers were also given the option to go forth and choose an interesting location in which to film themselves. Check out the car wash, the river with a kangaroo, the camp fire, the service station, plus a truly delightful array of backyards and natural settings. Most of the dancers in this clip are local to the Blue Mountains and regularly dance at Hands Heart & Feet classes. However, we were also lucky enough to also have some dancers join from Sydney, Central Coast, Orange, and even one dancer in Germany! So great. A special shout out those dancers who participated in Zoom dance classes but arent in the clip - either by choice, or if you had technical challenges. You are totally there in spirit. SO much love and appreciation for EVERYBODY who was a part of our beautiful, creative community over lockdown. A new term of dance classes with Emily from Hands Heart & Feet will resume the first week of August - most likely in person, yaaay! Classes in Springwood & Katoomba. All welcome. 09.01.2022 Last week I was lucky enough to be invited to run some storytelling, drumming & dancing sessions at Katoomba Hospital on the Mental Health Ward. I met such wonderful people there. : : I particularly enjoyed the discussions after the storytelling, hearing responses and thoughts, being inspired by the wide diversity of experience and imagination. : ... : I was moved by the fact that music, movement and story were booked by the hospital for mental health purposes. One family set up a disco ball in their lounge room for dance class. A couple of folks have a glass of wine, as they do drum class. Kids sometimes do the classes in their PJs. For those who dont live in the Blue Mountains, its possible to do regular Hands Heart & Feet classes. Pets can be there. Theres a lot thats awesome about humans right now, and Im definitely appreciating the presence of each and every person in online classes. 07.01.2022 I bought a van! No small degree of chutzpah was required to complete this task. For me, this action required a certain amount of boldness and courage, as I continue to work not only as a Dance Teacher (a role Ive been doing and loving for so long now, it feels knitted into my bones), but increasingly, as a Drum Teacher as well (which feels more like a new jumper thats getting comfier and more beloved with time).
